... hree quarters of the study population were males. History of raw milk consumption and animal contact were seen in 41.7% and 12.5% respectively. The main presenting features of our cohort were fever, chills and sweating (93.1%, 62.5% and 58.3% respectively). Positive antibody titre (.1:160) was detected in 95.8% and positive blood culture was reported in 63.9% of the cohort. Splenomegaly was observed in 19.4%, hepatomegaly in 15.3% and lymphadenopathy in 9.7% of the cases. Approximately half of our patients were treated with a combination of doxycycline and streptomycine and nearly one quarter received doxycycline and rifampicine combination therapy. Conclusions: Brucellosis is an important public health problem worldwide. It is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. It may affect any organ system and can present with a variety of clinical features. Diagnosis of brucellosis requires serological tests with or without blood culture. Treatment with at least two antibiotics for six weeks or more appears to be effective.

Accuracy Improvement for Predicting Parkinson's Disease Progression
2016
Scientific Reports
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a member of a larger group of neuromotor diseases marked by the progressive death of dopamineproducing cells in the brain. Providing computational tools for Parkinson disease using a set of data that contains medical information is very desirable for alleviating the symptoms that can help the amount of people who want to discover the risk of disease at an early stage. This paper proposes a new hybrid intelligent system for the prediction of PD progression using noise

... removal, clustering and prediction methods. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Expectation Maximization (EM) are respectively employed to address the multi-collinearity problems in the experimental datasets and clustering the data. We then apply Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) and Support Vector Regression (SVR) for prediction of PD progression. Experimental results on public Parkinson's datasets show that the proposed method remarkably improves the accuracy of prediction of PD progression. The hybrid intelligent system can assist medical practitioners in the healthcare practice for early detection of Parkinson disease. Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a degenerative neurological disorder marked by decreased dopamine levels in the brain 1-3 . PD is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder following Alzheimer's disease 4-8 . This disease is primarily characterized by four symptoms: tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia, and postural instability 9,10 . Though these symptoms present in varying degrees and combinations for different individuals, they are chronic and degenerative, progressively worsening over time. PD causes motor symptoms and non-motor symptoms that can affect the quality of daily life 3,11 . It has been shown that approximately 90% of the patients with PD show vocal impairment that includes impairment in the normal production of vocal sounds, which is dysphonia 12,13 . Recent studies have also shown that there is an association between the cumulative number of risk alleles and the risk of having PD 10,14 . The disease has influenced about 1-2% of people in the worldwide over 60 years of age 15 . From the literature [16] [17] [18]

DEEP LEARNING-BASED CANCER CLASSIFICATION FOR MICROARRAY DATA: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW
2021
Zenodo
Deep neural networks are robust techniques and recently used extensively for building cancer classification models from different types of data. Nowadays, microarray gene expression datasets consider an essential source of data that is used in cancer classifications. However, due to the small size of samples compared to the high dimensionality of microarray data, many machine learning techniques have failed to distinguish the most relevant and informatics genes. Therefore, deep learning is

... d due to its ability to automatically discovering the complex relationship between features with significant accuracy and high performance. The current study aims to reveal the state-of-the-art of deep neural network architectures and how it can utilize from microarray data. Therefore, several deep neural network architectures were built such as CNN, DNN, RNN, DBN, DBM and DAE to be compatible with the different learning processes (supervised, unsupervised and semi-supervised). As a result, CNN considers the most common neural network architecture used in the medical field due to its robustness and high performance in cancer classification. Results indicate that choosing suitable architecture of the deep neural network and its hyper-parameters is one of the most difficulties facing the researcher in designing models for cancer prediction and classification because there is no particular rule to ensure high prediction accuracy.

Retention of fiber posts to the optimally and over-prepared dowel spaces
2013
The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics
PURPOSE. To assess the retention of glass fiber post cemented with self-adhesive resin cement into optimum and over-prepared root canals following obturation in the presence of either eugenol (EB) or calcium hydroxide (CB)based sealers. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Roots of extracted premolars were endodontically-treated in 5 groups (n = 10). Roots of Group 1 (control) were left with no obturation and then optimally prepared to receive endodontic dowels. Other root canals were obturated with

... cha in the presence of either eugenol-based (Groups 2 and 4) or calcium hydroxide-based (Groups 3 and 5) sealer. Dowel spaces were prepared with optimal diameter in Groups 2 and 3, one size larger in Groups 4 and 5. Standardized fiber posts were luted to the prepared spaces using self-adhesive resin cement and itsretention was then tested on an universal testing machine. Both one-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD comparisons (α=0.05) were used to identifythe significance of inter-group retention differences. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of both optimally and over-prepared dowel spaces was also considered to figure the nature of their interior out. RESULTS. The post retention was significantly higher to the non-obturated, optimally-prepared dowel spaces of Group 1 compared to the obturated, optimally-prepared ones of Groups 2 and 3. For each dowel space diameter, root canals obturated using CB of Groups 3 and 5 showed significantly higher dowel retention compared to those obturated using EB of Groups 2 and 4. Post retention to the over-prepared dowel spaces of Groups 4 and 5 was significantly higher than that recorded for the optimally-prepared ones of Groups 1-3. SEM images revealed traces of endodontic sealer and gutta-percha on the walls of the optimally-prepared dowel spaces. CONCLUSION. Despite the adverse effect of endodontic sealers on the retention of fiber posts, the over-preparation of dowel spaces helps to improve the retention. [ J Adv Prosthodont 2013;5:16-20]

Issues in implementing a scientific data Grid based on Peer-to-Peer architecture
2006
2006 International Conference on Computing & Informatics
Grid and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks enable the sharing and aggregation of geographically distributed resources. Grids mostly deals with large computational problems and provide geographically distributed resources for large-scale data-intensive applications that generate large data sets, whereas P2P provides a way for sharing huge volumes of data. In a modern scientific computing, the communities of researchers involves in organizing, moving, visualizing, and analyzing massive amounts of a

... large data collections in a geographically distributed environment. Research in the area of grid and P2P computing; have given us various ideas and solutions to address the problems. One of the most challenging issues in grid computing that address above requirements is locating and sharing remote data. In this paper, we illustrate the idea of using P2P approach for locating and sharing data in scientific data grid environment through our P2P Scientific Data Grid Framework.

... an terkini.
