Effect of sPP Content on Electrical Tree Growth Characteristics in PP-Blended Cable Insulation

This paper aims at investigating the electrical tree characteristics of isotactic polypropylene (iPP)/syndiotactic polypropylene (sPP) blends for thermoplastic cable insulation. PP blended samples with sPP contents of 0, 5, 15, 30, and 45 wt% are prepared, and electrical treeing experiments are implemented under alternating current (AC) voltage at 50, 70, and 90 °C. Experimental results show that with the incorporation of sPP increasing to 15 wt%, the inception time of electrical tree increases
more &raquo; ... by 8.2%. The addition of sPP by 15% distinguishes an excellent performance in inhibiting electrical treeing, which benefits from the ability to promote the fractal dimension and lateral growth of branches. Further increase in sPP loading has a negative effect on the electrical treeing resistance of blended insulation. It is proved by DSC and POM that the addition of sPP promotes the heterogeneous crystallization the of PP matrix, resulting in an increasing density of interfacial regions between crystalline regions, which contains charge carrier traps. Charges injected from an electrode into a polymer are captured by deep traps at the interfacial regions, thus inhibiting the propagation of electrical tree. It is concluded that the modification of crystalline morphology by 15 wt% sPP addition has a great advantage in electrical treeing resistance for PP-based cable insulation.

Coupling Effect of Molecular Chain Displacement and Carrier Trap Characteristics on DC Breakdown of HDPE/LDPE Blend Insulation

This work focuses on the coupling effect of molecular chain displacement and trap characteristics on direct current (DC) breakdown properties of high density/low density polyethylene (HDPE/LDPE) blend insulation. Frequency domain spectroscopy (FDS) and isothermal discharge current (IDC) are used to characterize the dielectric relaxation and trap characteristics of HDPE/LDPE blends. The dielectric relaxation α and δ present segmental motions and thermal ion polarization behaviours of HDPE/LDPE blends, respectively. α dielectric relaxation strength ( Δεα) increases as the amount of HDPE increases from 0 to 5 wt%, and then declines with a further increase of HDPE content to 20 wt%. According to the velocity equation, the increase of Δεα will increase the molecular chain displacement, resulting in a larger free volume, which will provide electrons with larger free path λ to form hot electrons. A positive correlation exists between the activation energy of the dielectric relaxation process δ and trap density, and the increase of δ dielectric relaxation strength (Δεδ) will adversely affect the breakdown strength of the specimen. HDPE/LDPE blends with 15 wt% HDPE content have lower Δεα and lowest Δεδ, which decreases the mean free path λ of molecular chain and thermal ion polarization. At the same time, it has the highest deep trap density, thus increasing the probability of hot electrons being captured and improving the DC breakdown strength. It is concluded the breakdown of the dielectric is synergistically affected by the molecular chain displacement and carrier trap.

Online Detection of Watercore Apples by Vis/NIR Full-Transmittance Spectroscopy Coupled with ANOVA Method

Watercore is an internal physiological disorder affecting the quality and price of apples. Rapid and non-destructive detection of watercore is of great significance to improve the commercial value of apples. In this study, the visible and near infrared (Vis/NIR) full-transmittance spectroscopy combined with analysis of variance (ANOVA) method was used for online detection of watercore apples. At the speed of 0.5 m/s, the effects of three different orientations (O1, O2, and O3) on the
more &raquo; ... ion results of watercore apples were evaluated, respectively. It was found that O3 orientation was the most suitable for detecting watercore apples. One-way ANOVA was used to select the characteristic wavelengths. The least squares-support vector machine (LS-SVM) model with two characteristic wavelengths obtained good performance with the success rates of 96.87% and 100% for watercore and healthy apples, respectively. In addition, full-spectrum data was also utilized to determine the optimal two-band ratio for the discrimination of watercore apples by ANOVA method. Study showed that the threshold discrimination model established based on O3 orientation had the same detection accuracy as the optimal LS-SVM model for samples in the prediction set. Overall, full-transmittance spectroscopy combined with the ANOVA method was feasible to online detect watercore apples, and the threshold discrimination model based on two-band ratio showed great potential for detection of watercore apples.

Rhodioloside inhibits apoptosis of hippocampal neurons exposed to sevoflurane via cAMP/PKA signaling pathway

Purpose: Neural injury affects patients after using inhalational anesthetics such as sevoflurane. Rhodioloside, a compound which is obtained from the Rhodiola rosea plant has been implicated to be the most commonly used psychostimulant that can improve a range of conditions. The study was aimed at finding the molecular mechanism underlying the Rhodioloside treatment of sevoflurane-injured hippocampal neurons.Methods: Main hippocampal neurons, secluded from Sprague Dawley embryonic rats were
more &raquo; ... oyed to create an injury model using 3 % sevoflurane. The sevoflurane-injured hippocampal neurons were treated with varying concentrations (10, 20, 40 and 80 μM/ml) of Rhodioloside to create different experimental groups: RHSD10+SEV, RHSD20+SEV, RHSD40+SEV, RHSD80+SEV, while untreated cells were considered as the Control group. Cell viability was identified using the CCK-8 assay. The CFSE assay was used to verify the promotion function of Rhodioloside on cell differentiation of neurons. FCM assay was employed to determine cell proliferation and apoptosis. Expression levels of apoptosisrelated factors, like Caspase-3, Bcl-2 and Bax were examined by RT-qPCR, while Western blot was used to measure phosphorylation of PKA.Results: Rhodioloside stimulated cell viability and prevented cell apoptosis in sevoflurane-injured hippocampal neurons in doses between 10-80 μM. The apoptosis-inhibitory effect of Rhodioloside was observed to be through cAMP/PKA pathway activation. Also, expression levels of Bcl-2, and PKA were enhanced and the level of Caspase-3 and Bax was reduced in a dose-dependent pattern. The PKA inhibitor reversed the above observation in the 40 μM Rhodioloside-treatment.Conclusion: Rhodioloside promoted cell viability and prevented apoptosis of primary hippocampal neurons injured by sevoflurane, through cAMP/PKA pathway activation. Inhibition of PKA network deteriorated the function of Rhodioloside by stimulating cell apoptosis. Our findings present a novel evidence that Rhodioloside could attenuate neurotoxicity of inhalational anesthetics. ALV-J GP37 Molecular Analysis Reveals Novel Virus-Adapted Sites and Three Tyrosine-Based Env Species

Compared to other avian leukosis viruses (ALV), ALV-J primarily induces myeloid leukemia and hemangioma and causes significant economic loss for the poultry industry. The ALV-J Env protein is hypothesized to be related to its unique pathogenesis. However, the molecular determinants of Env for ALV-J pathogenesis are unclear. In this study, we compared and analyzed GP37 of ALV-J Env and the EAV-HP sequence, which has high homology to that of ALV-J Env. Phylogenetic analysis revealed five groups
more &raquo; ... ALV-J GP37 and two novel ALV-J Envs with endemic GP85 and EAV-HP-like GP37. Furthermore, at least 15 virusadapted mutations were detected in GP37 compared to the EAV-HP sequence. Further analysis demonstrated that three tyrosine-based motifs (YxxM, ITIM (immune tyrosinebased inhibitory motif) and ITAM-like (immune tyrosine-based active motif like)) associated with immune disease and oncogenesis were found in the cytoplasmic tail of GP37. Based on the potential function and distribution of these motifs in GP37, ALV-J Env was grouped into three species, inhibitory Env, bifunctional Env and active Env. Accordingly, 36.91%, 61.74% and 1.34% of ALV-J Env sequences from GenBank are classified as inhibitory, bifunctional and active Env, respectively. Additionally, the Env of the ALV-J prototype strain, HPRS-103, and 17 of 18 EAV-HP sequences belong to the inhibitory Env. And models for signal transduction of the three ALV-J Env species were predicted. Our findings and models provide novel insights for identifying the roles and molecular mechanism of ALV-J Env in the unique pathogenesis of ALV-J.

Dietary natural astaxanthin at an early stage inhibits N-nitrosomethylbenzylamine–induced esophageal cancer oxidative stress and inflammation via downregulation of NFκB and COX2 in F344 rats

Purpose: Esophageal cancer is a common malignant tumor that develops rapidly and has a poor prognosis clinically. Astaxanthin (AST) is a carotenoid pigment with strong antioxidant, anti-inflammation, and antitumor activities. However, little is known about the effects of astaxanthin in esophageal cancer. The present study aimed to investigate the protective effects and related mechanisms of natural astaxanthin against N-nitrosomethylbenzylamine (NMBA)-induced esophageal cancer in rats. Methods:
more &raquo; ... F344 rats were induced subcutaneously with NMBA dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (0.35 mg/kg body weight three times per week for 5 weeks). Rats were fed normal diets with or without 25 mg/kg/day AST at different stages. At different time points, levels of oxidative stress factors in serum and esophagus tissue were analyzed. Western blotting was performed to observe the expression of NFκB and COX2 in esophagus tissue. Results: AST clearly reduced the incidence of visible tumors in esophageal cancer during the early-stage intervention group. Furthermore, when compared with the simple exposed group, AST significantly increased levels of GPx and SOD activity, decreased the activity level of malondialdehyde (all P<0.05). Early-stage and whole-stage intervention groups effectively attenuated expression levels of NFκB and COX2 proteins compared with the simple exposed group (all P<0.05). Conclusion: Natural AST significantly suppressed the occurrence of esophageal cancer by increasing antioxidant capacity and anti-inflammation capacity by inhibiting expression levels of NFκB and COX2 proteins.
