The LAMOST Data Archive and Data Release
[article]
2016
arXiv
pre-print
The Large sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) is the largest optical telescope in China. In last four years, the LAMOST telescope has published four editions data (pilot data release, data release 1, data release 2 and data release 3). To archive and release these data (raw data, catalog, spectrum etc), we have set up a data cycle management system, including the transfer of data, archiving, backup. And through the evolution of four software versions, mature established data release system.

IVOA HiPS Implementation in the Framework of WorldWide Telescope
[article]

The WorldWide Telescope(WWT) is a scientific visualization platform which can browse deep space images, star catalogs, and planetary remote sensing data from different observation facilities in a three-dimensional virtual scene. First launched and then open-sourced by Microsoft Research, the WWT is now managed by the American Astronomical Society (AAS). Hierarchical Progressive Survey (HiPS) is an astronomical data release scheme proposed by Centre de Donn\'ees astronomiques de Strasbourg (CDS)

... and has been accepted as a recommendation by International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA). The HiPS solution has been adopted widely by many astronomical institutions for data release. Since WWT selected Hierarchical Triangular Mesh (HTM) as the standard for data visualization in the early stage of development, data released by HiPS cannot be visualized in WWT, which significantly limits the application of WWT. This paper introduces the implementation method for HiPS dataset visualization in WWT, and introduces HiPS data projection, mesh rendering, and data index implementation in WWT. Taking Chang'E-2 lunar probe data as an example, this paper introduces how to convert planetary remote sensing data into a HiPS dataset and integrate it into WWT. This paper also compares the efficiency and memory consumption of WWT loading its native data and HiPS data, and illustrates the application of HiPS in scientific data visualization and science education in WWT.

Identification of Biomarkers for Osteosarcoma Based on Integration Strategy
2020
Medical Science Monitor
BACKGROUND Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common primary malignant tumor of bone. The identification of novel biomarkers is necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of osteosarcoma. MATERIAL AND METHODS We obtained 11 paired fresh-frozen OS samples and normal controls from patients between September 2015 and February 2017. We used an integration strategy that analyzes next-generation sequencing data by bioinformatics methods based on the pathogenesis of osteosarcoma. RESULTS One susceptibility

... ncRNA and 7 susceptibility genes regulated by the lncRNA for osteosarcoma were effectively identified, and real-time PCR and clinical index ALP data were used to test their effectiveness. CONCLUSIONS The results showed that the expression levels of the 7 genes were highly consistent in the training and test sample sets, especially between the expression value of the gene ALPL and the plasma detection value of its encoded protein ALP. In particular, both the expression of gene ALPL and the plasma detection values of protein ALP encoded by gene ALPL showed a high degree of consistency among different data types. The identified lncRNA and genes effectively classified the samples proved so that they could be used as potential biomarkers of osteosarcoma. Our strategy may also be helpful for the identification of biomarkers for other diseases.

Horizontal Transfer of a Retrotransposon from the Rice Planthopper to the Genome of an Insect DNA Virus
2019
Journal of Virology
Horizontal transfer of genetic materials between virus and host has been frequently identified. Three rice planthoppers, Laodelphax striatellus, Nilaparvata lugens, and Sogatella furcifera, are agriculturally important insects because they are destructive rice pests and also the vector of a number of phytopathogenic viruses. In this study, we discovered that a small region (∼300 nucleotides [nt]) of the genome of invertebrate iridescent virus 6 (IIV-6; genus Iridovirus, family Iridoviridae), a

... iant DNA virus that infects invertebrates but is not known to infect planthoppers, is highly homologous to the sequences present in high copy numbers in these three planthopper genomes. These sequences are related to the short interspersed nuclear elements (SINEs), a class of non-long terminal repeat (LTR) retrotransposons (retroposons), suggesting a horizontal transfer event of a transposable element from the rice planthopper genome to the IIV-6 genome. In addition, a number of planthopper transcripts mapped to these rice planthopper SINE-like sequences (RPSlSs) were identified and appear to be transcriptionally regulated along the different developmental stages of planthoppers. Small RNAs derived from these RPSlSs are predominantly 26 to 28 nt long, which is a typical characteristic of PIWI-interacting RNAs. Phylogenetic analysis suggests that IIV-6 acquires a SINE-like retrotransposon from S. furcifera after the evolutionary divergence of the three rice planthoppers. This study provides further examples of the horizontal transfer of an insect transposon to virus and suggests the association of rice planthoppers with iridoviruses in the past or present. IMPORTANCE This study provides an example of the horizontal transfer event from a rice planthopper genome to an IIV-6 genome. A small region of the IIV-6 genome (∼300 nt) is highly homologous to the sequences presented in high copy numbers of three rice planthopper genomes that are related to the SINEs, a class of retroposons. The expression of these planthopper SINE-like sequences was confirmed, and corresponding Piwi-interacting RNA-like small RNAs were identified and comprehensively characterized. Phylogenetic analysis suggests that the giant invertebrate iridovirus IIV-6 obtains this SINE-related sequence from Sogatella furcifera through a horizontal transfer event in the past. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a horizontal transfer event between a planthopper and a giant DNA virus and also is the first evidence for the eukaryotic origin of genetic material in iridoviruses.
Involvement of the R2R3-MYB transcription factors MYB21 and its homologs in regulating the stamen flavonols accumulation in Arabidopsis
2021
Journal of Experimental Botany
Flavonols are a subclass of flavonoids that exhibit a wide array of physiological functions in plants. Commonly found flavonols are synthesized from dihydroflavonols by flavonol synthase (FLS). The genome of Arabidopsis thaliana contains six FLS genes, among which, FLS1, encodes a functional enzyme. Previous work has demonstrated that R2R3-MYB subgroup 7 transcription factors MYB11, MYB12 and MYB111 redundantly regulate flavonol biosynthesis. However, flavonol accumulation in pollen grains was

... naffected in the myb11myb12myb111 triple mutant. Here we show that MYB21 and its homologs MYB24 and MYB57, which belong to subgroup 19, promote flavonol biosynthesis through regulation of FLS1 gene expression. A combination of genetic and metabolite analysis is used to identify the role of MYB21 in flavonol biosynthesis regulation through direct binding to the GARE cis-element in the FLS1 promoter. Interestingly, treatment with kaempferol or over-expression of FLS1 rescue stamen defects in the myb21 mutant. We also observed that excess ROS accumulated in myb21 stamen, and that treatment with dipenyleneiodonium chloride (DPI, a ROS inhibitor) can partly rescue the reduced-fertility of a myb21 mutant. Furthermore, drought stress increased ROS abundance and impaired fertility in myb21, myb21myb24myb57 and chs, but not in wild type or myb11myb12myb111. This suggested that pollen-specific flavonol accumulation contributes to drought-induced male fertility by ROS scavenging in Arabidopsis. These are previously unreported insights into the biological function of flavonols in Arabidopsis.

Public observatory project is playing more and more important role in science popularization education and scientific research, and many amateur astronomers also have began to build their own observatories in remote areas. As a result of the limitation of technical condition and construction funds for amateur astronomers, their system often breaks down, and then a stable remote unattended operation system becomes very critical.
