2018 arXiv   pre-print
This note is an expanded and updated version of our entry with the same title for the 2006 Encyclopedia of Mathematical Physics. We give a brief overview of graded Poisson algebras, their main properties and their main applications, in the contexts of super differentiable and of derived algebraic geometry.

2014 2014 IEEE International Parallel & Distributed Processing Symposium Workshops
Harnessing the full capabilities offered by reconfigurable hardware is still a demanding task: the lack of proper methodologies and the intrinsic time consuming and error prone tailoring of these systems around the specific application places a barrier to the adoption of this technology. Partial and Dynamic Reconfiguration (PDR), in this context, is a specific feature whose potential is undiscussed but yet to uncover. In this work, we propose PaRA-Sched, an improvement for a state of the art,
more » ... state of the art, highly automated design methodology that allows the designer to rapidly explore the impact of PDR employment during the early stages of the design process. Specifically, we extend the scheduling infrastructure of the framework to explicitly take into account PDR to better explore the design space and improve overall performance by automatically masking reconfiguration time when possible. We show how this additional degree of freedom leads to designs whose performance are improved with respect to the baseline, with a limited increase in time spent during DSE.

2011 Radiation Oncology
To analyse limits and capabilities in dose calculation of collapsed-cone-convolution (CCC) algorithm implemented in helical tomotherapy (HT) treatment planning system for thorax lesions. Methods: The agreement between measured and calculated dose was verified both in homogeneous (Cheese Phantom) and in a custom-made inhomogeneous phantom. The inhomogeneous phantom was employed to mimic a patient's thorax region with lung density encountered in extreme cases and acrylic inserts of various
more » ... s of various dimensions and positions inside the lung cavity. For both phantoms, different lung treatment plans (single or multiple metastases and targets in the mediastinum) using HT technique were simulated and verified. Point and planar dose measurements, both with radiographic extended-dose-range (EDR2) and radiochromic external-beamtherapy (EBT2) films, were performed. Absolute point dose measurements, dose profile comparisons and quantitative analysis of gamma function distributions were analyzed. Results: An excellent agreement between measured and calculated dose distributions was found in homogeneous media, both for point and planar dose measurements. Absolute dose deviations <3% were found for all considered measurement points, both inside the PTV and in critical structures. Very good results were also found for planar dose distribution comparisons, where at least 96% of all points satisfied the gamma acceptance criteria (3%-3 mm), both for EDR2 and for EBT2 films. Acceptable results were also reported for the inhomogeneous phantom. Similar point dose deviations were found with slightly worse agreement for the planar dose distribution comparison: 96% of all points passed the gamma analysis test with acceptable levels of 4%-4 mm and 5%-4 mm, for EDR2 and EBT2 films respectively. Lower accuracy was observed in high dose/low density regions, where CCC seems to overestimate the measured dose around 4-5%. Conclusions: Very acceptable accuracy was found for complex lung treatment plans calculated with CCC algorithm implemented in the tomotherapy TPS even in the heterogeneous phantom with very low lung-density.

On the Hochschild-Kostant-Rosenberg map for graded manifolds [article]

Alberto S. Cattaneo, Domenico Fiorenza, Riccardo Longoni
2005 arXiv   pre-print
We show that the Hochschild-Kostant-Rosenberg map from the space of multivector fields on a graded manifold N (endowed with a Berezinian volume) to the cohomology of the algebra of multidifferential operators on N (as a subalgebra of the Hochschild complex of the algebra of smooth functions on N) is an isomorphism of Batalin-Vilkovisky algebras. These results generalize to differential graded manifolds.

Despite the impressive progress in nucleoside chemistry to date, the synthesis of nucleoside analogues is still a challenge. Chemoenzymatic synthesis has been proven to overcome most of the constraints of conventional nucleoside chemistry. A purine nucleoside phosphorylase from Aeromonas hydrophila (AhPNP) has been used herein to catalyze the synthesis of Ribavirin, Tecadenoson, and Cladribine, by a "one-pot, one-enzyme" transglycosylation, which is the transfer of the carbohydrate moiety from
more » ... ydrate moiety from a nucleoside donor to a heterocyclic base. As the sugar donor, 7-methylguanosine iodide and its 2′-deoxy counterpart were synthesized and incubated either with the "purine-like" base or the modified purine of the three selected APIs. Good conversions (49–67%) were achieved in all cases under screening conditions. Following this synthetic scheme, 7-methylguanine arabinoside iodide was also prepared with the purpose to synthesize the antiviral Vidarabine by a novel approach. However, in this case, neither the phosphorolysis of the sugar donor, nor the transglycosylation reaction were observed. This study was enlarged to two other ribonucleosides structurally related to Ribavirin and Tecadenoson, namely, Acadesine, or AICAR, and 2-chloro-N6-cyclopentyladenosine, or CCPA. Only the formation of CCPA was observed (52%). This study paves the way for the development of a new synthesis of the target APIs at a preparative scale. Furthermore, the screening herein reported contributes to the collection of new data about the specific substrate requirements of AhPNP.

Traditionally, hypervisors, operating systems, and runtime systems have been providing an abstraction layer over the bare-metal hardware. Traditional abstractions, however, do not consider for nonfunctional requirements such as system-level constraints or users' objectives. As these requirements are gaining increasing importance, researchers are looking into making user-specified and systemlevel objectives first-class citizens in the computer systems' realm. This paper describes the Autonomic

With AcOS, we investigate intelligent resource allocation to achieve user-specified service-level objectives on application performance and to respect system-level thresholds on CPU temperature. We give a broad overview of AcOS, elaborate on its achievements, and discuss research perspectives.

The continuous strive for improvements in visual realism is progressively increasing the complexity of algorithms for simulating light physics to produce very realistic scenes. As a result, they are becoming more and more suitable for hardware acceleration, even if they introduce new challenges due to the high requirements in terms of resources. In this paper we propose a hardware implementation of the raytracing algorithm, which is a method for rendering 3D scenes. We exploit partial dynamic
