A Simple Derivation of Jacobi's Four-Square Formula
1982
Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society
For each nonnegative integer n, r.j(n) counts number of solutions (11,12,13, X4) G Z4 of n = x\ + x\ + x\ + x\. Within the confines of elementary partition theory the author presents a simple derivation of Jacobi's formula for r±(ri).
