Macromomycin, an inhibitor of the membrane function of tumor cells

Macromomycin, a proteinaceous antitumor antibiotic, binds to the membrane of tumor cells and thereby preferentially inhibits DNA synthesis. The cytotoxicity could be abolished by removal of macromomycin from the binding locus by a brief treatment with trypsin.
