Streptomyces as Potential Synthetic Polymer Degraders: A Systematic Review

2021 Bioengineering
The inherent resistance of synthetic plastics to degradation has led to an increasing challenge of waste accumulation problem and created a pollution issue that can only be addressed with novel complementary methods such as biodegradation. Since biocontrol is a promising eco-friendly option to address this challenge, the identification of suitable biological agents is a crucial requirement. Among the existing options, organisms of the Streptomyces genus have been reported to biodegrade several

Therefore, this systematic review aimed to evaluate the potential of Streptomyces strains for the biodegradation of synthetic plastics. The results showed that although Streptomyces strains are widely distributed in different ecosystems in nature, few studies have explored their capacity as degraders of synthetic polymers. Moreover, most of the research in this field has focused on Streptomyces strains with promising biotransforming potential against polyethylene-like polymers. Our findings suggest that this field of study is still in the early stages of development. Moreover, considering the diverse ecological niches associated with Streptomyces, these actinobacteria could serve as complementary agents for plastic waste management and thereby enhance carbon cycle dynamics.

Design of passive heat sinks to power semiconductor with the cesaro curve

2020 Revista Facultad de Ingeniería
In the design of electronic circuits, stands out the power stage, which is responsible of increasing the signal characteristics, as current and voltage, for an appropriate performance of the device to fabricate. However, this stage is composed of elements like transistors, which may have a low performance, due to the undesired temperature increase, as a result of reaching the desired power. To mitigate the loss of power and with it, the temperature rise, the management of heat sink is proposed,

This manuscript presents the obtained results of the thermal analysis in finite elements of the heat sink with fins in the form of a Cesaro curve, for power semiconductors, which evidence the increase in the heat flow, with respect to the commercial ones and so, facilitate the heat evacuation for conditioning the voltage and/or current.

Los microorganismos más frecuentes aislados fueron 10 cepas de S. aureus (32,26 %); 7 cepas de estafilococos coagulasa negativos (22,58 %) y 6 cepas de bacilos no fermentadores (19,35 %)164 hemocultures of patients suspected of sepsis of undefined cause admitted at the Critical Care Unit and at the Intermediate Care Unit of "Dr. Salvador Allende" Hospital, in Cerro Municipality, Havana City, were studied in order to determine by quantitative bacteriological technique of hemocultures the origin of the sepsis by intravascular catheterism. 2 samples of hemocultures were taken . l was obtained by peripheral venipuncture and the other by indwelling catheter. The samples were processed by quantitative bacteriological technique. It was found that in 48.39 % of the cases the sepsis was produced by the intravenous catheter, whereas in 51.61 % the focus of infection had another localization. The most frequently isolated microorganisms were 10 strains of S. aureus (32.26 %), 7 strains of coagulase-negative Staphylococcus (22.58 %) and 6 strains of non-fermenting bacilli (19.35 %)
