Opioids are effective analgesics for the management of moderate to severe cancer pain. Here we show that k opioid receptor (KOR) agonists act as anti-angiogenic factors in tumors. Treatment with KOR agonists, U50,488H and TRK820, significantly inhibited human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) migration and tube formation by suppressing VEGFR2 expression. In contrast, treatment with a m opioid receptor agonist, DAMGO, or a d opioid receptor agonist, SNC80, did not prevent angiogenesis in
more » ... VECs. Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) or B16 melanoma grafted in KOR knockout mice showed increased proliferation and remarkably enhanced tumor angiogenesis compared with those in wild type mice. On the other hand, repeated intraperitoneal injection of TRK820 (0.1-10 mg/kg, b.i.d.) significantly inhibited tumor growth by suppressing tumor angiogenesis. These findings indicate that KOR agonists play an important role in tumor angiogenesis and this knowledge could lead to a novel strategy for cancer therapy.

Energy Absorption Performance of Press-formed Shell

Zubair Bin Khalil, Minoru Yamashita, Yusuke Kuno, Toshio Hattori
2014 Procedia Engineering
Flat top and hemispherical shaped shells made by press forming were deformed by indentation using flat or round headed indentor. Effect of the shell shape, sheet thickness, indentor shape and the speed on the deformation behavior was investigated. The material was mild steel SPCE or aluminum alloy A5052. Speed effect of SPCE on the indentation force became remarkably large, when the indenting or loading direction was reversed to that in the forming. It was small for A5052 material. Energy

The energy absorption efficiency was highest for case of the flat top shell indented by flat headed indentor. Almost constant collapse force was obtained when the spherical shell was deformed with hemispherical indentor.

Fretting fatigue life estimations based on fretting mechanisms

Toshio Hattori, Vu Trung Kien, Minoru Yamashita
2011 Tribology International
Generally the fretting fatigue S-N curve has two regions: one is the high cycle (low stress) region and the second is the low cycle (high stress) region. In a previous paper we introduced the fretting fatigue life estimation methods in high cycle region by considering the wear process; with this estimation method the fretting fatigue limit can be estimated to be the crack initiation limit at the contact edge. In this paper we estimate the low cycle fretting fatigue life based on a new critical
more » ... istance theory, modified for a high stress region using ultimate tensile strength s B and fracture toughness K IC . The critical distance for estimating low cycle fretting fatigue strength was calculated by interpolation of the critical distance on the fretting fatigue limit (estimated from s w0 and DK th ) with critical distance on static strength (estimated from s B and K IC ). By unifying this low cycle fretting fatigue life estimation method with the high cycle fretting fatigue life estimation method, which was presented in the previous paper, we can estimate the total fretting life easily. And to confirm the availability of this estimation method we perform the fretting fatigue test using Ni-Mo-V steel.

1997 Geochemical Journal
Molar absorption coefficients of water in glasses of arc magma compositions have been determined for -2.8 pm, -2.2 pm, and -1.9 pm bands. Excellent agreement was found between the water contents calculated from the absorption peak heights and those determined by H2 manometry when the following molar absorption coefficients (m3/mol m) are used for different glass compositions: E2 .8,um = 6.4 f 0.1, E2.2pm = 0.085 ± 0.007, and E1 .9,4m = 0.084 ± 0.006 for tholeiite and high-Al basalt glasses; E2

1992 Neurologia medico-chirurgica
A basic and clinical study of radiosurgery using the linear accelerator (Linac) system for unremovable deep-seated brain tumors is reported. A Komai stereotactic ring was used to locate the target coor dinates. The patient was laid on the Linac treatment table and held in the head fixation system. Irradia tion was given in five positions. The dose profile by film dosimetry and Rando phantom was satisfac tory. Seventeen tumors in 14 patients were treated. Clinical or histological diagnoses were

Computed tomographic evaluation after 3 months of 12 tumors in 11 survivors showed one complete remission, three partial remission, six no change, and two partial deterioration. For progressive tumors, Linac radiosurgery results are excellent.

2018 Proceedings (MDPI)
Vibration mode of piezoelectric ultrasonic microsensors was investigated on buckled diaphragm structures from the viewpoint of higher order vibration modes than the fundamental one. Several vibration modes were generated on the diaphragms as the response to an ultrasound pulse, and their natural frequencies changed with increasing the buckling deflection in different rates. The natural frequencies of some modes approached each other, and the modes were accordingly superposed and degraded into a

Prediction of Tool Fracture in Punching of Thick Steel Plate

2020 Sensors and materials
The sensing of acoustic emission (AE) is efficiently used for the detection of the crack initiation of brittle materials and defects in plastic forming and other manufacturing processes. We carried out circular hole punching tests using carbon steel S45C plates of 5 or 6 mm thickness. The objective was to capture the occurrence of cracks as a predictive phenomenon of punch fracture and their propagation during punching by using an AE sensor. The impulsive stress acting on the punch due to the
more » ... dden drop in punch force at the fracture of the plate was also measured using strain gages. This stress induced fracture at the stepped portion of the punch. The maximum tensile stress of the punch depended on the fillet radius at the stepped portion. A reciprocal punching test using both plates alternately was performed to evaluate the detection of crack initiation using an AE waveform. Features in the AE waveform due to crack initiation and the frictional behavior of the crack were captured.

Fretting Fatigue Strength and Life Estimation Considering the Fretting Wear Process [chapter]

Toshio Hattori, Naoya Nishimura, Minoru Yamashita
2007 Key Engineering Materials
In this paper we present the estimation methods of fretting wear process and fretting fatigue life using this wear process. Firstly the fretting-wear process was estimated using contact pressure and relative slippage. And then the stress intensity factor for cracking due to fretting fatigue was calculated by using contact pressure and frictional stress distributions, which were analyzed by the finite element method. The S-N curves of fretting fatigue were predicted by using the relationship
more » ... een the calculated stress intensity factor range (∆K) with the threshold stress intensity factor range (∆Kth) and the crack propagation rate (da/dN) obtained using CT specimens of the material. Finally fretting fatigue tests were conducted on Ni-Cr-Mo-V steel specimens. The S-N curves of our experimental results were in good agreement with the analytical results obtained by considering fretting wear process. Using these estimation methods we can explain many fretting troubles in industrial fields.
