2022 Nanomaterials
Transparent nano-ceramics have an important high-transmittance, material-integrating structure and function and a variety of potential applications, such as use in infrared windows, optical isolators, composite armors, intelligent terminal screens, and key materials of solid-state lasers. Transparent ceramics were originally developed to replace single crystals because of their low fabricating cost, controllable shape, and variable composition. Therefore, this study reviews and summarizes the

First, we review the research progress and application of laser nano-ceramic materials, focusing on the influence of controllable doping of rare earth ions on thermal conductivity and the realization of large-scale fabrication technology. Second, the latest research progress on magneto-optical transparent nano-ceramics, mainly including terbium gallium garnet (Tb3Ga5O12, TGG) ceramics and terbium aluminum garnet (Tb3Al5O12, TAG) ceramics, are summarized, and their performance is compared. Third, the research progress of transparent armor nano-ceramic materials, represented by MgAl2O3 and Aluminum oxynitride (AlON), are reviewed. Lastly, the progress in electro-optical transparent nano-ceramics and scintillation transparent nano-ceramics is reported, and the influence of the material-fabrication process on electro-optic effect or luminous intensity is compared. Moreover, the effect of particle diameter on fabrication, the relationship between nano powder and performance, and different sintering methods are discussed. In summary, this study provides a meaningful reference for low-cost and sustainable production in the future.

2022 Nanomaterials
Laser interaction with nanoparticles in liquid is the fundamental theoretical basis for many applications but it is still challenging to observe this nanoscale phenomenon within a few nanoseconds in liquid by experiment. The successful implementation of the two-temperature method integrated with molecular dynamics (TTM-MD) in laser interaction with bulk material has shown great potential in providing a panoramic view of the laser interaction with the nanoparticles. However, the current TTM-MD

We introduce the latest model, which performs the TTM-MD on each individual cluster instead of the cubic cells, and its high-performance parallel cluster analysis algorithm to update the cluster size. The cluster-based TTM-MD revealed the nanoparticle formation mechanism of laser fragmentation in liquid (LFL) and facilitated the study of laser fluence's effect on the size distribution. In addition to LFL, this model is promising to be implemented in the laser thermal therapy of tumors, laser melting in liquid (LML), etc. Although cluster-based TTM-MD has proven to be a powerful tool for studying laser interaction with nanoparticles, a few challenges and future developments for the cluster-based TTM-MD, especially the ionization induced by femtosecond, are also discussed.

2016 Scientific Reports
Blockage of Delta-like 4 (DLL4)-directed Notch signaling induces excessive tip cell formation and endothelial proliferation resulting in dysfunctional angiogenesis in tumors. MMGZ01, as a murine antihuman DLL4 monoclonal antibody, specifically binds to human DLL4 and blocks Notch pathway. Here, the structure of MMGZ01 variable fragment (Fv) was established and framework region (FR) residues which supported complementarily determining region (CDR) loop conformation were identified. Important
more » ... dues interactions were also identified through docking MMGZ01 Fv with antigen epitope in DLL4. To humanize the murine antibody, we modified MMGZ01 Fv through CDR grafting and the reconstructed antibody (H 3 L 2 ) maintained similar structure and binding affinity to parental MMGZ01 after back mutation of 12 canonical murine residues in the FRs. Meanwhile, H 3 L 2 promoted human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) proliferation through inhibiting DLL4-directed Notch pathway. Moreover, in MDA-MB-231-bearing nude mice, H 3 L 2 induced dysfunctional angiogenesis and tumor cell apoptosis and showed superior anti-tumor activity. In conclusion, H 3 L 2 is an ideal humanized antibody that inhibits tumor growth through targeting DLL4-Notch pathway and has attracting potentials for clinical applications.

The use of natural substance to ward off microbial infections has a long history. However, the large-scale production of natural extracts often reduces antibacterial potency, thus limiting practical applications. Here we present a strategy for converting natural organosulfur compounds into nano-iron sulfides that exhibit enhanced antibacterial activity. We show that compared to garlic-derived organosulfur compounds nano-iron sulfides exhibit an over 500fold increase in antibacterial efficacy to

Furthermore, our analysis reveals that hydrogen polysulfanes released from nano-iron sulfides possess potent bactericidal activity and the release of polysulfanes can be accelerated by the enzyme-like activity of nano-iron sulfides. Finally, we demonstrate that topical applications of nano-iron sulfides can effectively disrupt pathogenic biofilms on human teeth and accelerate infected-wound healing. Together, our approach to convert organosulfur compounds into inorganic polysulfides potentially provides an antibacterial alternative to combat bacterial infections.

Novel glasses in GeS 2 -Sb 2 S 3 -AgI system have been prepared by melt-quenching method. A large glass-forming region was found in the novel system, in which almost 60mol% AgI has been incorporated. The basic physiochemical properties of glass samples were investigated. With the addition of AgI, red shift of short-wavelength absorption edge indicates and distinct drop of the glass transition temperature (T g ) were observed. ROS-induced R loops trigger a transcription-coupled but BRCA1/2-independent homologous recombination pathway through CSB

Actively transcribed regions of the genome are protected by transcription-coupled DNA repair mechanisms, including transcription-coupled homologous recombination (TC-HR). Here we used reactive oxygen species (ROS) to induce and characterize TC-HR at a transcribed locus in human cells. As canonical HR, TC-HR requires RAD51. However, the localization of RAD51 to damage sites during TC-HR does not require BRCA1 and BRCA2, but relies on RAD52 and Cockayne Syndrome Protein B (CSB). During TC-HR,
more » ... 2 is recruited by CSB through an acidic domain. CSB in turn is recruited by R loops, which are strongly induced by ROS in transcribed regions. Notably, CSB displays a strong affinity for DNA:RNA hybrids in vitro, suggesting that it is a sensor of ROS-induced R loops. Thus, TC-HR is triggered by R loops, initiated by CSB, and carried out by the CSB-RAD52-RAD51 axis, establishing a BRCA1/2-independent alternative HR pathway protecting the transcribed genome.

2022 Minerals
Apatite is a nearly ubiquitous accessory phase in igneous rocks that crystallizes during the entire magma evolution process and has great implications for geochronology and petrogenesis. Previous studies suggested that Nb-Ta mineralization in the giant Renli deposit was genetically related to Late Jurassic two-mica monzogranite or Early Cretaceous muscovite monzogranite. Moreover, the magmatic–hydrothermal evolution of these two stages is poorly understood. In our study, we confirm that the
more » ... ovite monzogranite, biotite monzogranite, and two-mica monzogranite are all spatially associated with Nb-Ta pegmatites. We present new apatite U-Pb ages to constrain the timing of Nb-Ta mineralization and related magmatism. The results show that apatite from the two-mica pegmatite yield a lower intercept age of 130 ± 2 Ma (2σ), and apatite grains from two two-mica pegmatite samples yield a lower intercept age of 135 ± 8 Ma (2σ) and 134 ± 3 Ma (2σ), respectively. Apatite and whole-rock geochemistry suggest the oxidation degree of the Nb-Ta mineralization increases from north (RL-6) to south (RL-16) in the giant Renli deposit. This study demonstrates that a combination of apatite composition and U-Pb ages can be used to constrain the magmatic–hydrothermal evolution of granite and pegmatite-type Nb-Ta deposits.
