Of the four active US space launch bases, the Wallops Flight Facility (WFF) works well for space exploration missions. The NASA and USAF are taking advantage of that fact to baseline WFF as the launch site for the inaugural launch of the Minotaur V for LADEE and the new Taurus II launch vehicle in support of International Space Station (ISS) resupply missions. WFF provides the necessary launch position and services that space launch vehicles require for reaching the moon and destinations

Wallops also has the advantage of a launch infrastructure that currently consists of two pads capable of space launch, while maintaining full range capabilities, thereby decreasing launch conflicts between missions. This paper identifies the benefits of using WFF as a strategic launch site for space exploration and makes a recommendation for its use in the next decade of NASA exploration missions.
