São Tiago: Peregrino na Sé do Porto

The cult of Saint James enjoyed great popularity in Portugal, as evidenced by the considerable number of Jacobean images that have survived today and are included in museum collections or are preserved in parish churches. In the present article, the history of the 16th century image of São Tiago Peregrino (Saint James the Pilgrim) from Porto Cathedral is reviewed. This exhibition took place at Porto Cathedral in December 2019, based on the theme of the mobility of images, which were subject to several transformations within the iconographic programs of Porto Cathedral, and between the Cathedral and the City. In this article, we aim to connect this 16th century image to the Jacobean cult in the religious epicenter of Porto, by following its migration over five centuries in the Cathedral´s space between chapels, altars and the current museum space
