Quantum response theory for nonequilibrium steady states
[article]
2018

We develop a general framework for the steady-state response of dissipative quantum systems. We concretely derive three different, but equivalent, forms of the quantum response function. We discuss for each of them the role of the noncommutativity of quantum operators and establish links to the Kubo response theory for closed quantum systems. We show in particular that the equilibrium response vanishes for perturbations that commute with the unperturbed Hamiltonian while the steady-state

Nonequilibrium information erasure below kTln2

Landauer's principle states that information erasure requires heat dissipation. Landauer's original result focused on equilibrium memories. We here investigate the reset of information stored in a nonequilibrium state of a symmetric two-state memory. We derive a nonequilibrium generalization of the erasure principle and demonstrate that the corresponding bounds on work and heat may be reduced to zero. We further introduce reset protocols that harness the initial preparation energy and entropy

Clones from ideals

On an infinite base set X, every ideal of subsets of X can be associated with the clone of those operations on X which map small sets to small sets. We continue earlier investigations on the position of such clones in the clone lattice.

An adaptable and extensible geometry kernel
2007
Computational geometry
Geometric algorithms are based on geometric objects such as points, lines and circles. The term Kernel refers to a collection of representations for constant-size geometric objects and operations on these representations. This paper describes how such a geometry kernel can be designed and implemented in C++, having special emphasis on adaptability, extensibility and efficiency. We achieve these goals following the generic programming paradigm and using templates as our tools. These ideas are
