CrowDSL: Platform for Incidents Management in a Smart City Context

Darío Rodríguez-García, Vicente García-Díaz, Cristian González García
2021 Big Data and Cognitive Computing
The final objective of smart cities is to optimize services and improve the quality of life of their citizens, who can play important roles due to the information they can provide. This information can be used in order to enhance many sectors involved in city activity such as transport, energy or health. Crowd-sourcing initiatives focus their efforts on making cities safer places that are adapted to the population size they host. In this way, citizens are able to report the issues they identify
more » ... ssues they identify to the relevant body so that they can be fixed and, at the same time, they can provide useful information to other citizens. There are several projects aimed at reporting incidents in a smart city context. In this paper, we propose the use of model-driven engineering by designing a graphical domain-specific language to abstract and improve the incident-reporting process. With the use of a domain-specific language, we can obtain several benefits in our research for users and cities. For instance, we can shorten the time for reporting the events by users and, at the same time, we gain an expressive power compared to other methodologies for incident reporting. In addition, it can be reused and is centered in this specific domain after being studied. Furthermore, we have evaluated the DSL with different users, obtaining a high satisfaction percentage.

The Importance of the Participatory Dimension in Urban Resilience Improvement Processes

Maria LopezDeAsiain, Vicente Díaz-García
2020 Sustainability
This article discusses the approach adopted by the researchers into citizen participation in urban regeneration actions and projects. It describes the concepts of sustainability and habitability in relation to the urban environment and architecture within the framework of improving the resilience of our cities through the circular economy and decarbonisation processes in architecture. The authors review the participatory dimension of different urban regeneration actions carried out in Spain and

They then define possible strategies and methodological tools for integrating this dimension into traditional urban regeneration processes. The article presents case studies and their specific characteristics, and draws conclusions about their effectiveness and relevance. It also compares citizen-led interventions with interventions led by public administrations. Lastly, the authors analyse the potential reasons for success in these processes and projects, identifying weaknesses and proposing possible strategies for future development by researchers.

Limited literature is available for bevacizumab exposure-response relationship and there is not a concentration threshold associated with an optimal disease control. This prospective observational study in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) aims to evaluate, in a real-life setting, the relationship between bevacizumab through concentrations at steady state (Ctrough, SS) and disease control. Ctrough, SS were drawn, coinciding with the radiological evaluation of the response
more » ... the response (progression or clinical benefit). Generalized estimating equations (GEE) analysis was performed. To test the association between Ctrough, SS in each patient with overall survival (OS) or progression-free survival (PFS), Cox proportional hazard models were developed. Data included 50 bevacizumab Ctrough, SS from 27 patients. The GEE model did not suggest any positive association between bevacizumab Ctrough, SS and clinical benefit (OR 0.99, 95% CI: 0.98-1.02, p = 0.863). The Cox regression showed association between higher median Ctrough, SS with better OS (HR 0.86, 95% CI: 0.73-1.01, p = 0.060), but not with PFS. We cannot confirm a relationship between bevacizumab Ctrough, SS and clinical benefit but this is the first real-world study trying to show a relationship between bevacizumab Ctrough, SS and disease control in mCRC. It was conducted in a small sample size which reduces the level of evidence. Further controlled randomized studies with a sufficient number of patients are required.

Decentralized Online Simultaneous Localization and Mapping for Multi-Agent Systems

Andrés Jiménez, Vicente García-Díaz, Rubén González-Crespo, Sandro Bolaños
2018 Sensors
Planning tasks performed by a robotic agent require previous access to a map of the environment and the position where the agent is located. This creates a problem when the agent is placed in a new environment. To solve it, the RA must execute the task known as Simultaneous Location and Mapping (SLAM) which locates the agent in the new environment while generating the map at the same time, geometrically or topologically. One of the big problems in SLAM is the amount of memory required for the
more » ... required for the RA to store the details of the environment map. In addition, environment data capture needs a robust processing unit to handle data representation, which in turn is reflected in a bigger RA unit with higher energy use and production costs. This article presents a design for a system capable of a decentralized implementation of SLAM that is based on the use of a system comprised of wireless agents capable of storing and distributing the map as it is being generated by the RA. The proposed system was validated in an environment with a surface area of 25 m 2 , in which it was capable of generating the topological map online, and without relying on external units connected to the system.

Surgical treatment of rectovaginal endometriosis with rectal involvement

Vicente Payá, Juan José Hidalgo-Mora, Cesar Diaz-Garcia, Antonio Pellicer
2011 Gynecological Surgery
Rectovaginal endometriosis (RVE) is one of the most serious and incapacitating forms of presentation of this disease. Traditionally, medical treatment has not been considered effective for the majority of patients, being surgery the only reasonable and therapeutic choice in these cases. This exposes patients to a potentially serious morbidity, thus a careful evaluation should be done by a surgical board considering the impact of the disease as well as the quality of life of the patients. The

The main surgical techniques used are the shaving of the rectal wall affected by the endometriosic implants, the discoid excision of the front rectal wall, and the segmental intestinal resection, and there is no consensus concerning which is the most effective and suitable between them. The bibliography published in the last 10 years relating to the surgical treatment of RVE is being reviewed with the intention of updating the knowledge base about the topic and looking for common ground between different studies, allowing us to come closer to reaching a consensus about treatment for this pathology.
