Some kinds of 2-oxo-2H-chromen-6-yl 4-alkoxybenzoate derivatives (compounds 1-3) were prepared and their mesomorphic property and gelation ability were examined. Compounds 2-3 and 3-8 show gelation ability in hydrocarbon and alcoholic solvents and so on, while they are non-mesogenic. Compounds 1-3 and 1-8, on the other hand, exhibit both gelation and mesomorphic properties.
