We describe evidence supporting the view that the evolution of elliptical galaxies and spiral bulges was more complex and heterogeneous than formerly supposed. They appear to have prolonged, episodic star formation histories, and their dominant stellar populations can range in age from 1 to 15 Gyr.doi:10.1007/978-94-011-0752-5_34 fatcat:i7eh3japznfqpkxmaj2gsn2ndu
