Opioids are effective analgesics for the management of moderate to severe cancer pain. Here we show that k opioid receptor (KOR) agonists act as anti-angiogenic factors in tumors. Treatment with KOR agonists, U50,488H and TRK820, significantly inhibited human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) migration and tube formation by suppressing VEGFR2 expression. Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) or B16 melanoma grafted in KOR knockout mice showed increased proliferation and remarkably enhanced tumor angiogenesis compared with those in wild type mice. On the other hand, repeated intraperitoneal injection of TRK820 (0.1-10 mg/kg, b.i.d.) significantly inhibited tumor growth by suppressing tumor angiogenesis. These findings indicate that KOR agonists play an important role in tumor angiogenesis and this knowledge could lead to a novel strategy for cancer therapy.
Flat top and hemispherical shaped shells made by press forming were deformed by indentation using flat or round headed indentor. Effect of the shell shape, sheet thickness, indentor shape and the speed on the deformation behavior was investigated. The material was mild steel SPCE or aluminum alloy A5052. Speed effect of SPCE on the indentation force became remarkably large, when the indenting or loading direction was reversed to that in the forming. It was small for A5052 material. Molar absorption coefficients of water in glasses of arc magma compositions have been determined for -2.8 pm, -2.2 pm, and -1.9 pm bands. A basic and clinical study of radiosurgery using the linear accelerator (Linac) system for unremovable deep-seated brain tumors is reported. A Komai stereotactic ring was used to locate the target coor dinates. The patient was laid on the Linac treatment table and held in the head fixation system. Irradia tion was given in five positions. Computed tomographic evaluation after 3 months of 12 tumors in 11 survivors showed one complete remission, three partial remission, six no change, and two partial deterioration. For progressive tumors, Linac radiosurgery results are excellent.

Vibration mode of piezoelectric ultrasonic microsensors was investigated on buckled diaphragm structures from the viewpoint of higher order vibration modes than the fundamental one. Several vibration modes were generated on the diaphragms as the response to an ultrasound pulse, and their natural frequencies changed with increasing the buckling deflection in different rates. The sensing of acoustic emission (AE) is efficiently used for the detection of the crack initiation of brittle materials and defects in plastic forming and other manufacturing processes. The maximum tensile stress of the punch depended on the fillet radius at the stepped portion. A reciprocal punching test using both plates alternately was performed to evaluate the detection of crack initiation using an AE waveform. Features in the AE waveform due to crack initiation and the frictional behavior of the crack were captured.

In this paper we present the estimation methods of fretting wear process and fretting fatigue life using this wear process. Using these estimation methods we can explain many fretting troubles in industrial fields.
