Using eye and mouse data, we show that the flow of user attention on nonlinear page layouts is different from the widely believed top-down linear examination order of search results.  ...  We present a lab study on the effect of a rich informational panel to the right of the search result column, on eye and mouse behavior.  ...  The search pages have the page areas of interest (AoIs) outlined, and regions outside AoIs dimmed. For the actual result pages presented to users, the AoIs were not visually marked in this way.  ...

participants' evaluation of the results presented in the search result interface of the Google search engine.  ...  The user study involved the completion of questionnaires, use of eye tracking technology, talk aloud protocols and post-search interviews.  ...  In particular, the researchers examined users' visual search behaviour for the period between the presentation of the search result page and users' first action (for example, selecting a result from the  ...

We explore four concepts of familiarisation, inspired by the human visual system (HVS), to automatically generate a familiar design for each user.  ...  In domains where users are exposed to large variations in visuo-spatial features among designs, they often spend excess time searching for common elements (features) in familiar locations.  ...  Among others, we thank Niraj Damaya for code related to overlap resolution, Markku Laine for his useful comments, and study participants for their time and involvement.  ...

By employing the "Eye tracking" method it is possible to objectively analyse the level of user perception of a multimedia content on a web site.  ...  What is the first thing observed by the user after opening the web site and how does he/she visually search the online content? By which methods can this be investigated subjectively and objectively?  ...  The users tend to search in this way, as they are aware that there is no 'penalty' for wrong assumption, i.e. that they can easily go back to the initial point of their search (home page).  ...
