Female rats injected with Freund's complete adjuvant in the hind limb footpads had abnormal oestrous cycles characterized by prolonged leucocytic phases. This was observed within 2 days in some animals given adjuvant on the first day of di-oestrus. About one-fourth of the animals with abnormal cycles had the same number of continuous L-days as animals made pseudopregnant by electrical stimulation (11 to 16 days).
