Numerical study was performed for the vortex breakdowns in cylindrical containers with top rotating lid. Computation was done for the parameter range where steady axisymmetric flows emerge. By varying the grid resolution and by using the Richardson extrapolation, resolution independent solutions are obtained and flow state diagram was numerically constructed. The value of critical Reynolds number for vortex breakdowns agrees within 1% on the average with the experiments by Escudier. Results are
more » ... compared also with the numerical study by Broils et al. for high Re, high aspect ratio cases. The comparison revealed deviation on some part of the bifurcation curves, however similar results are obtained on the topology of flow states for three breakdown bubbles. Solutions obtained in the present study might be useful as a benchmark solution with which newly developed numerical methods may be tested against.
