Citrulinemia Clinical, laboratory and follow up feolures of three patients whith Citrulinemia lhat was identified at ages three months, seven days and seven months are described. Generalized quantifiers allow to decrease the outermost character of the universal and existential quantifiers. Concept-forming operators in Formal Concept Analysis have a universal character. As a consequence, some noise in the data can dramatically alter the final result. This paper introduces a first approximation to quantified formal-concept operators with the main goal of decreasing this universal character and be less sensitive to noisy data.

Irreducible elements in multi-adjoint concept lattices

One of the most important elements in a lattice are the irreducible elements. For example, when the lattice is finite, which is usual in the computational case, it forms a base from which the complete lattice is obtained. These elements are also important in Formal Concept Analysis, since they are the basic information of a relational system. In the general fuzzy framework of multi-adjoint concept lattices, this paper presents a characterization of the irreducible elements and so, a mechanism

Caracterización anatómica y conductividad hidráulica teórica de los elementos de vaso de variedades silvestres y cultivadas de nopal tunero (Opuntia)

Se estudió la morfología y la conductancia hidráulica teórica de elementos de vaso del xilema en cladodios de especies y variedades cultivadas y silvestres de nopal (Opuntia spp.) colectados en las regiones semiáridas de los estados de Jalisco y Zacatecas, con el fin de investigar si las diferencias en la resistencia a la sequía que se observan comúnmente en el campo entre especies silvestres y cultivadas de Opuntia pueden estar relacionadas con divergencias en la densidad, la anatomía de los
more » ... sos y en la conductividad hidráulica. Adicionalmente se investigó si existen diferencias en el grado de especialización del xilema entre variedades cultivadas y silvestres. Nuestras observaciones mostraron que en la especie cultivada Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Mill. (variedades amarilla montesa, picochulo, chapeada, pelón liso, burrona y cristalina), así como en las silvestres O. streptacantha Lem. (variedades cardón y charola), O. robusta Wendl. (variedades tapón y tapón de mayo) y O. cochinera Griff., es más frecuente encontrar elementos de vaso con engrosamientos escalariformes y alternos, que los provistos de engrosamientos helicoidales. Las plantas estudiadas no mostraron diferencias morfológicas que indicaran un mayor grado de especialización en las características morfológicas registradas en los elementos de vaso. Los caracteres morfológicos de los elementos de vaso, y los de conductividad hidráulica, no revelan diferencias que puedan ayudar a explicar la mayor resistencia a la sequía en las especies silvestres de nopal en comparación con las cultivadas.

Coffee is an important, high-value crop because its roasted beans are used to produce popular beverages that are consumed worldwide. Coffee plantations exist in over 70 countries and constitute the main economic activity of approximately 125 million people. Currently, there is global concern regarding the excessive use of agrochemicals and pesticides in agriculture, including coffee crops. This situation has motivated researchers, administrators, and farmers to seek ecologically friendly
more » ... tives to decrease the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. In the last decades, multiple studies of the rhizosphere, at the chemical, physical and biological levels, have improved our understanding of the importance of beneficial microorganisms to plant health and growth. This review aims to summarize the state of the use of plant growth-promoting microorganisms (PGPM) in coffee production, where the most extensively studied microorganisms are beneficial plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). This review also contains information on PGPM, in regard to plantations at different latitudes, isolation techniques, mass multiplication, formulation methods, and the application of PGPM in nurseries, monoculture, and coffee agroforestry systems. Finally, this review focuses on relevant research performed during the last decade that can help us improve sustainable coffee production.

Ursolic and oleanolic acids as antimicrobial and immunomodulatory compounds for tuberculosis treatment

New alternatives for the treatment of Tuberculosis (TB) are urgently needed and medicinal plants represent a potential option. Chamaedora tepejilote and Lantana hispida are medicinal plants from Mexico and their hexanic extracts have shown antimycobacterial activity. Bioguided investigation of these extracts showed that the active compounds were ursolic acid (UA) and oleanolic acid (OA). Methods: The activity of UA and OA against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv, four monoresistant strains, and
more » ... two drug-resistant clinical isolates were determined by MABA test. The intracellular activity of UA and OA against M. tuberculosis H37Rv and a MDR clinical isolate were evaluated in a macrophage cell line. Finally, the antitubercular activity of UA and OA was tested in BALB/c mice infected with M. tuberculosis H37Rv or a MDR strain, by determining pulmonary bacilli loads, tissue damage by automated histomorphometry, and expression of IFN-γ, TNF-α, and iNOS by quantitative RT-PCR. Results: The in vitro assay showed that the UA/OA mixture has synergistic activity. The intracellular activity of these compounds against M. tuberculosis H37Rv and a MDR clinical isolate in a macrophage cell line showed that both compounds, alone and in combination, were active against intracellular mycobacteria even at low doses. Moreover, when both compounds were used to treat BALB/c mice with TB induced by H37Rv or MDR bacilli, a significant reduction of bacterial loads and pneumonia were observed compared to the control. Interestingly, animals treated with UA and OA showed a higher expression of IFN-γ and TNF-α in their lungs, than control animals. Conclusion: UA and OA showed antimicrobial activity plus an immune-stimulatory effect that permitted the control of experimental pulmonary TB.
