The article analyses the careers and the political and intellectual contributions of two Portuguese educators -Rui Grácio and Rogério Fernandes -to teaching, research and democratic construction. At first, we consider their ideas and actions regarding teacher's training. Following, we explore the conceptions about the role of educational history in Portuguese historical interpretations. Finally, we identify the sources and themes that will result in a Luso-Brazilian educational history. We
