Jun Zhang, Jun-Yang Xu, Dun-Qiu Wang, Nan-Qi Ren
2015 BioResources
The effectiveness of sludge inocula from a municipal carrousel oxidation ditch wastewater treatment plant was studied for both batch and semicontinuous anaerobic digestion (AD) of cassava pulp. In 1.25-L batch experiments, the following sludge inocula were used: I1 sludge from the hydrolysis acidification tank pre-acclimated with cassava pulp; I2, predigested sludge from the hydrolysis acidification tank; and I3, predigested sludge from the gravity thickening tank. In 1.0-L semicontinuous
more » ... mesophilic AD of cassava pulp inoculated with I3 was carried out at organic matter loading rates (OLRs) of 1.5 to 12.5 kg volatile solids (VS)/(m 3 d), whereas 1.5 to 18.0 kgVS/(m 3 d) was used for thermophilic AD. For batch operations, all sludge types could be used as the inoculum for the mesophilic AD of cassava pulp, whereas only I1 was used for thermophilic AD. The maximum specific methane yields were 0.333 and 0.395 m 3 /kgVSadded, respectively, for mesophilic and thermophilic batch digestion with I1. During semi-continuous AD of cassava pulp inoculated with I3, high specific methane yields of 0.334 to 0.336 m 3 /kgVSadded were obtained under both mesophilic and thermophilic conditions. For thermophilic AD of cassava pulp with sludge inocula, the range of optimum OLR was 2.5 to 15.0 kgVS/(m 3 d), and that was 2.5 to 8.7 kgVS/(m 3 d) for mesophilic AD.

2011 IPSJ Online Transactions
GMount is a high-performance distributed file system with locality-aware metadata lookups and small installation effort. GMount organizes computer nodes in a decentralized hierarchical overlay to unify separate local file systems into a global shared namespace and achieve locality-aware metadata lookups. GMount offers not only better performance when application executes with considerable data access locality, but also the ability to effortlessly and rapidly enable data sharing among clusters,

Yong Zhang, Dun-wei Gong, Xiao-yan Sun, Yi-nan Guo
2017 Scientific Reports
Feature selection is an important data preprocessing technique in multi-label classification. Although a large number of studies have been proposed to tackle feature selection problem, there are a few cases for multi-label data. This paper studies a multi-label feature selection algorithm using an improved multi-objective particle swarm optimization (PSO), with the purpose of searching for a Pareto set of non-dominated solutions (feature subsets). Two new operators are employed to improve the

One operator is adaptive uniform mutation with action range varying over time, which is used to extend the exploration capability of the swarm; another is a local learning strategy, which is designed to exploit the areas with sparse solutions in the search space. Moreover, the idea of the archive, and the crowding distance are applied to PSO for finding the Pareto set. Finally, experiments verify that the proposed algorithm is a useful approach of feature selection for multi-label classification problem. 2017 Oncology Letters
Lung cancer is a type of malignant tumor derived from the respiratory system, which is the leading cause of cancer-associated mortality worldwide, of which ~80% of cases are attributable to non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A previous study demonstrated that 1α,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D 3 (1α,25(OH) 2 D 3 ), derived from the vitamin D metabolic pathway contributes an antitumor effect.

2015 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility
Background/Aims Increasing evidence shows involvement of psychological disorders in functional dyspepsia (FD), but how psychological factors exert their influences upon FD remains largely unclear. The purpose of the present study was to explore the brain-based correlations of psychological factors and FD. Methods Based on Fluorine-18-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography, the altered cerebral glycometabolism was investigated in 40 FD patients compared with 20 healthy

Results FD patients exhibited increased glucose metabolism in multiple regions relative to controls (P < 0.001, family-wise error corrected). After controlling for the dyspeptic symptoms, increased aberrations persisted within the insula, anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), middle cingulate cortex (MCC) and middle frontal cortex (midFC), which was related to anxiety and depression score. Interestingly, FD patients without anxiety/depression symptoms also showed increased glycometabolism within the insula, ACC, MCC and midFC. Moreover, FD patients with anxiety/depression symptoms exhibited more significant hypermetabolism within the above 4 sites compared with patients without anxiety/depression symptoms.

Psoas hematoma as a rare complication of posterior lumbar interbody fusion: a case report

Bo Deng, Hai Nan Hong, Xin Bing Feng, Zheng Hua Hong, Guo Ping Cai, Dun Hong
2020 BMC Surgery
Background Psoas hematoma rarely occurs in patients with spondylolisthesis who undergo posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) surgery. Case presentation Here we reported a case of a 57-year-old male patient diagnosed with spondylolisthesis who underwent PLIF at the local hospital. Seven days post-surgery, abdominal pain occurred, and the pain in the right lower limb gradually increased. The computerized tomography (CT) indicated a formation of hematoma around the psoas muscle.
more » ... ion angiography (DSA) suggested a vascular injury, a rupture of the right segmental artery of the lumbar vertebral level 4. The patient then received DSA vascular embolization, after which the lower lumbar segmental artery active bleeding was stopped. One month after discharge, the abdominal hematoma was gradually absorbed, and the pain in the waist, leg, and abdomen disappeared. Conclusion Symptoms such as abdominal pain, abdominal distension, and exacerbation of lower limb pain, may suggest the occurrence of psoas hematoma after PLIF. DSA vascular embolization is suggested as the first treatment approach for this type of complication.

2016 Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology
The aim of this study was to isolate antioxidant peptides from an enzymatic hydrolysate of Spirulina platensis. A novel antioxidant peptide was obtained by ultrafiltration, gel filtration chromatography, and reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, with the 1,1diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay used to measure the antioxidant activity, and the sequence was determined to be Pro-Asn-Asn (343.15 Da) by electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. This
more » ... e was synthesized to confirm its antioxidant properties, and it exhibited 81.44 ± 0.43% DPPH scavenging activity at 100 µg/ml, which was similar to that of glutathione (82.63 ± 0.56%). Furthermore, the superoxide anion and hydroxyl free-radical scavenging activities and the SOD activity of the peptide were 47.84 ± 0.49%, 54.01 ± 0.82%, and 12.55 ± 0.75%, respectively, at 10 mg/ml. These results indicate that S. platensis is a good source of antioxidant peptides, and that its hydrolysate may have important applications in the pharmaceutical and food industries.

2005 Asian-Australasian Journal of Animal Sciences
The proximate analysis, amino acid content and true amino acid digestibility and TMEn for poultry of adult Field crickets Gryllus testaceus Walker, were investigated. The insect was also used as partial replacement of protein supplements in the broiler diet on an equal CP percentage and TMEn basis. The results indicated that the adult insect contained: crude protein 58.3%; fat 10.3%, chitin 8.7% and ash 2.96% on dry matter basis, respectively. The total amounts of methionine, cystine and lysine

When cornsoybean meal diets were formulated on an equal CP percentage and TMEn basis, up to 15% Field cricket could replace control diet without any adverse affects on broiler weight gain, feed intake or gain:feed ratio from 8 to 20 d posthatching.
