Interstitial Chemotherapy for Malignant Gliomas
[chapter]
2016
Neurooncology - Newer Developments
Glioma is the most common primary tumor in the central nervous system (CNS). Even with aggressive treatments, gliomas remain as one of the most devastating tumors. Chemotherapy through oral administration of temozolomide (TMZ) is currently the standard regimen for malignant gliomas. However, the systemic toxicity and drug resistance are frequently observed in glioma patients. In order to improve the efficacy and minimize side effects, multiple strategies have been developed. ... erapy is a promising one. By directly delivering chemotherapeutic agents in tumor bed, interstitial chemotherapy bypasses the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and therefore achieves a higher concentration with less systemic exposure. In this chapter, we will have a thorough review on the development and the application of interstitial chemotherapy in gliomas, with the focus on the biomaterial-based and convection-enhanced delivery system. In addition, the future of interstitial chemotherapy is also be shortly discussed. Interstitial Chemotherapy for Malignant Gliomas http://dx.doi.org/10.5772/62838 required. In addition, novel methods such as micro-chips and gene delivery is under investigation (80). In a word, interstitial chemotherapy conveys the opportunity of more efficiently and effectively delivering anti-glioma agents to the infiltrative tumors than conventional routes of administration.

Does Corporate Governance Have a Say on Dividends in Australian Listed Companies?
2021
Australasian Accounting, Business and Finance Journal
This paper investigates whether corporate governance has an impact on dividend policy in Australian listed firms. The empirical studies of corporate governance and dividend policy in the Australian context tend to have a limited scope and the findings are mixed. Unlike the existing literature, this paper provides a more comprehensive examination of the relationship between dividend policy and corporate governance mechanisms. Using a sample of 1,438 firm-year observations for the period of 2005

... o 2011 and the panel data approach, this study finds that dividend payout is significantly positively (negatively) correlated with board size, board independence, institutional ownership and use of a Big-4 audit firm (CEO duality and managerial ownership). Moreover, dividend yield is significantly positively (negatively) correlated with managerial ownership (foreign ownership). These findings suggest that dividend policy and corporate governance mechanisms are complementary i.e. firms paying higher dividends are more likely to engage in good governance practices as well as having strong monitoring and control systems in place and therefore both dividend policy and corporate governance are considered as effective tools in reducing agency costs.

Method Based on SEFT-to-Petri for Safety Analysis of Software
2018
MATEC Web of Conferences
System safety is a vital non-functional requirement whose satisfaction is essential for system software. However, modern aerospace system software is more and more complicated, which results in a high complexity of analyzing system faults. With the increased acceptance of Model-based Systems Engineering as a new method for systems engineering, Model-based Safety Analysis is also proposed to formalize the task of safety analysis and automate the safety calculations. Our work is grounded on

... Event Fault Tree to analyze system faults and build functional model. Firstly, we can translate SEFT to state machine based on SysML with fault syntactic messages and match elements together with translating logic gates; after which, transforming state machine into Petri Net model by means of rigorous semantic relations to extract preliminary analytical model is deduced theoretically in this paper; finally, we can derive analyses of causes and results of faults from Petri Net model by adopting a set of mathematical and statistical analysis. Practically, we have also validated our work by a case study of an aeronautic control system to support this paper.
Full-vectorial analysis of the directional couplers in horizontal multiple-slotted silicon wires with trapezoidal cross-section
2012
Wuli xuebao
Directional couplers are basic components for forming various kinds of photonic devices. In this paper, a directional coupler composed of two horizontal multiple-slotted waveguide structures with slanted sidewalls is characterized by using a full-vectorial finite element method in terms of the electric fields. The effective indexes of the even and the odd modes and the corresponding coupling lengths, both in quasi-TE and quasi-TM modes, are presented, where the strongly-hybrid nature of the

... ed-mode is effectively demonstrated. The results show that the coupling lengths in quasi-TE and quasi-TM modes exponentially increase with the increase of the gap between the coupled waveguides, where the value in quasi-TE mode is more sensitive to the variation of the angle of the sidewall, while the value in quasi-TM mode is more sensitive to variation of the height and the index of the slot. Properly choosing the structure and material parameters, polarization-independent directional couplers can be realized.

Gaze-following is an effective way for intention understanding in human–robot interaction, which aims to follow the gaze of humans to estimate what object is being observed. Most of the existing methods require people and objects to appear in the same image. Due to the limitation in the view of the camera, these methods are not applicable in practice. To address this problem, we propose a method of gaze following that utilizes a geometric map for better estimation. With the help of the map,

... method is competitive for cross-frame estimation. On the basis of this method, we propose a novel gaze-based image caption system, which has been studied for the first time. Our experiments demonstrate that the system follows the gaze and describes objects accurately. We believe that this system is competent for autistic children's rehabilitation training, pension service robots, and other applications.
