Objectives Previous studies have exhibited the protective effects of synthesised polymers alone oras scaffold for myocardial infractions (MI) treatment. Methods Twotypes of poly N-isopropylacrylamide thermoresponsive hydrogel (defined as Gel A and GelB) were synthesised by our previous report. In vivo hydrogel formation and maintenance were observed and confirmed in male KM mice (20±5 g) to make sure the degredation days of hydrogel in vivo. MI was induced in male Wistar rats (200 ±20 g) by the ligation of left anterior descending conronary artery. The MI rats were grouped to receive intra-myocardialinjection of 100 ml phosphate buffered saline, 3% (w/v) GelA or 3% (w/v) Gel B solution randomly by intra-myocardium injection. The geometric structure of the hydrogel was also test by electron scanning microscopy. Echocardiographyand hemodynamic analysis were used to evaluate left ventricular systolic and diastolic function. Isolated infarcted or sham myocardium was tailored for contractility measurement in vitro. Western blotting and immunohistochemistry were used for detecting collagen metabolism. Results In vivo degradation investigation showed the biodegradation time of Gel A is approximate 85 days and the days of Gel B is nearly 28 days. Electron scanning microscopy images exhibited the threedimensional structure of cross-linked and skeleton-liked networks contributing to form holes which could adhere to red blood cells. At the aspect of inhibiting ventricular infarction enlargement, Gel A or Gel B showed no significant difference, while, Gel B performed better than Gel A on improving left ventricular systolic and diastolic function (p<0.05). Collagen hyper-deposition around the infarcted and noninfarcted myocardium is a common phenomenon after infarction. However, the injection of thermoresponsive hydrogel could significantly down-regulated collagen deposition. Notably, the effectiveness of hydrogel on regulate collagen metabolism is not through TFG-β signal pathway. Additionally, contractitility of isolated infarcted myocardium was significantly deteriorated, however, contractionforce significant increased due to the improvement of contractive ordination after hydrogel used. Conclusions Synthesised poly N-isopropylacrymide hydrogel is an excellent option for MI treatment. Properphysical featrues may be the potential reason for the effective cardiacprotection of the thermoresponsive hydrogel post-MI. Additionally, suitabledegradation time of synthesised poly N-isopropylacrymide hydrogel is a anotherconsideration for biomaterials designing. We deem the physical properties of polyN-isopropylacrymide hydrogel promote its effects on structural and functional replacement of damaged myocardium tissue. Using Laccases in the Nanoflower to Synthesize Viniferin

The laccase-incorporated nanoflower was fabricated and characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). SEM images indicate that the laccase-incorporated nanoflower has a high surface area, which may facilitate the mass transfer of the substrate and the product. FTIR spectrums identify the existence of laccase in the nanoflowers. The novel immobilized laccase was used for the synthesis of viniferin. The reaction conditions had been
more &raquo; ... and the laccase-incorporated nanoflower can show its maximum specific activity (16.3 µmol/g/h) under the optimal reaction conditions. The specific activity of the laccase in the nanoflowers is enhanced about 2.2-fold compared with free laccase in solution without copper (II) ions. Furthermore, the laccase in the nanoflowers shows an increase in specific activity of~180% compared with free laccase in a solution containing high concentrations (similar to the concentration in the flower) of copper (II) ions. The results also indicate that the laccase in the nanoflowers retain 93.2% of its initial specific activity even after ten continuous batches. Enzyme immobilization can overcome these limitations [12] [13] [14] [15] . Besides increasing the enzyme reusability and stability, enzyme immobilization can also greatly improve the enzyme activity [16] [17] [18] . The specific activity of the organophosphorus hydrolase can be enhanced about 2.0-fold by entrapping it into the HOOC-functionalized mesoporous silica [19] [20] [21] . M. miehei lipase adsorbed on hydrophobic support is even 20 times more active than its free enzyme [22] . The specific activity of encapsulated β-galactosidase from Aspergillus oryzae increases 1.8-fold compared with the free enzyme [23] . In 2012, a simple and versatile immobilization technology was reported by Zare and his colleagues to gain hybrid organic-inorganic nanoflower composed by various proteins and Cu 3 (PO 4 ) 2 ·3H 2 O [24]. Such hybrid organic-inorganic nanoflowers use copper (II) ions as the inorganic component and various proteins as the organic component. The growth of nanoflower is dominated by the coordination between nitrogen atoms of the amide groups in the protein backbone and copper ions. The laccase-Cu 3 (PO 4 ) 2 ·3H 2 O nanoflowers were also obtained through this method [24] . When the enzyme was used as the protein component of the hybrid nanoflower, the enhanced specific activity and stability could be obtained [25] . In our previous work, we had successfully adopted this method to prepare a novel immobilized lipase for resolution of (R,S)-2-pentanol in organic solvents [26] and found that the lipase in the nanoflowers can exhibit perfect specific activity and excellent reusability. In this study, we prepared the laccase-incorporated nanoflower for efficiently synthesizing viniferin (Scheme 1). The fabricated laccase-incorporated nanoflower was characterized by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The reaction conditions for the synthesis of viniferin catalyzed by the immobilized laccase had been optimized and the reusability of the immobilized laccase had also been investigated.

One new ribonucleotide, 5′-(3′′-deoxy-β-D-ribofuranosyl)-3′-deoxyadenosine (1), and 14 known compounds (2–15) were isolated from an ethanol extract of Cordyceps militaris. The chemical structures of these compounds were determined from 1D and 2D NMR (1H-1H COSY, HMBC, HMQC and NOESY) and HR-ESI-MS spectra, and results were compared with data from the literature. Word spacing is an important indicator of word boundary in most alphabetic writing system such as English, as it can not only help readers to successfully segment each word from successive character strings in text but also help readers to acquire and recognise word. However, there is no clear word boundary information in Chinese reading, it is interesting to investigate whether it can facilitate word recognition or help readers to learn new word when providing word boundary information (i.e.
more &raquo; ... rd space) in Chinese reading. We reviewed the effect of word spacing on eye movement control during Chinese reading in adults, children and second language learners of Chinese. Based on the current findings reviewed in this paper, we provided some implications for constructing models of character and word recognition and eye movement control in Chinese reading, as well as prompting Chinese teaching proficiency.

Unsupervised Video Segmentation via Spatio-Temporally Nonlocal Appearance Learning [article]

Video object segmentation is challenging due to the factors like rapidly fast motion, cluttered backgrounds, arbitrary object appearance variation and shape deformation. Most existing methods only explore appearance information between two consecutive frames, which do not make full use of the usefully long-term nonlocal information that is helpful to make the learned appearance stable, and hence they tend to fail when the targets suffer from large viewpoint changes and significant non-rigid
more &raquo; ... rmations. In this paper, we propose a simple yet effective approach to mine the long-term sptatio-temporally nonlocal appearance information for unsupervised video segmentation. The motivation of our algorithm comes from the spatio-temporal nonlocality of the region appearance reoccurrence in a video. Specifically, we first generate a set of superpixels to represent the foreground and background, and then update the appearance of each superpixel with its long-term sptatio-temporally nonlocal counterparts generated by the approximate nearest neighbor search method with the efficient KD-tree algorithm. Then, with the updated appearances, we formulate a spatio-temporal graphical model comprised of the superpixel label consistency potentials. Finally, we generate the segmentation by optimizing the graphical model via iteratively updating the appearance model and estimating the labels. Extensive evaluations on the SegTrack and Youtube-Objects datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, which performs favorably against some state-of-art methods.

At the same time, recent rapid growth in mobile computing technologies enables telemedicine applications operations on mobile devices. The technologies and demands accelerated different kinds of home-based devices for the aged healthcare and medical treatment. Our focus is on the design of an information system for in-home healthcare, and a new household
more &raquo; ... ition terminal device which integrated electrocardiogram (ECG), blood oxygen, blood pressure and body temperature acquirement functions. A set-top box based manipulation method was adopted for operators, the physiological data could be acquired by the corresponding detectors. The parameters were collected and transmitted by set-top box and were received by the data server and sent to the medical staff of a hospital or healthcare center, professional healthcare advice or clinical diagnosis would be provided. Simultaneously, the collected parameters and the feedback clinic advice was stored on the servers which could be accessed by long distance clients such as a mobile smart phone user. The proposed system involved multiple physiologic parameters which led to great potential for universality, and in the terminal side the set-top box and IPTV screen shared scenario brought ease of use. Further progresses were made in the product upgrade because the shared IPTV screen was employed, which might be improved with the family demand. The acquirement instrument got a certification of China State Food and Drug Administration. The entire system was built for commercial achievements and the acquired data had great potential in disease screening and public hygiene research.

Prognostic Value of ANXA8 in Gastric Carcinoma

Gastric carcinoma (GC) remains one of the most common and deadly cancers worldwide. In China, the incidence and mortality rates related to GC were quite high. Annexin A8 (ANXA8) is a member of the annexins family of calcium-dependent membrane phospholipid binding proteins. According to recent research, the up-regulation of ANXA8 is closely associated with various types of tumors. However, the specific role of ANXA8 in GC remains unclear. In our study, we explored the prognostic value of ANXA8

Here, with the data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets (GSE19826 and GSE13861) analyzed, we further performed quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) using 58 pairs of fresh-frozen tissues. We also subjected 152 pairs of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded GC tumor tissues from patients, and the adjacent normal gastric tissues (ANGTs) to immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis. Hence, we found an elevated expression of ANXA8 in tumor tissues with bioinformatics analyses, qRT-PCR, western blot and IHC. Over-expression of ANXA8 was strongly correlated with TNM stages and differentiation grades. Kaplan-Meier and cox proportional-hazard analyses showed that the increased expression of ANXA8 was strongly associated with overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in GC patients. Moreover, we found that ANXA8 is an independent prognostic factor of GC patients' OS and DFS. In brief, those results suggest that ANXA8 can act as an oncogene of GC development and can serve as a potential prognostic biomarker for GC treatment.
