Thermal Effusivity Calibration Procedure for Thermal Microscope

Shugo Miyake, Tetsuya Ohtsuki, Takaaki Awano, Kimihito Hatori, Makoto Sekine
2019 Sensors and materials
In this paper, a thermal effusivity calibration procedure is proposed using a numerical calculation and measurement of a phase lag of a thermoreflectance signal based on a periodic modulation thermoreflectance method for a thermal microscope. To improve the accuracy of the estimated thermal effusivity, the profile determination of the heating and probing laser beams and the numerical calculation of phase lags with a two-layer model in a threedimensional heat conduction equation are carried out.
more » ... Results of the experiments of beam profile determination and numerical calculation showed that the estimated values of thermal effusivities are in good agreement with the standard values of silicon, germanium, and Pyrex ® samples. We are convinced that the use of a thermal microscope with numerical calibration is becoming an accurate and precise thermal property measurement technique for the microscale range.

2009 Journal of Communications
Progress of digital wireless communications and recent trends in standardizations are reviewed, addressing the main features and driving factors of innovations. This progress is driven by research on information theory, inventions of communication technologies, and advances in semiconductor technologies. Trends of technology integration and system integration are observed. It is also observed that innovations have been done in a concatenated manner; innovative systems and technologies are

2005 Internal medicine (Tokyo. 1992)
A 49-year-old man presented with fever and uremic symptoms such as general malaise, leg edema and decreased urine output. He was diagnosed as having infective endocarditis (IE) accompanied by renal failure. Although he had been receiving hemodialysis for a long time, renal function dramatically improved after heart valve replacement. This case suggests that uremia can develop as an initial manifestation of IE and removal of an infected heart valve can improve renal function despite persistent

2003 Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science
PURPOSE. To study local retinal cone function in patients with X-linked retinoschisis (XLRS) by multifocal ERGs (mfERGs). METHODS. mfERGs were recorded from seven eyes of seven patients with XLRS (mean age Ϯ SD, 22.1 Ϯ 3.2 years; range, 18 to 25 years). Five eyes had microcystic changes in the macula and two eyes had nonspecific macular degeneration. Two eyes had peripheral retinoschisis, and some of the stimuli fell on this area. The stimulus array consisted of 103 hexagons and the total
more » ... ing time was set at approximately 4 minutes. The amplitudes and implicit times of both focal and summed responses for the first-and second-order kernels were analyzed. RESULTS. The amplitudes of the first-order kernel were markedly reduced in the central retina in all eyes. A large variation was observed in the amplitudes outside the fovea. The amplitudes of the focal cone ERGs at the peripheral retinoschisis did not differ from those recorded from adjacent retinal loci without the retinoschisis. The implicit times of the first-order kernel were significantly delayed, and the amplitudes of the secondorder kernels were more affected than the first-order kernels across the whole field in all XLRS eyes. CONCLUSIONS. The cone-mediated retinal responses were more impaired in the central than peripheral retina in eyes with XLRS. Delayed implicit times of the first-order kernel and reduced second-order kernel across the whole testing field in all XLRS eyes suggest that there is widespread cone-system dysfunction in XLRS. CARCINOGENICITY IN THE HAMSTER OF SIMULTANEOUSLY ADMINISTERED 2-ACETAMIDOFLUORENE AND 3-METHYLCHOLANTHRENE

Makoto ENOMOTO, Masashi MIYAKE, Kei SATO
1968 GANN
Synopsis The comparative carcinogenicities of 2-acetamidofluorene, 3-methylcholanthrene, and 2-acetamidofluorene plus 3-methylcholanthrene in the hamster were investigated. Unlike the case with rats, no inhibition of tumor induction was observed when 3-methylcholanthrene was fed to hamsters simultaneously with 2-acetamidofluorene. Combined feeding of 2-acetamidofluorene and 3-methylcholanthrene resulted in adenocarcinoma of the intrahepatic bile ducts, pancreatic adenocarcinoma, and mesenterial
more » ... sarcomas, while benign cystadenomas of the intrahepatic bile ducts were the only tumors observed in the hamsters fed 2-acetamidofluorene alone. Analyses for urinary metabolites of 2-acetamidofluorene revealed relatively little effect of 3-methylcholanthrene when fed simultaneously with 2-acetamidofluorene. Likewise, the continuous administration of 3-methylcholanthrene in the diet simultaneously with 2-acetamidofluorene caused no increase in the hepatic Nhydroxylation activity in vitro as compared to that of hamsters fed only one of these compounds. One possible explanation of the synergistic action of the combined feeding of 2-acetamidofluorene and 3-methylcholanthrene in producing tumors in extrahepatic tissues is that dietary 3-methylcholanthrene enhances the N-hydroxylation of 2-acetamidofluorene in these tissues.

We evaluated use of the oral age index to determine the status of oral health in the community. We compared the actual age and oral age of residents in each community. The oral age index is a total assessment of a person's oral health based on the number of sound teeth and the health of the periodontal tissues, An oral age younger than the actual age is desirable. We surveyed 7,456 people in 24 districts of Osaka City and 31 towns in Osaka Prefecture, We concluded that the oral age index is
