Mobility as a Service

Rob Christiaanse
2019 Companion Proceedings of The 2019 World Wide Web Conference on - WWW '19
MAAS as a mobility model leans on the idea that a gap between private and public transport systems needs to be bridged as well as on a city, intercity, national and supranational level. The current situation is felt problematic due to the fragmented tools and services often organized in silos to meet a traveler needs to undertake a trip. One of the major concerns designing any platform system like Mobility as a Service is where to start modeling and how to express the notion of the platform

Understandability buttresses the expectation of stakeholders whether some design will probably implement the intended platform services enabling users to actually buy and or use the platform system for what ever purpose. Building on the economic theories of two-sided markets and mechanism design we introduce the concept of value nets extending the Contract Protocol Net. Value net modeling offers a precise abstract representation which provides in the detailed informational requirements in a canonical form and it connects i.e. implements the abstract notion of Service Oriented Architecture characterizing systems without loss of crucial informational elements.

Control Automation to Reduce Costs of Control [chapter]

Rob Christiaanse, Joris Hulstijn
2012 Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing
Much compliance effort concerns adherence to contracts. Parties to a contract need to make sure the other party fulfills the contract. To this end they may require additional controls in the business process. Controls have costs. In this paper we argue that fully automated controls help to lower control costs, because (i) the can help prevent misstatements (compliance by design) or (ii) they increase the quality of audit evidence and thereby reduce the audit risk and additional audit fees. The

Characterizing Artificial Socio-Cognitive Technical Systems

Rob Christiaanse, Aditya Ghose, Pablo Noriega, Munindar P. Singh
2014 European Conference on Social Intelligence
This paper is an invitation to examine a class of socio-technical systemsartificial socio-cognitive (ASCS)-whose distinctive nature is that they may involve humans as well as artificial agents who interact in a regulated milieu. We propose a characterization of these ASCS and build on that characterization to describe how these systems evolve.

Integrity of Supply Chain Visibility: Linking Information to the Physical World [chapter]

2012 Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing
Regulatory compliance in international trade can be enhanced by facilitating electronic exchange of trade documents to increase the supply chain visibility. Crucial for acceptance of the supply chain visibility concept is trust in the reliability of the data. This depends on both the integrity of information (no data is altered illicitly) and integrity of the flow of goods (no goods are unknowingly added or taken away). The challenge is to determine how these concepts of integrity are

First, only trusted traders take part. Second, technical control measures ensure internal consistency of the information system, i.e., the system maintains integrity constraints based on a model of the transactions taking place. Third, physical and organizational control measures mitigate the risk that events in the real world do not correspond to the reported transactions. The usefulness and adequacy of the approach is illustrated with two case studies: the use of electronic seals in the Smart-CM project, and the use of biometrics for authentication in the E-Link project at Schiphol Airport, the Netherlands.

Process-Aware Information Systems (PAIS) support organizations in managing and automating their processes. A full automation of processes is in particular industries, such as service-oriented markets, not practicable. The integration of humans in PAIS is necessary to manage and perform processes that require human capabilities, judgments and decisions. A challenge of interdisciplinary PAIS research is to provide concepts and solutions that support human integration in PAIS and human orientation

This work is an initial step of research that aims at providing a definition of Human-Centric Process Aware Information Systems (HC-PAIS) and future research challenges of HC-PAIS. Results of focus group research are presented.
