Reproductive cycle ofMiniopterus schreibersii(Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae) in western Iran

Delayed implantation in bats is an interrupted reproductive cycle which provides a unique adaptation to seasonal changes in climate and food availability. In bats with a vast geographic distribution this can give the ability to perform different reproductive patterns throughout their geographic range. Delayed implantation has been observed in several species of bats of which one, the Schreiber's Long-Fingered Bat Miniopterus schreibersii, occurs in Iran. Information obtained from two females
more » ... vided evidence on delayed implantation in Miniopterus schreibersii through microscopic observation of the corpus luteum in late October. Assuming that fertilization takes place immediately after follicogenesis, evidence on approximate parturition time provided sufficient information to construct the annual reproductive cycle for this bat in western Iran. The total gestation length of Miniopterus schreibersii in western Iran is 7.5 to 8 months. Kurzfassung. Bei Fledermäusen stellt die verzögerte Implantation einen unterbrochenen Reproduktionszyklus dar, der eine einmalige Anpassung an die jahreszeitlichen Änderungen im Klima und an die sich rasch ändernde Verfügbarkeit der Nahrung darstellt. Bei Fledermäusen mit einer weiten geographischen Verbreitung kann dies zu unterschiedlichen Reproduktionsmustern innerhalb ihres Verbreitungsgebietes führen. Verzögerte Implantation wurde bei mehreren Fledermausarten festgestellt, von denen eine Art, Miniopterus schreibersii, im Iran vorkommt. Daten, die Ende Oktober an zwei Weibchen mittels mikroskopischer Untersuchung des Corpus luteum gewonnen wurden, geben Hinweise auf eine verzögerte Implantation. Wenn man annimmt, dass die Befruchtung unmittelbar nach dem Follikelsprung stattfindet, lässt sich der gesamte Reproduktionszyklus im westlichen Iran konstruieren. Die Tragezeit von Miniopterus schreibersii erstreckt sich im westlichen Iran über 7,5 bis 8 Monate.

Conflict resolution using relation classification: High-level data fusion in data integration

The aim of conflict resolution in data integration systems is to identify the true values from among different and conflicting claims about a single entity provided by different data sources. Most data fusion methods for resolving conflicts between entities are based on two estimated parameters: the truthfulness of data and the trustworthiness of sources. The relations between entities are however an additional source of information that can be used in conflict resolution. In this article, we
more » ... ek to bridge the gap between two important broad areas, relation estimation and truth discovery, and to demonstrate that there is a natural synergistic relationship between machine learning and data fusion. Specifically, we use relational machine learning methods to estimate the relations between entities, and then use these relations to estimate the true value using some fusion functions. An evaluation of the results shows that our proposed approach outperforms existing conflict resolution techniques, especially where there are few reliable sources.

3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine is psychoactive and hallucinogenic and has been shown to produce neurotoxicity both in animals and in humans. Recently, vasodilator drugs such as pentoxifylline (PTX) have been introduced as an alternative with neuroprotective effects. There is no study about the protective effect of PTX on hippocampal apoptosis due to high-dose administration of 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), so in this study, the protective effect of PTX on the hippocampus of male
more » ... istar rats following high-dose of the drug has been investigated. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four male Wistar rats weighing 250-300 g were randomly divided into four groups: control, sham (MDMA injection), experimental (MDMA+PTX injection), and vehicle (MDMA+saline) groups. Two weeks later, the brains were removed and prepared for TUNEL and western blot techniques. Concomitantly the hippocampus was removed to study the change in Bcl-2 and BAX mRNA expression with quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Results: Data showed that the number of apoptotic bodies significantly decreased in the experimental group compared to the other groups, except for in control. Also, further investigation revealed that BAX reduced considerably, while Bcl-2 mRNA expression increased dramatically after PTX treatment. Conclusions: Our results suggest that PTX may be a neuroprotective agent, and its neuroprotective potential may contribute to reducing the severity of lesions in the hippocampus following a high dose administration of MDMA. We present a formal model for two-dimensional mesh GloballyAsynchronous Locally Synchronous (GALS) NoCs with four-phase handshakecommunication protocol, using the actor-based modeling language Rebeca. Functionaland timing behaviors, routing algorithm and communication protocol are capturedin the model. Deadlock freedom, message arrival, and end-to-end packet latencyare checked. In order to analyze large NoCs we propose a scalable approachbased on compositional verification for estimating maximum end-to-end packet latency.The compositional approach is specific for the XY-routing algorithm. Resultsof verification are compared and matched to simulation results of HSPICE using32nm technology.

Variation in the diet of the Greater Mouse-tailed Bat,Rhinopoma microphyllum(Chiroptera: Rhinopomatidae) in south-western Iran

The diet of Rhinopoma microphyllum was investigated through the analysis of droppings collected from two summer roosts in the temperate mid-Zagros Range, and was compared with a similar study made on the closest known maternity roost in the arid zone of the Persian Gulf Littoral. The results show that this bat remains primarily a Coleoptera feeder in both maternity and summer quarters, although a more diverse feeding habit is found in the summer roosts. more » ... high dominance of beetles (Coleoptera) accounted for 77 and 89% of the recovered items by volume, while in the maternity roost 86% of the volume belongs to the beetles. Prey types recovered in the summer quarters which were not represented in the maternity roost included small numbers of Diptera, Neuroptera and Hymenoptera. Kurzfassung. Die Nahrung der Großklappnase, Rhinopoma microphyllum, wurde an zwei Sommerrastplätzen im temperierten zentralen Zagrosgebirge mit Hilfe von Kotaufsammlungen analysiert und mit Ergebnissen verglichen, die von der nächstgelegenen Fortpflanzungskolonie in der Trockenzone des Persischen Golfs stammen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass sich diese Fledermaus sowohl an den Sommerrastplätzen, als auch in der Fortpflanzungskolonie vorwiegend von Käfern (Coleoptera) ernährt. Am Sommerrastplatz ist das Nahrungsspektrum jedoch diverser. Die Daten zeigen, dass Käfer an den Sommerrastplätzen 77 bzw. 89% der Menge der Nahrung ausmachen. In der Fortpflanzungskolonie betrug dieser Anteil 86%. An den Sommerrastplätzen wurde eine geringe Anzahl von Nahrungspartikel (Diptera, Neuroptera, Hymenoptera) gefunden, die in der Fortpflanzungskolonie fehlten.
