The present study investigated how attention to global or local levels of hierarchical patterns modulates brain activities by recording high-density event-related brain potentials (ERPs) evoked by hierarchical stimuli. 120-channel recordings of ERPs were obtained from subjects while they detected targets at global or local levels of hierarchical stimuli displayed in the left or the right visual field. We found that attention to local stimulus features enhanced posterior PI and N2 components,
more » ... h the N2 enhancement showing a left hemisphere predominance regardless of stimulus positions. Difference was also seen in the distribution of the frontal P2. Reaction times were slowed when global and local levels of stimuli were incompatible, and an interference effect was observed on anterior N2 amplitudes and latencies. Three-dimensional current distributions showed common sources over the posterior cortex between 80-230 ms and a contralateral frontal source between 300-400 ms for global and local conditions. However, an additional ipsilateral frontal focus between 230-350 ms was found specially for local processing. The results corroborate the findings of previous ERP studies, and suggest that the frontal lobe is particularly important for the selective processing of local parts of a global structure.

Purification of multipartite entanglement by local operations [article]

Multipartite entanglement purification is revisited by using the Local operations and classical communications(LOCCs). We demonstrate our idea by considering the tripartite case, i.e. the purification of tripartite entanglement. We express the general tripartite entangled states in a special representation of total spin operators J_123^2 and tripartite system with eigenvalues 15/4 and 2 respectively. more » ... artite system. Our protocol is a recurrence one, and only two copies of the initial mixed tripartite entangled states are needed in each round. It is shown that if the initial fidelity is larger than a threshold 0.4, the purification process will succeed.The yield of the current protocol is higher than the previous multipartite entanglement purification protocols. As a by-product, we can get a bipartite pure Bell state when the purification protocol fails for W state. Our protocol also shows that there may be some special kind of tripartite entanglement which belongs to neither W-type entanglement nor GHZ-type entanglement.

An analytical approach to dynamic spalling of brittle materials

Dynamic behaviors of tensile strength of brittle materials are investigated analytically, and an explicit mathematical expression for the dynamic tensile strength under a quadratic boundary loading is derived, together with the so-called structuraltemporal failure criterion. The analytical solution shows reasonably good agreement with the previous dynamic experimental data. more » ... ined completely by the quasistatic material parameters such as the quasistatic tensile strength, material density and the incubation-time, which implies that the so-called strain-rate effect on the strength of brittle materials should not be considered as an intrinsic material property, but a structural response feature to the dynamic loadings. Additionally, it is also demonstrated that the scatter nature of the previous experimental data for the dynamic tensile strength is resulted directly from the interaction between the boundary loadings and the material properties, which can be predicated well by the obtained analytic expression.

Nowadays, more and more people accept the idea of "social coding". Contributions to a software development process are most likely made or to be Abstract With the support of cloud computing techniques, social coding platforms have changed the style of software development. Github is now the most popular social coding platform and project hosting service. Software developers of various levels keep entering Github, and use Github to save their public and private software projects. The large amounts of software developers and software repositories on Github are posing new challenges to the world of software engineering. This paper tries to tackle one of the important problems: analyzing the importance and influence of Github repositories. We proposed a HITS based influence analysis on graphs that represent the star relationship between Github users and repositories. A weighted version of HITS is applied to the overall star graph, and generates a different set of top influential repositories other than the results from standard version of HITS algorithm. We also conduct the influential analysis on per-month star graph, and study the monthly influence ranking of top repositories.

Association between premature ovarian insufficiency and gut microbiota

Background Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is characterized by impairment of ovarian function on a continuum before the age of 40 years. POI is affected by multiple factors. Considering new insights from recent gut microbiome studies, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between gut microbial community structure and POI. more » ... POI (n = 35) were analyzed using 16S rRNA gene sequencing based on Illumina NovaSeq platform. Results Compared to the controls, the serum levels of FSH, LH, T and FSH/LH ratio significantly increased in women with POI, whereas E2 and AMH decreased significantly. Higher weighted UniFrac value was observed in POI women compared with healthy women. Phylum Firmicutes, genera Bulleidia and Faecalibacterium were more abundant in healthy women, while phylum Bacteroidetes, genera Butyricimonas, Dorea, Lachnobacterium and Sutterella enriched significantly in women with POI. Moreover, these alterations of the gut microbiome in women with POI were closely related to FSH, LH, E2, AMH level and FSH/LH ratio. Conclusions Women with POI had altered microbial profiles in their gut microbiome, which were associated with serum hormones levels. These results will shed a new light on the pathogenesis and treatment for POI.

Liver cancer has a high incidence of mortality. DNA replication and posttranscriptional modifications play important roles in the development of liver cancer. Pescadillo (PES1) is a nuclear protein that is involved in embryonic development, ribosome synthesis, DNA replication, and cell cycle progression. more » ... d animal models, the aim of this study is to investigate the expression patterns and specific roles of PES1 in liver cancer. PES1 expression was represented by boxplots. The correlation between PES1 expression and clinical features was assessed by the chi-squared test and Fisher's exact tests. Kaplan-Meier curves compared overall survival between different levels of PES1 expression, and Cox analysis selected potential variables associated with overall survival. The MTT assay investigated the proliferation rate, the scratch assay assessed the migratory ability, and the Transwell assay evaluated the invasion capacity of tumor cells in vitro. Animal models were used to confirm the tumorigenic roles of PES1 in vivo. GSEA illustrated the molecular mechanisms that PES1 participated in. We found that PES1 was highly expressed in liver cancer tissues, served as a diagnostic marker, and correlated with poor overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS) in patients. In vitro studies indicated that PES1 promoted tumor cell proliferation (P=0.0034), migration (P=0.0026), and invasion (P=0.0008), and this tumorigenic role was confirmed in animal models. GSEA further illuminated molecular mechanisms that PES1 participated in liver cancer occurrence and progression. This study suggested that PES1 was upregulated in liver cancer and correlated with poor prognosis, by promoting tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, and PES1 may be a novel diagnostic and prognostic bio-marker and a promising therapeutic target in liver cancer.

Investigation and Analysis of Iron-Deficiency Anemia Complicated by Splenomegaly

This study aimed to determine the incidence of iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) complicated by splenomegaly in our hospital over the past 6 years and to analyze the possible causes of this result. In total, 668 patients with IDA who were hospitalized in the hematology department of our hospital from 2013 to 2019 were selected as the research subjects and included in the IDA group, and 3201 patients who underwent outpatient physical examinations in our hospital during

The incidences of splenomegaly in the IDA and control groups were calculated, and the difference was analyzed by means of statistical methods. Among the 668 IDA patients, 46 (6.9%) had splenomegaly, and among the 3201 patients in the control group, 21 had splenomegaly (0.7%). The incidence of splenomegaly was significantly higher in the IDA group than in the control group, and the severity of anemia in the IDA group was associated with the occurrence of splenomegaly. Specifically, the incidence of splenomegaly was 12.4% among patients with severe anemia and as high as 50% among patients with extremely severe anemia. IDA is correlated with the incidence of splenomegaly, and the incidence of splenomegaly significantly increases as the severity of IDA increases. This is considered to be caused by extramedullary hematopoiesis.

Unlike the traditional single-task random forests, multi-task random forests are built upon incomplete training videos annotated with action labels as well as temporal progress labels. Meanwhile, incorporating both random forests and multi-task random forests can increase the diversity of classifiers and improve the discriminative power of the multi-task deep forest. Experiments on the UT-Interaction and the BIT-Interaction datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed multi-task deep forest.
