... method model of the multiple valve plates in the shock absorber is built using Abaqus considering the non-liner features in the deformation of the valve plates. The deformation curve with varied force applied on the valve plates is acquired in abaqus. Further, an advanced simulation model focusing on the entire shock absorber system is built in AMESim using the data gathered in the previous simulation in Abaqus. The simulation indicates that the velocity performance curve and the indicator diagram acquired from the model fit well compared with those from the testing data, and the simulation model is considered to be correct and meets actual requirements. In the last part, the affection on the performance of the shock absorber caused by gas resilience, piston aperture and liquid-filled piping is studied, and several important conclusions are reached. The simulation model can be used as a performance forecast and key parameters design of the shock absorber.

Feed represents the major cost of chicken production. Selection for improving feed utilization is a feasible way to reduce feed cost and greenhouse gas emissions. The objectives of this study were to investigate the efficiency of genomic prediction for feed conversion ratio (FCR), residual feed intake (RFI), average daily gain (ADG) and average daily feed intake (ADFI) and to assess the impact of selection for feed efficiency traits FCR and RFI on eviscerating percentage (EP), breast muscle

... entage (BMP) and leg muscle percentage (LMP) in meat-type chickens. Genomic prediction was assessed using a 4-fold cross-validation for two validation scenarios. The first scenario was a random family sampling validation (CVF), and the second scenario was a random individual sampling validation (CVR). Variance components were estimated based on the genomic relationship built with single nucleotide polymorphism markers. Genomic estimated breeding values (GEBV) were predicted using a genomic best linear unbiased prediction model. The accuracies of GEBV were evaluated in two ways: the correlation between GEBV and corrected phenotypic value divided by the square root of heritability, i.e., the correlation-based accuracy, and model-based theoretical accuracy. Breeding values were also predicted using a conventional pedigreebased best linear unbiased prediction model in order to compare accuracies of genomic and conventional predictions. The heritability estimates of FCR and RFI were 0.29 and 0.50, respectively. The heritability estimates of ADG, ADFI, EP, BMP and LMP ranged from 0.34 to 0.53. In the CVF scenario, the correlation-based accuracy and the theoretical accuracy of genomic prediction for FCR were slightly higher than those for RFI. The correlation-based accuracies for FCR, RFI, ADG and ADFI were 0.360, 0.284, 0.574 and 0.520, respectively, and the model-based theoretical accuracies were 0.420, 0.414, 0.401 and 0.382, respectively. In the CVR scenario, the correlation-based accuracy and the theoretical accuracy of genomic prediction for FCR was lower than RFI, which was different from the CVF scenario. The correlation-based accuracies for FCR, RFI, ADG and ADFI were 0.449, 0.593, 0.581 and 0.627, respectively, and the model-based theoretical accuracies were 0.577, 0.629, PLOS ONE | MS, et al. (2017) Assessment of the genomic prediction accuracy for feed efficiency traits in meat-type chickens. PLoS ONE 12(3): e0173620. Technology Research System (nycytx-42, http:// www.moa.gov.cn/), the Science and Technology Program of Guangzhou (201504010017, http:// www.gzsi.gov.cn/) and the Dean Fund of Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Science (201618,http://www.gdaas.cn). The funders had no role in study design, data collection and analysis, 0.631 and 0.638, respectively. The accuracies of genomic predictions were 0.371 and 0.322 higher than the conventional pedigree-based predictions for the CVF and CVR scenarios, respectively. The genetic correlations of FCR with EP, BMP and LMP were -0.427, -0.156 and -0.338, respectively. The correlations between RFI and the three carcass traits were -0.320, -0.404 and -0.353, respectively. These results indicate that RFI and FCR have a moderate accuracy of genomic prediction. Improving RFI and FCR could be favourable for EP, BMP and LMP. Compared with FCR, which can be improved by selection for ADG in typical meat-type chicken breeding programs, selection for RFI could lead to extra improvement in feed efficiency. Genomic prediction for feed efficiency traits in chickens PLOS ONE | FCR = feed conversion ratio, RFI = residual feed intake, EP = eviscerating percentage, BMP = breast muscle percentage, LMP = leg muscle percentage. * Significantly different from 0 at P<0.05.

OsGRAS23, a rice GRAS transcription factor gene, is involved in drought stress response through regulating expression of stress-responsive genes
2015
BMC Plant Biology
Drought is a major abiotic stress factors that reduces agricultural productivity. GRAS transcription factors are plant-specific proteins that play diverse roles in plant development. However, the functions of a number of GRAS genes identified in rice are unknown, especially the GRAS genes related to rice drought resistance have not been characterized. Results: In this study, a novel GRAS transcription factor gene named OsGRAS23, which is located in a drought-resistant QTL interval on chromosome

... 4 of rice, was isolated. The expression of OsGRAS23 was induced by drought, NaCl, and jasmonic acid treatments. The OsGRAS23-GFP fused protein was localized in the nucleus of tobacco epidermal cells. A trans-activation assay in yeast cells demonstrated that the OsGRAS23 protein possessed a strong transcriptional activation activity. OsGRAS23-overexpressing rice plants showed improved drought resistance and oxidative stress tolerance as well as less H 2 O 2 accumulation compared with the wild-type plants. Furthermore, microarray analysis showed that several anti-oxidation related genes were up-regulated in the OsGRAS23-overexpressing rice plants. The yeast one hybrid test indicated that OsGRAS23 could bind to the promoters of its potential target genes. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that OsGRAS23 encodes a stress-responsive GRAS transcription factor and positively modulates rice drought tolerance via the induction of a number of stress-responsive genes.

Relationship between serum inhibitory activity for IgE and efficacy of Artemisia pollen subcutaneous immunotherapy for allergic rhinitis: a preliminary self-controlled study
2020
Allergy, Asthma & Clinical Immunology
Biomarkers of clinical efficacy for subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) on allergic rhinitis (AR) have not been identified yet. This study aims to assess the clinical relevance of serum inhibitory activity for IgE by the method of enzyme-linked immunosorbent facilitated antigen binding (ELIFAB) during SCIT for Artemisia-sensitized AR patients. 19 AR patients were studied who had undergone Artemisia-specific SCIT for more than 8 months (19.68 months on average, ranging from 9 to 33 months).

... ral bloods were collected before and after treatment. The serum inhibitory activity for IgE was tested by ELIFAB and the level of Artemisia-specific IgG4 (Artemisia-sIgG4) was determined by ELISA. Clinical improvement was evaluated based on the symptom scores and rescue medication use (SMS). The 2-tailed Wilcoxon signed-rank test and the Spearman rank test (two-tailed) were used to analyze data by using SPSS 20.0, with P values of less than 0.05 considered as significant. The SMS decreased significantly after SCIT (before: 12.79 ± 4.250, after: 6.11 ± 3.828, P = 0.000 < 0.01), the treatment was remarkably effective for 6 patients, effective for 10 and ineffective for 3, along with a total effective rate 84.21%. The serum inhibitory activity for IgE increased significantly after SCIT (P < 0.05) and was correlated with the levels of Artemisia-sIgG4 (r = - 0.501, P = 0.002 < 0.01). The levels of Artemisia-sIgG4 elevated dramatically after treatment (P < 0.01) and were related with the duration of treatment (r = 0.558, P = 0.000 < 0.01). But there was no relationship between clinical improvements and the serum inhibitory activity for IgE. The serum inhibitory activity for IgE increased significantly after SCIT, however, there was no correlation between it and clinical improvements by statistics analysis. So whether the serum inhibitory activity for IgE can act as biomarker of efficacy for SCIT or not needs to be studied further.

Ultra-Pulsed CO2 Laser Osteotomy: A New Method for the Bone Preparation of Total Knee Arthroplasty
2022
Cementless total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can achieve long-term biological fixation, but its application is limited by the risk of early aseptic loosening. One of the important reasons for early aseptic loosening is that mechanical osteotomy tools cannot achieve ideal bone preparation because of poor accuracy and serious bone tissue damage produced by them. Therefore, we designed an ultra-pulsed CO2 laser osteotomy system to solve these problems. To reveal the safety at the tissue and cell

... of the ultra-pulsed CO2 laser osteotomy system, a series of experiments on distal femur osteotomy in animals were performed. Then, the bone surface characteristics were analyzed through scanning electron microscopy, and the bone thermal and mechanical damage was evaluated via histological analysis. Finally, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were inoculated on the bone surfaces prepared by the two osteotomy tools, and the effect of cell adhesion was analyzed through a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). We successfully achieved TKA bone preparation of animal knees with the ultra-pulsed CO2 laser osteotomy system. Moreover, the biological evaluation results indicated that compared with the traditional mechanical saw, the laser can preserve the natural bone structure and cause no thermal damage to the bone. In addition, CLSM examination results showed that the laser-cut bone surface was more conducive to cell adhesion and infiltration than the bone surface cut by a mechanical saw. Overall, these results indicate that ultra-pulsed CO2 laser can achieve non-invasive bone cutting, which can be a new option for TKA bone preparation and has the potential to lead in the future.
