Guang Sun, Wanying Xing, Ren Xing, Liu Cong, Sun Tong, Siyao Yu
2017 Oncology Letters
The aim of the present study was to develop a water-soluble biomarker for the detection of breast cancer using quantum dots (QDs) conjugated to Ki-67, a nuclear protein associated with the cell cycle. Ki-67 is also a marker of cell proliferation, with expression levels categorizing good and poor prognosis in invasive breast cancer. Ki-67 is a clinically used biomarker for breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. Owing to the optical and chemical advantages of QDs, QD-based

In the present study, a biomarker was prepared by employing the water-soluble CuInS2/ZnS QDs conjugated to an anti-Ki-67 monoclonal antibody to detect Ki-67 expression in breast cancer. The QDs, which were hydrophobic and coated with octadecylamine, were encapsulated with an amphiphilic biocompatible centipede-like polymer, and then conjugated to anti-Ki-67 monoclonal antibodies (QD-Ki-67 probes). The QD-Ki-67 probes retained the original optical properties of the unadorned QDs and did not exhibit distinct toxic side effects in in vitro cytotoxicity experiments. Therefore, this CuInS2/ZnS QD-labeled bioprobe, with a high quantum yield and low cytotoxicity, is a promising candidate for bioimaging and may be used as a cell label.

Study of Birefringence and Stress Distribution of SiO2 Film Optical Waveguide on Silicon Wafer

Sun, Sun, Shang, Yu, Chang, Sun, Xing, Dong
2019 Coatings
Silica waveguide planar lightwave circuit (PLC) technology is driving the broad applications of various functional components to meet the increasing demands of the industry due to its advanced performance in large-scale wafer mass production. Despite the intense research interests in understanding and relaxing the stress causing the optical birefringence, not much research has been devoted to investigating the stress distribution. In this article, the thermal stress, growth-caused stress, and
more » ... ructural stress are comparably studied. The birefringence distribution of a 6 m-thick SiO2 film from the center to the edge on a 6-inch silicon wafer was measured to be 0.0006 to 0.0038, leading to an equivalent stress distribution cross the wafer from −170 to −1000 MPa. This implies that the compressive stress of the thick SiO2 film on the wafer was nonuniformly distributed; however, it gradually increased from the center to the edge. Meanwhile, the measured stress of a SiO2 film decreased with the flow rate of the doped GeH4 gas. The algebraic sum of the above three stresses reached excellent agreement with the measurement results in both distribution form and amplitude. In both research and production, the agreeable optical property distributions between the theoretical calculations and experimental measurements are more sustainable to further improving the yields of SiO2 thick film PLC products.

2018 Sensors
In recent years, terahertz imaging systems and techniques have been developed and have gradually become a leading frontier field. With the advantages of low radiation and clothing-penetrable, terahertz imaging technology has been widely used for the detection of concealed weapons or other contraband carried on personnel at airports and other secure locations. This paper aims to detect these concealed items with deep learning method for its well detection performance and real-time detection
more » ... . Based on the analysis of the characteristics of terahertz images, an effective detection system is proposed in this paper. First, a lots of terahertz images are collected and labeled as the standard data format. Secondly, this paper establishes the terahertz classification dataset and proposes a classification method based on transfer learning. Then considering the special distribution of terahertz image, an improved faster region-based convolutional neural network (Faster R-CNN) method based on threshold segmentation is proposed for detecting human body and other objects independently. Finally, experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method for terahertz image detection.

2013 International Journal of Energy Engineering
In comparison to hydraulic and electrical actuators, the significant drawback of pneumatic actuators is low energy conversion ability which is due to the open-circuit structure in nature. This paper represents a hybrid pneumatic-electrical system for the purpose of recycling exhaust compressed air energy from existing pneumatic actuator outlets to generate electricity. A proper control strategy is developed to manage the actuator system operation and to ensure the energy recovery work well. The

2015 Oncology Reports
β-asarone is the main volatile oil of Chinese herb Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii. It exhibits a wide range of biological activities in many human organs. However, few studies have investigated the effect of β-asarone on gastric cancer. The present study investigated the effect of β-asarone on the proliferation and apoptosis of three types of differentiated human gastric cancer cell lines (SGC-7901, BGC-823 and MKN-28) in vitro as well as the related molecular mechanisms. Methyl thiazolyl
more » ... assay, Annexin V/ PI double staining, immunofluorescence test and transmission electron microscopy all confirmed that β-asarone had an obvious dose-dependent inhibitive effect on the proliferation of human gastric cancer cells and induced apoptosis of the cell lines. Transwell invasion, wound-healing and matrix-cell adhesion experiments confirmed that β-asarone inhibited the invasion, migration and adhesion of human gastric cancer BGC-823 cells. Quantitative real-time PCR and western blotting found that β-asarone significantly activated caspase-3, caspase-8, caspase-9, Bax, Bak and suppressed Bcl-2, Bcl-xL and survivin activity. Moreover, β-asarone increased the expression of RECK, E-cadherin and decreased the expression of MMP-2, MMP-9, MMP-14 and N-cadherin. The present study demonstrated that β-asarone effectively inhibits the proliferation of human gastric cancer cells, induces their apoptosis and decreased the invasive, migratory and adhesive abilities.

RMNet: Equivalently Removing Residual Connection from Networks [article]

Fanxu Meng, Hao Cheng, Jiaxin Zhuang, Ke Li, Xing Sun
2021 arXiv   pre-print
Although residual connection enables training very deep neural networks, it is not friendly for online inference due to its multi-branch topology. This encourages many researchers to work on designing DNNs without residual connections at inference. For example, RepVGG re-parameterizes multi-branch topology to a VGG-like (single-branch) model when deploying, showing great performance when the network is relatively shallow. However, RepVGG can not transform ResNet to VGG equivalently because
more » ... rameterizing methods can only be applied to linear blocks and the non-linear layers (ReLU) have to be put outside of the residual connection which results in limited representation ability, especially for deeper networks. In this paper, we aim to remedy this problem and propose to remove the residual connection in a vanilla ResNet equivalently by a reserving and merging (RM) operation on ResBlock. Specifically, the RM operation allows input feature maps to pass through the block while reserving their information and merges all the information at the end of each block, which can remove residual connections without changing the original output. As a plug-in method, RM Operation basically has three advantages: 1) its implementation makes it naturally friendly for high ratio network pruning. 2) it helps break the depth limitation of RepVGG. 3) it leads to better accuracy-speed trade-off network (RMNet) compared to ResNet and RepVGG. We believe the ideology of RM Operation can inspire many insights on model design for the community in the future. Code is available at: https://github.com/fxmeng/RMNet.
