In the preceding article' a brief description was given of the personal traits and public activities of Nassau W. Senior. The reader's attention was also directed to the unsatisfactory form of the author's works; and it was pointed out that the underlying causes of the low estimate of Senior as an economist could be traced to the fragmentary and anonymous character of his contributions. There are certain broad questions which the reader may expect us to face squarely: Do the materials contained in the Senior manuscripts constitute a distinct contribution to economic theory? What would have been the effect upon the stream of economic thought had they been published by the author himself ? What light, if any, do they throw upon questions pertaining to Senior's published material?
