A new alkaloid, stemona-lactam S, and a known alkaloid, tuberostemospiroline, were isolated from the roots of Stemona tuberosa LOUR. (Stemonaceae). Their structures and absolute stereochemistry were established by X-ray crystallography and vibrational circular dichroism. The roots of Stemona japonica (BLUME) MIQ., S. tuberosa LOUR., and S. sessilifolia (MIQ.)
