Association of lumbar spine mobility and hamstring tightness in dental practitioners

S. Divyashri, Lavanya Prathap, S Preetha
2021 Biomedicine
Introduction and Aim: The decrease in lumbar spine mobility and hamstring tightness can be caused due to the lack of regular exercise and awkward postures exposed at the workplace due to an individual's occupation. It can be expressed due to the awkward posture during dental practice as well and this can be controlled by doing regular exercises. The aim of the present study is to analyze the association of lumbar spine mobility and hamstring tightness in dental practitioners. Materials and
more » ... s: The study is conducted in a Private dental college and hospital for the dental practitioners who work for more than 4 hours in a day. The hamstring tightness is measured using the goniometer and lumbar spine flexibility is measured using an inch tape. The measurements are tabulated and analyzed statistically for the correlation of lumbar spine flexibility with hamstring tightness using the SPSS tool. Results: The collected data are analyzed statistically using correlation coefficient and the findings concluded that they have a low positive correlation. The mean value of lumbar flexion range is 19.37 cm and mean value of the hamstring tightness is 27.8°, the correlation coefficient r is 0.473. Majority of female participants have increased hamstring tightness with a maximum range of 30° and around 11% of male participants have a restriction range of 25°. Similarly, around 8% of female participants have a lumbar flexion range of around 21cm, However, there is no significant difference between the gender in both the variables with p value equals 0.35 and 0.53 (p > 0.05) respectively. Conclusion: From the obtained results it can be concluded that there is a low positive correlation between hamstring tightness and the lumbar flexion range. The findings suggest that the dental practitioners are prone to hamstring tightness which in turn can induce reduced lumbar spine mobility and impacts stress on the lumbar spine leading to low back pain.

An empirical analysis of service quality factors pertaining to ocean freight forwarding services

S. Subhashini, S. Preetha
2018 Maritime Business Review
Purpose -The service sector is the key driver of a country's economic growth. The quality of service is more important for the survival of any organization. It is the interactive process by which the organization understands the customer and satisfies their needs. The main purpose of this study is to identify the factors influencing service quality in ocean freight forwarding and to study the association between the factors. Design/methodology/approach -This research uses a deductive approach,
more » ... hich understands the theory first and collects the data. A questionnaire is designed to collect the data. The sampling technique used is two-stage sampling. First, the freight forwarders are selected and then the customers, importers and exporters are selected randomly. Likert scales are used to measure quality factors such as tangibility, reliability, responsibility, value, empathy and assurance. The association of factors is empirically evaluated. The SPSS tool is used for the correlation analysis. Findings -An extensive review of the literature has been done to study and identify these service quality factors influencing customer satisfaction and loyalty. The result of this extensive literature review revealed that tangibility, responsiveness, reliability, trust, empathy and value are the service quality. It has been proved that there exists a significant association between the service quality factors and is positively related to the customer satisfaction. Originality/value -Some studies have examined the freight forwarders' service quality, but not specifically related to any dimension. This study attempts to bring together the five dimensions of SERVQUAL scale and the value dimension evaluating the cost, freight charges, safety and security criteria in the industry and examines the association between the quality factors and customer satisfaction.

Investigation On Recycled Glass As A Replacement For Fine Aggregate In Concrete

S. Dinesh, R. Preetha, M. Subhi
2017 Zenodo
Waste management is becoming a major issue for communities worldwide. Glass, being non-biodegradable, is not suitable for addition to landfill and such recycling opportunities need to investigate. Continuous use of natural resources since ages has been depleting them at an alarming rate. Natural sand is the best form of the fine aggregate used in concrete till now. But continuous sand mining results in impure water in river which leads to an environment disaster. In the search for the

Among these materials like waste glass can be an effective replacement for fine aggregate. This project studies the suitability of crushed glass as a possible substitute for conventional fine aggregate. Experimental investigation was carried out to evaluate the properties of concrete mixture in which the fine aggregate was replaced with the crushed glass in 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% & 100% by weight. Mechanical properties like compressive strength and tensile strength were determined at an age of 28 days. The test results indicate when crushed glass used as fine aggregate enhances the strength properties of concrete. It is found that 60% fine glass and 40% natural is the optimum proportion.
