The reaction of ethyl naphtho[2,1-b]thiophene-2-carboxylate 2 with hydrazine hydrate produced naphtho[2,1-b]thiophene-2-carbohydrazide 3 which upon treatment with various aromatic aldehydes produced Schiff bases i.e. N-(aryl-methylene) substitutednaphtho[2,1-b]thiophene-2carbohydrazides 4a-f which served as an excellent intermediate for the synthesis of titled compounds. more » ... yielded azetidinones 5a-f. The Structures of the newly synthesized compounds have been established by analytical and spectral studies. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated for antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant activities.
