Tensile Properties in β-Modified Isotactic Polypropylene
[chapter]
2018
Polypropylene [Working Title]
Spherulitic isotactic polypropylenes (iPPs) having a wide range of β-phase contents were prepared by adding β-nucleators, and the effects of the β-phase modification on the mechanical properties of the iPP were investigated. This chapter described the tensile properties of β-nucleated iPP, while key structural parameters, such as spherulite size and crystallinity, were controlled. The increase in the β-phase content led to broader yield peaks and an enhancement in the yield toughness but to a

... duction in the yield strength. On the other hand, the initial elastic modulus was found to be independent of the β-contents. Furthermore, the deformation of the β-spherulites, which have a sheaflike structure, was anisotropic and depended on the stretching direction with respect to the sheaf axis. Consequently, the improved drawability and ductility of β-iPP compared to α-iPP are thus associated with the enhanced toughness resulting from the multiple deformation processes in the sheaflike spherulites.

Primary Extramedullary Plasmacytoma of the Lung
1992
Internal medicine (Tokyo. 1992)
A case with primary plasmacytoma of the lung is described. The patient, a 55-year-old Japanese female, who simultaneously had a pulmonary plasmacytoma and bladder carcinoma. The bladder tumor was treated with transurethral resection. Pathologically, the bladder tumor was a non-invasive, papillary transitional cell carcinoma, grade II. The lung tumor was located in the right upper lobe and upper lobectomy was performed. The tumor measured 2.8 X 2.7 X 2.0 cm and had a white-yellowish cut surface.

... Histologic, electron microscopic and immunohistochemical examinations of the lung tumor revealed monoclonal proliferation of plasma cells (IgA, lambda light chain). There was no evidence of multiple myeloma.

Interstitial pneumonia associated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer
2013
Molecular and clinical oncology
Interstitial pneumonia (IP) is a critical adverse event that may occur during anticancer chemotherapy. Physicians should be aware of the possibility of IP, particularly when dealing with patients on neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) since delays in diagnosis and treatment interfere with the scheduled operation. In our institution, fluorouracil, epirubicin and cyclophosphamide (FEC) followed by weekly paclitaxel is the standard NAC regimen for operable breast cancer cases. In the present study, 95

... atients with breast cancer were treated with this regimen, 5 of whom (5.3%) developed IP during NAC. All 5 cases were diagnosed when anticancer therapy was withdrawn and steroid pulse therapy was initiated. Consequently, the standard operation was immediately performed. In conclusion, physicians should be aware that IP may occur at any point during NAC and that it should be immediately diagnosed and treated to avoid delay of the therapeutic plan.
Alveolar soft part sarcoma metastatic to the breast: a case report
2019
BMC Surgery
Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is an extremely rare neoplasm that tends to occur in the lower limbs of children and adolescents. Metastatic breast tumors constitute 0.5-2.0% of all malignant mammary neoplasms, and cases of ASPS with mammary metastases are very rare. Case presentation: Three years ago, an 11-year-old girl presented to the hospital with pain in the right jaw after becoming aware of a mass in the right cheek. After detailed examination, the patient was diagnosed with ASPS with

... he primary tumor in the right cheek and multiple lung metastases, and chemotherapeutic treatment was initiated. One year later, accumulation of fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) was observed in the right front of the skull (standardized uptake value (SUV)-max 2.8) and left breast (SUV-max 2.4) using FDG-positron emission tomography (PET) / computed tomography (CT). Ultrasonography revealed the mammary tumor as a hypoechoic, internally heterogeneous mass measuring 22.4 × 16.2 × 21.1 mm with a rich blood supply. Using pathological findings of core-needle biopsy, we diagnosed it as ASPS. Based on the above information, we made a diagnosis of ASPS with left mammary and cranial metastases. Due to chemoresistance, surgical excision was selected as the mode of treatment; resection of the metastatic cranial bone was performed first, and partial mastectomy of the left breast was performed in two stages. Postoperative conditions were good, and we are currently performing regular follow-ups (visual palpation every 3 months and semi-annual mammary gland ultrasonography). Conclusions: We have reported an extremely rare case of ASPS with mammary metastasis with some reference-based discussion. In our case, disease control was obtained by a combination of drug therapy and surgical treatment.
Multicentre, phase II study of eribulin in combination with S-1 in patients with advanced breast cancer
2019
BMC Cancer
We previously reported the synergistic effect of S-1 and eribulin in preclinical models. In addition, our phase I study revealed the recommended dose for the phase II study of the combination therapy in advanced breast cancer (ABC) patients pre-treated with anthracycline and taxane. Our current study reports on the efficacy and safety of the combined use of eribulin and S-1 in patients with ABC and poor prognosis. Patients with breast cancer who received prior anthracycline- and/or taxane-based

... therapy were assigned to receive a combination therapy of eribulin (1.4 mg/m2 on days 1 and 8, every 21 days) and S-1 (65 mg/m2, on days 1 to 14, every 21 days) for advanced/metastatic disease. All patients had at least one clinicopathological factor such as being oestrogen receptor negative, Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2) receptor negative, presence of visceral involvement, presence of three or more metastatic sites, or having a disease-free interval shorter than 2 years. The primary endpoint was the independent-reviewer assessed objective response rate (ORR). Secondary endpoints were clinical benefit rate, disease control rate, progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS). This study enrolled 33 patients. Confirmed ORR was 33.3% (95% CI: 17.3 to 52.8). Median PFS was 7.5 months (95% CI: 4.0 to 14.3). Median OS time was not reached during the current experimental periods. The most common grade 3/4 adverse event was neutropenia (68.8%). The combination of eribulin and S-1 is safe and effective for treatment in patients with ABC and poor prognosis. Abscessing Bronchioloectasia with Elements of Plasma Cell Granuloma
1993
Internal medicine (Tokyo. 1992)
A 79-year-old male was admitted to the hospital with the complaint of bloody sputum. Chest X-ray revealed an abnormal shadow in the right upper lobe. Macroscopically, the lesion measured about 3.5x2.5x2.0 cm with a central cavity containing pus. Histologically, the lesion was composed of interlacing fibroblastic proliferation with abundant plasma cell infiltration and central cavitation. The inner surface of the cavity wall was partially covered by bronchial epithelial cells; there was no

... age found, suggesting that the lesion had developed from chronic inflammatory processes in relation to ectatic bronchioles. Since the pathogenesis of plasma cell granuloma (PCG) has not been well established, it is probable that this case represents one stage in the development of classic PCG.
