Artemisia extract was administered 1 h prior to the injection of compound 48/80. Artemisia was extracted from dried flowering tips of A. deserti using 80% ethanol. Subsequently, the systemic anaphylactic shock, histamine release, scratching behavior and vascular permeability induced by compound 48/80 were evaluated. The administration of Artemisia extract at 200 and 400 mg/kg doses suppressed the systemic anaphylactic shock induced by compound 48/80 in a dose-dependent manner. Overall, the Artemisia extract was able to effectively decrease systemic anaphylactic shock, histamine release, scratching behavior and vascular permeability induced by compound 48/80 in a dose-dependent manner.

Cryptocurrencies (or digital tokens, digital currencies, e.g., BTC, ETH, XRP, NEO) have been rapidly gaining ground in use, value, and understanding among the public, bringing astonishing profits to investors. Unlike other money and banking systems, most digital tokens do not require central authorities. Being decentralized poses significant challenges for credit rating. Most ICOs are currently not subject to government regulations, which makes a reliable credit rating system for ICO projects

We exploit natural-language processing techniques to analyze various aspects of 2,251 digital currencies to date, such as white paper content, founding teams, Github repositories, websites, etc. Supervised learning models are used to correlate the life span and the price change of cryptocurrencies with these features. For the best setting, the proposed system is able to identify scam ICO projects with 0.83 precision. We hope this work will help investors identify scam ICOs and attract more efforts in automatically evaluating and analyzing ICO projects.

Modified Newton-type methods for the NCP by using a class of one-parametric NCP-functions

Weisong Xie, Zijun Deng
2012 Journal of Inequalities and Applications
In this paper, we propose a new Newton-type method for solving the nonlinear complementarity problem (NCP) based on a class of one-parametric NCP-functions, where an approximate Newton direction can be obtained by solving a modified Newton equation in each iteration. The method is shown to be globally convergent without any additional assumption. To investigate the fast convergence of this class of methods, we propose a modified version of the proposed method and show the method is globally and

2018 Proceedings of the Twenty-Seventh International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence
Saliency detection is a fundamental yet challenging task in computer vision, aiming at highlighting the most visually distinctive objects in an image. We propose a novel recurrent residual refinement network (R^3Net) equipped with residual refinement blocks (RRBs) to more accurately detect salient regions of an input image. Our RRBs learn the residual between the intermediate saliency prediction and the ground truth by alternatively leveraging the low-level integrated features and the
more » ... integrated features of a fully convolutional network (FCN). While the low-level integrated features are capable of capturing more saliency details, the high-level integrated features can reduce non-salient regions in the intermediate prediction. Furthermore, the RRBs can obtain complementary saliency information of the intermediate prediction, and add the residual into the intermediate prediction to refine the saliency maps. We evaluate the proposed R^3Net on five widely-used saliency detection benchmarks by comparing it with 16 state-of-the-art saliency detectors. Experimental results show that our network outperforms our competitors in all the benchmark datasets.

2021 Geofluids
Recently, a data-space inversion (DSI) method has been proposed and successfully applied for the history matching and production optimization for conventional waterflooding reservoir. Under Bayesian framework, DSI can directly and effectively obtain posterior flow predictions without inverting any geological parameters of reservoir model. In this paper, we integrate the numerical simulation model with DSI method for rapid history matching and production prediction for steam flooding reservoir.

DSI-based production prediction model is then established and get trained by the historical data through the random maximum likelihood principle. The posterior production estimation can be obtained fast by training the DSI-based model with history data, but without any posterior geological parameters. The proposed method is applied for history matching and estimating production performance prediction in some numerical examples and a field case, and the results prove its effectiveness and reliability.

Compound 2 was constructed by five continuous quaternary carbon atoms, which occur rarely in natural products. All of the isolates were evaluated for anti-inflammatory activity against the production of nitric oxide (NO) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW264.7 cells. Among those, compounds 1 and 5 showed a significant inhibitory effect on NO production with IC50 values of 1.49 ± 0.31 and 3.41 ± 0.85 μM, respectively. Additionally, compounds 1 and 5 markedly increased the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL10 while suppressing the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL6, TNF-α, IFN-γ, MCP-1, and IL12. Besides, 1 and 5 inhibited the transcription level of pro-inflammatory macrophage markers IL6, IL1β, and TNF-α while remarkably elevating the anti-inflammatory factor IL10 and M2 macrophage markers ARG1 and CD206. Moreover, 1 and 5 restrained the expression and nuclear translocation of NF-κB, as well as its downstream signaling proteins COX-2 and iNOS. All these results suggest that 1 and 5 have potential as anti-inflammatory agents, with better or comparable activities than those of the positive control, dexamethasone.

Promoting Public Engagement during the COVID-19 Crisis: How Effective Is the Wuhan Local Government's Information Release?

Yi Yang, Wen Deng, Yi Zhang, Zijun Mao
2020 International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health
During times of public crises (such as COVID-19), governments must act swiftly to release crisis information effectively and efficiently to the public. This paper provides a general overview of the way that the Wuhan local government use Weibo as a channel to engage with their citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the media richness, dialogic loop, and a series of theoretically relevant factors, such as content type, text length, and information source, we try to examine how citizen

By analyzing the data mining samples from Wuhan Release, the official Sina Weibo account of Wuhan's local government, results show that, despite the unstable situation COVID-19 over the crisis, there exist three stages of a crisis on the whole. Combining the behavior of the government and the public, duration from 31 December 2019 to 19 January 2020 could be seen as the development period, then the outbreak period (30 January 2020 to 28 February 2020), and a grace period (29 February 2020 to19 April 2020). Public attention to different types of information changes over time, but curbing rumors has always been a priority. Media richness features partially influent citizen engagement. Text length is significantly positively associated with citizen engagement through government social media. However, posts containing information sources have a negative impact on citizen engagement.

2019 Journal of Hematology & Oncology
Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide in the USA and worldwide. There has been considerable debate about its carcinogenicity. Epidemiological studies suggest that multiple myeloma (MM) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) have a positive and statistically significant association with glyphosate exposure. As a B cell genome mutator, activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID) is a key pathogenic player in both MM and B cell NHL.

All-trans retinoic acid restored the osteogenic ability of BMP9 in osteosarcoma through the p38 MAPK pathway

Nian Wu, Ruidong Li, Zijun Meng, Mao Nie, Qianzhao Chen, Baicheng He, Zhongliang Deng, Liangjun Yin
2017 International Journal of Oncology
Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common malignant bone tumour and is considered to be a disease caused by a dysfunction in differentiation. Bone morphogenetic protein 9 (BMP9) is the most potent osteogenic factor in mesenchymal stem cells, but it cannot induce osteogenic differentiation in OS cells; this might be one of the determinants in the pathogenesis of OS. All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) can induce osteogenic differentiation of OS cells and potentiate BMP9-induced osteogenesis in
more » ... s. However, the concomitant effect of ATRA and BMP9 in OS cells is unclear; therefore, in the present study, we focused on this topic. The results showed that BMP9 significantly promoted the proliferation of human OS 143B cells and did not induce osteogenic differentiation of cells in vitro (p<0.01). ATRA inhibited proliferation and induced osteogenesis in 143B cells; these effects could be enhanced by BMP9 overexpression (p<0.05). ATRA could significantly increase the level of phosphorylated p38 MAPK (p-p38) in 143B cells, while BMP9 did not have any significant effect. Notably, BMP9 overexpression enhanced the ability of ATRA to increase the levels of p-p38. Both the osteogenic differentiation and the anti-proliferative activity of BMP9 in the presence of ATRA decreased upon treatment with a specific inhibitor of p38 MAPK (SB203580) (p<0.01). This study indicates that the osteogenic differentiation ability of BMP9 in 143B cells can be restored by ATRA, and the combination of BMP9 and ATRA generated a stronger anti-proliferative effect on 143B cells than ATRA alone. This result may be due to the activation of the p38 MAPK pathway.
