Parallel Computing Based Dynamic Programming Algorithm of Track-before-Detect

The conventional dynamic programming-based track-before-detect (DP-TBD) methods are usually intractable in multi-target scenarios. The adjacent targets may interfere with each other, and the computational complexity is increased with the number of targets. In this paper, a DP-TBD method using parallel computing (PC-DP-TBD) is proposed to solve the above problems. The search region of the proposed PC-DP-TBD is divided into several parts according to the possible target movement direction. The
more » ... rgy integration is carried out independently and parallel in each part. This contributes to reducing the computational complexity in each part, since the divided search region is smaller than the whole one. In addition, the target energy can only be integrated adequately in the part in which the search direction matches the target movement. This is beneficial to improve the ability to detect the targets with various movement directions in different parts with different search directions. The solution to the problem of the adjacent targets interfering with each other is discussed. The procedure of the parallel computing in the proposed PC-DP-TBD is presented in detail. Simulations are conducted to verify the superiority of the proposed PC-DP-TBD in terms of detection probability and computational complexity.

Congenital pulmonary airway malformation mimicking lung cancer

Congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) is a rare developmental deformity of the lower respiratory tract. The disease occurs more in newborns. However, on rare occasions, CPAM can be found in adults. Radiologic features of CPAM include cystic or solid mass pattern. In an elderly patient, CPAM can be easily misdiagnosed as lung cancer. A 66-year old woman was admitted with complaints of chronic cough, expectoration. Her past history was unremarkable with no history of tuberculosis or
more » ... ing. Physical examination was normal. Computerized tomography of the chest showed an irregular cystic lesion in right lower lobe. Histopathological results confirmed the diagnosis of CPAM. The right pulmonary wedge resection was performed via thoracoscopic surgery. On follow up 1 year later, the patient is asymptomatic. CPAM is rare in adults, and imaging cannot accurately distinguish CPAM from thin-walled cystic lung cancer. Hence, histopathology is mandatory to confirm the diagnosis.

Proteomics Analysis of Alfalfa Response to Heat Stress

The proteome responses to heat stress have not been well understood. In this study, alfalfa (Medicago sativa L. cv. Huaiyin) seedlings were exposed to 25uC (control) and 40uC (heat stress) in growth chambers, and leaves were collected at 24, 48 and 72 h after treatment, respectively. The morphological, physiological and proteomic processes were negatively affected under heat stress. more » ... ally expressed protein spots were identified by mass spectrometry (MS). Totally, 81 differentially expressed proteins were identified successfully by MALDI-TOF/TOF. These proteins were categorized into nine classes: including metabolism, energy, protein synthesis, protein destination/storage, transporters, intracellular traffic, cell structure, signal transduction and disease/defence. Five proteins were further analyzed for mRNA levels. The results of the proteomics analyses provide a better understanding of the molecular basis of heat-stress responses in alfalfa.

Objectives: Recent findings suggest that in response to repair-to-injury bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) participate in the process of angiogenesis. more » ... re of BMSCs were examined. The effect of BMSCs transplantation on the vascular repair was investigated in a murine carotid artery-injured model. Results: BMSCs could express some markers and form the tube-like structure. The migration and adhesion capacity of BMSCs increased significantly after stimulated. In addition, BMSCs had the intact cell junction. In vivo the local transfer of BMSCs differentiated into neo-endothelial cells in the injury model for carotid artery and contributed to the vascular remodeling. Conclusion: These results showed that BMSCs could contribute to neointimal formation for vascular lesion and might be associated with the differentiation into ECs, which indicated the important therapeutic implications for vascular diseases.

An optical fiber sensor network for ultrasonic measurement based on wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and time division multiplexing (TDM) technology is presented. Each of the sensor probes is an optical fiber extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometer (EFPI) which is composed of the fiber's end face and the aluminum thin diaphragm. The signal of each sensor is exported sequentially from a tunable narrowband optical filter (TNOF) that queries every sensor though scanning mode. The principle of the phenomenon of phase induced signal fade in interferometric fiber-optic sensors is also analyzed. Nicely, the detection method above implements the operation of anti-phase induced signal fade detection. The system is interrogated by broadband light source. The scanning range of TNOF is full of the bandwidth of the light source. The result of experiment in water show that the sensor sensitivity reaches -162dB(0dB=1rad/µPa), the Pa), the frequency response range is from 10KHz to 5 MHz. The number of multiplexing sensors based on WDM and TDM reaches to 64.
