Highly tunable spin-polarized nonlinear Nernst effect [article]

The controllable generation of spin polarization is essential for spintronics, for which 3D topological insulators (TIs) are ideal candidate materials because of the fascinating spin-momentum locking of their topological surface states (TSSs). Here, we propose a band tilt-induced nonlinear Nernst effect (NLNE) in 3D TIs in the absence of magnetic field. It's found that the presence of finite band tilt can induce the imbalance of two spin carriers and give rise to spin-polarized NLNE current.
more » ... arkably, we show that, the realized carrier spin polarization exhibits highly flexible tuning regimes i.e. rapid and smooth tuning regimes, and near-unity spin polarization can be generated within a wide range of tunable parameters. The spin-polarized NLNE proposed here is also robust against temperature, thus providing an alternative mechanism to realize room-temperature high-degree spin polarization.

As a universal quantum character of quantum correlation, the freezing phenomenon is researched by geometry and quantum discord methods, respectively. In this paper, the properties of R'enyi discord is studied for two independent Dimer System coupled to two correlated Fermi-spin environments under the non-Markovian condition. We further demonstrate that the freezing behaviors still exist for R'enyi discord and study the effects of different parameters on this behaviors.

A new monoterpene-lactone with neuroprotective activity from corn silk

A new monoterpene-lactone (1) along with five known compounds (2–6) were isolated from corn silk. The structure of the new compound was elucidated based on comprehensive spectroscopic analyses and quantum chemical calculations of electronic circular dichroism (ECD) curves. All compounds were evaluated for their neuroprotective effects against H2O2-induced damage in human dopaminergic neuroblastoma cells (SH-SY5Y). As a result, compound 1 exhibited weak neuroprotective activity.

Two new daphnicyclidin-type Daphniphyllum alkaloids, daphmacrodins A and B (1 and 2) were isolated from the leaves and stems of Daphniphyllum macropodum. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic techniques, including 2D NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The relative configuration of 1 was further confirmed by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Their cytotoxic activities against five human cancer cell lines, pesticidal activities against brine shrimp (Artemia

The quasi-geostrophic theory is the theoretical basis of the short-term weather forecast. Quasi-geostrophic motion equations of mid-latitude synoptic -scale movement are the core of quasi-geostrophic theory. Based on baroclinic two-layer model, quasigeostrophic potential tendency equation and vertical motion equation can more clearly explain the movement and development of upper and surface weather systems. A case of snoptic system evolution demonstrates that quasi-geostrophic theory based on baroclinic two-layer model is conducive to the quick recognition of the characteristics of mid-latitude synoptic scale baroclinic development system, the understanding of the objective law of the development of the weather systems and the physical basis of numerical products.
