MyHealthAvatar (MHA) is built on the latest information and communications technology with the aim of collecting lifestyle and health data to promote citizen's wellbeing. According to the collected data, MHA offers visual analytics of lifestyle data, contributes to individualised disease prediction and prevention, and supports healthy lifestyles and independent living. The iManageCancer project aims to empower patients and strengthen self-management in cancer diseases. Therefore, MHA has
more &raquo; ... uted to the iManageCancer scenario and provides functionality to the iManageCancer platform in terms of its support of lifestyle management of cancer patients by providing them with services to help their cancer management. This paper presents two different MHA-based Android applications for breast and prostate cancer patients. The components in these apps facilitate health and lifestyle data presentation and analysis, including weight control, activity, mood and sleep data collection, promotion of physical exercise after surgery, questionnaires and helpful information. These components can be used cooperatively to achieve flexible visual analysis of spatiotemporal lifestyle and health data and can also help patients discover information about their disease and its management.

Coating deposition regularity depended on orientation difference in PS-PVD plasma jet

The YSZ coatings are prepared by the plasma spray-physical vapor deposition (PS-PVD) technology based on a specific experimental design. The structure, thickness and growth angle of YSZ coatings on the entire circumferential surface of the cylindrical sample are studied. The results indicated that the structure, thickness and deflection growth angle of YSZ coatings are related to the orientation of deposition location. The growth rate is related to the local characteristics of the plasma flow field, and is directly proportional to the field pressure and inversely proportional to the field velocity. The growth angle of the coating is generally affected by the flow direction of the plasma jet. Especially, the normal component of velocity vector, V norm , mainly affects the speed at which the coating grows vertically upwards. The tangential component of velocity vector, V tan , determines the degree that the coating growth direction deviates from the vertical direction. When V tan -0, the coating forms a fine column with a certain deflection angle and finally develops into an oblique columnar structure.

Overexpression of CyclinA2 ameliorates hypoxia-impaired proliferation of cardiomyocytes

Hypoxia is a primary mediator for cell survival, and has been reported to inhibit cardiomyocyte proliferation in fetal and neonatal hearts. CyclinA2 is a key regulator of cell proliferation. Whether CyclinA2 affects cardiomyocyte proliferation in hypoxic conditions remains unexamined. This study was designed to investigate the roles of CyclinA2 expression on hypoxia-impaired cardiomyocyte proliferation. The cells in the control group were cultured in a general cell incubator; the cells in the hypoxia group were placed in a hypoxic chamber for 12 h; the cells in the EGFP-Adv and EGFP-Ccna2 groups were separately transfected with EGFP-adenovirus capsids or EGFP-adenovirus capsids with CyclinA2 cDNA for 18 h, and then placed in a general incubator for an additional 12 h; the cells in the EGFP-Adv + hypoxia and EGFP-Ccna2 + hypoxia groups were separately transfected with EGFP-adenovirus capsids or EGFP-adenovirus capsids with CyclinA2 cDNA for 18 h, and then placed in a hypoxia chamber for an additional 12 h. CyclinA2 expression was measured using immunochemical staining and western blot analysis, and cardiomyocyte proliferation was measured using the cell counting kit 8. GFP fluorescence indicated a high transfection efficiency (>80%), and immunochemical staining showed that CyclinA2 was mainly distributed in the nucleus. CyclinA2 expression was downregulated following exposure to hypoxia for 12 h. Cardiomyocyte proliferation was also significantly decreased following exposure to hypoxia for 12 h. However, compared with the EGFP-Adv group, CyclinA2 expression and cardiomyocyte proliferation was markedly increased in the EGFP-Ccna2 group. Furthermore, compared with the EGFP-Adv + hypoxia group, CyclinA2 expression and cell proliferation were markedly increased in the EGFP-Ccna2 + hypoxia group. These findings indicate that CyclinA2 upregulation improves cardiomyocyte proliferation in hypoxic conditions.

Organizing scientific papers helps efficiently derive meaningful insights of the published scientific resources, enables researchers grasp rapid technological change and hence assists new scientific discovery. In this paper, we experiment text mining and data management of scientific publications for collecting and presenting useful information to support research. For efficient data management and fast information retrieval, four data storages are employed: a semantic repository, an index and

The results show that the combination of these four repositories can effectively store and index the publication data with reliability and efficiency and hence supply meaningful information to support scientific research.

Research on the Overtopping-Induced Breaching Mechanism of Tailings Dam and Its Numerical Simulation

The centrifugal model test system is utilized to reappear the breaching process of a tailings dam. The results show that there are significant differences in breaching processes between tailings dams and earth-rockfill dams. Influenced by the special physical and mechanical properties of tailings, the breaching processes of tailings dams are of short duration, and the flood flow through the breach increase rapidly. In the model, the vertical undercutting and horizontal expansion are simulated utilizing the erosion rate formula which is derived from shear stress principle of water flow; limit equilibrium method is used to analyze the breach slope stability. In addition, the model adopts iterative calculation method to simulate the whole breaching process. The analysis results show that, the proposed model is applicable in modeling the dam breaching process for tailings dam due to overtopping.

In this paper we introduce the role of visual analytics for health monitoring and risk management in the European Commission funded project CARRE which aims to provide innovative means for the management of cardiorenal diseases with the assistance of wearable sensors. The visual analytics components of timeline and parallel coordinates for health monitoring and of node-link diagrams, chord diagrams and sankey diagrams for risk analysis are presented to achieve ubiquitous and lifelong health and risk monitoring to promote people's health.

During the development of a CN Ⅵ light vehicle equipped with a GDI gasoline engine, the phenomenon of high PN appeared. In response to the operating conditions of the engine running in the WLTC cycle, a corresponding SOI sweep was performed on the dyno bench. The PN emissions of the engine has reduced by optimizing of SOI. The results show that when the SOI is sufficiently advanced, the oil film formed by the collision of the spray and the piston causes the PN emissions to increase
more &raquo; ... . In order to avoid the deterioration of the PN emissions, the SOI should be appropriately postponed. In the low load conditions, it is more appropriate to calibrate the SOI at 295°CA and 290°CA. In the medium speed area, it is more suitable to set it at 300°CA or later. The SOI in the higher speed area can be slightly advanced if necessary. And the impact of SOI on fuel consumption is more obvious at low speeds, but it is not obvious at the conditions of medium to high loads and speeds.

Precisely modulating the structure of nanoparticles in a controlled manner is still a challenging and inspiring topic. Although the single or few-metal atom tailoring of gold nanoparticles has been reported, local structural replacement involving over three net metal atoms (module replacement, MR) has not been hitherto achieved. Herein, we report the synthesis of cyclohexanethiolated metal nanoclusters (NCs) Au 48 (CHT) 26 and their MR by a so-called pseudo-anti-galvanic reaction (AGR) process.

The MR product Au 37 (CHT) 23 shares a similar Au 31 (CHT) 12 unit with its predecessor Au 48 (CHT) 26 ; however, it differs from its predecessor in the remaining section (Au 6 (CHT) 11 vs. Au 16 (CHT) 14 ), as revealed by single-crystal X-ray crystallography (SCXC). Interestingly, the MR inhibits the photothermy but enhances the emission of Au 48 (CHT) 26 NCs, which might endow the as-obtained NC better potential for bi(multiple)-functional application. The counter effects of the MR on the emission and photothermy indicate that photoluminescence and photothermy can be at least partly converted into each other, which has some important implications for the understanding of their interaction.

A B S T R A C T Due to importantly beneficial effects on physical and mental health and strong association with many rehabilitation programs, Physical Activity Recognition and Monitoring (PARM) have been considered as a key paradigm for smart healthcare. Traditional methods for PARM focus on controlled environments with the aim of increasing the types of identifiable activity subjects complete and improving recognition accuracy and system robustness by means of novel body-worn sensors or
more &raquo; ... d learning algorithms. The emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) enabling technology is transferring PARM studies to open and connected uncontrolled environments by connecting heterogeneous cost-effective wearable devices and mobile apps. Little is currently known about whether traditional PARM technologies can tackle the new challenges of IoT environments and how to effectively harness and improve these technologies. In an effort to understand the use of IoT technologies in PARM studies, this paper will give a systematic review, critically examining PARM studies from a typical IoT layer-based perspective. It will firstly summarize the state-of-the-art in traditional PARM methodologies as used in the healthcare domain, including sensory, feature extraction and recognition techniques. The paper goes on to identify some new research trends and challenges of PARM studies in the IoT environments, and discusses some key enabling techniques for tackling them. Finally, this paper consider some of the successful case studies in the area and look at the possible future industrial applications of PARM in smart healthcare.

Identification and Validation of 7-lncRNA Signature of Epigenetic Disorders by Comprehensive Epigenetic Analysis

Overall survival was estimated by Kaplan-Meier, comparisons were performed among groups using log-rank tests to derive differences between sample subclasses, and epigenetic lncRNAs (epi-lncRNAs) potentially relevant to LUAD prognosis were identified. A total of seven dysregulated epi-lncRNAs in LUAD were identified by comparing histone modifications and alterations in histone methylation regions on lncRNA promoter and enhancer elements, including H3K4me2, H3K27me3, H3K4me1, H3K9me3, H4K20me1, H3K9ac, H3K79me2, H3K27ac, H3K4me3, and H3K36me3. Furthermore, 69 LUAD-specific dysregulated epi-lncRNAs were identified. Moreover, lncRNAs-based prognostic analysis of LUAD samples was performed and explored that seven of these lncRNAs, including A2M-AS1, AL161431.1, DDX11-AS1, FAM83A-AS1, MHENCR, MNX1-AS1, and NKILA (7-EpiLncRNA), showed the potential to serve as markers for LUAD prognosis. Additionally, patients having a high 7-EpiLncRNA score showed a generally more unfavorable prognosis compared with those which scored lower. Seven lncRNAs were identified as markers of prognosis in patients with LUAD. The outcomes of this research will help us understand epigenetically aberrant regulation of lncRNA expression in LUAD in a better way and have implications for research advances in the regulatory role of lncRNAs in LUAD.
