Cost-effective programmes for the prevention of disabilities in leprosy require active involvement of the patients and their families as well as an integrated team approach. This paper presents the views and recommendations of a group of 35 experienced leprologists who met at a workshop, reviewed the current scenario and worked out specific objectives, strategies and the reorganization required in the existing infrastructure.
