Adjunctive bone grafting in arthroscopic surgery for symptomatic meniscal tearing

Patel M Mihir, Shah Kishan, Patel M Sahvan, Patel S Sia, Hillenburg John
2018 Journal of Rheumatology and Orthopedics
Meniscal tears are prevalent throughout the population. These tears can become symptomatic for patients including locking, giving way, and buckling, creating instability. Conservative treatment measures initially prior to instability developing may include physical therapy, alternative shots, and rest. Patients may develop bone edema in the proximal tibia following meniscal tearing which may warrant further index treatment measures and a modified physical therapy program when compared to those patients that do not have any bone edema.

An introduction to clinical governance in dentistry

Kishan Patel, Ian Jenkyn
2021 British Dental Journal
Clinical governance permeates all aspects of dental practice regardless of speciality or workplace. Many of the principles of clinical governance form part of essential legal and professional obligations for continued practice as a dentist. In light of this, this article aims to highlight the core concepts of clinical governance and aid dental practitioners to apply these to patient care.

2021 International Journal of Orthopaedics Sciences
Ankle injuries gain importance because body weight is transmitted through it and locomotion depends upon the stability of this joint. Trimalleolar fractures are one of the most complex fracture around ankle. As with all intra articular fractures, Trimalleolar fractures necessitate reduction and stable internal fixation [2] . The purpose of this study is to assess the functional outcome and results of surgical treatment of Trimalleolar fractures to attain a proper anatomical alignment and
more » ... ty of ankle joint [2] . Material and Methods: A Prospective study was conducted for 30 patients with trimalleolar ankle fracture. Open reduction and internal fixation was done. Patients were evaluated with functional scoring by Biard and Jackson. The functional outcome of ORIF by subjective, objective and radiological assessment were recorded. Results: In the present study of 30 patients with trimalleolar ankle fractures treated by open reduction and internal fixation. Excellent results were achieved in 17 (56.67%) patients, good in 8 (26.67%), fair in 3 (10%) and poor in 2 (6.67%) patient. Excellent results were observed young patients with close trimalleoluar fractures. More severe injuries, compound fracture and severely osteoporotic fractures were followed by least satisfactory results. The patient with poor result had mild pain with activities of daily living, diminution in the abilities to run and to do work, reduced motion of ankle and narrowing of joint space. Conclusion: This fracture pattern was classified under Lauge-Hansens on basis of different injury mechanisms, and were treated according to it. After anatomic reduction and stable fixation through the specific operative approach and methods, the short-term outcome was good and complications were reduced to minimum. The operative results were eminently satisfactory in 83.33% of patients.

2020 Journal of Clinical Virology
There is an increasing number of confirmed cases and deaths caused by the Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) contributing to the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. At this point, the need for further disease characterization is critical. COVID-19 is well established as a respiratory tract pathogen; however, recent studies have shown an increasing number of patients reporting gastrointestinal manifestations such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal
more » ... n. The time from onset of gastrointestinal symptoms to hospital presentation is often delayed compared to that of respiratory symptoms. It has been noted that SARS-CoV-2 RNA can be detected in fecal matter for an extended period of time, even after respiratory samples have tested negative and patients are asymptomatic. In this article, SARS-CoV-2 and its disease COVID-19 will be reviewed with consideration of the latest literature about gastrointestinal symptomatology, the mechanisms by which the virus may inflict damage, and the possibility of viral replication contributing to a fecal-oral route of transmission.

Minimal Invasive Endodontics: A Comprehensive Narrative Review

2022 Cureus
It is the aim of any surgical procedure to restore the tooth to its normal form and function, as well as to restore the tooth's appearance when it is appropriate to do so. One of the primary purposes of endodontic therapy is to clear out the root canal system of germs, pulpal remains, and other foreign matter. A tooth's biomechanical properties have to be compromised in order to achieve this goal; hence the tooth has a poor prognosis for restorative success. The remaining dental structure and
more » ... storations have a significant impact on the long-term viability of an endodontically treated tooth. Minimally invasive endodontics (MIE) is an endodontic technique that aims to maintain as much of the healthy coronal, cervical, and radicular tooth structure as possible. Access opening, root canal cleaning and shaping, and surgical endodontics are all possible applications for MIE in endodontic treatment. The objective of new-age endodontics is minimum intervention, and this review article examines a variety of methods that may be combined at each level of endodontics to reach this goal. A favorable outcome with minimally invasive treatment may be achieved while preserving the tooth's natural structure with careful case selection.

Enhanced Recovery After Cesarean: Current and Emerging Trends

Kishan Patel, Mark Zakowski
2021 Current Anesthesiology Reports
What are the latest enhanced recovery elements for cesarean delivery? Enhanced recovery after cesarean delivery (ERAC) provides an evidenced-based system to improve maternal outcomes, functional recovery, maternal-infant bonding, and patient experience. Postsurgical recovery has evolved from a one-dimensional pain score to a holistic multidimensional approach emphasizing faster functional recovery. ERAC involves multidisciplinary efforts of the anesthesiologist, obstetrician, nursing, hospital,
more » ... and patient. Components of ERAC include preoperative patient education, limited fasting, carbohydrate load, limiting opioids intra- and postoperatively, using scheduled non-opioid analgesics and supplementing with advanced therapies for women at higher risk for pain. ERAC protocols reduce opioid consumption, reduce length of stay, and improve maternal and neonatal outcomes. Implementing ERAC standardized care will likely be the most important change you can make in your practice to improve outcomes, improve quality care, help address racial disparities, and minimize opioid exposure and potential for addiction.

2015 Procedia Computer Science
Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) can be said as a collection of mobile nodes, which builds a dynamic topology and a A resource constrained network. In this paper, we present a survey of various testbeds for Mobile Ad hoc Networks. Emulator provides environment without modifications to the software and validates software solutions for ad hoc network. We contribute a survey of emulation testbeds for the choice of appropriate research tools in the mobile ad hoc networks.
