Polypropylene fiber (PP) was radiation-induced graft polymerization of lauryl acrylate (LA) and butyl acrylate (BA) using a 60 Co gamma radiation source. Then the grafted polypropylene fiber was characterized by a Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG), which indicated that LA and BA have been grafted onto PP. From late 2009 to 2010, southwestern China experienced a severe drought. We evaluated the selforganisation of a seasonal tropical rainforest in response to drought stress. The forest had the least self-organization in 2010, and during the dry season (March-April) of 2010, the forest was least able to capture exergy (Rn/DR). Using digital cameras for comparative phenological monitoring in an evergreen broad-leaved forest and a seasonal rain forest

Digital cameras have been used in phenological observations for their high accuracy and low labor cost. Most studies successfully use greenness indices derived from digital images for timing the events related to leaf development. However, when timing the leaf senescence events, wide discrepancies between actual and estimated dates are common. In this study, images of three species (two from an evergreen broad-leaved forest and one from a seasonal rain forest) were used to estimate three
more » ... gical events of leaf development and senescence. Other than the greenness index, a redness index was also employed. Different annual patterns in color indices developed among the species. The redness index was more accurate when estimating leaf senescence, while the greenness index was more accurate for estimating leaf development events in Acer heptalobum and Machilus bombycina. The absolute differences in estimations of phenological events ranged from − 3 to 1 day, which is more accurate than estimates based on the greenness index only (− 2 to 27 days). With the introduction of the redness index, this technique has been much improved and is possible to be applied to more species. Furthermore, variations of color indices during periods of phenological events were highly related to the climatic factors with a time lag of around 10 days. Because of the ease of use and efficiency (i.e., automatic daily data output), digital cameras are expected to be used in ecosystem process modeling, networks of phenology assessment and validation of the remote sensing results from satellites.

Insentek Sensor: An Alternative to Estimate Daily Crop Evapotranspiration for Maize Plants

Estimation of ground-truth daily evapotranspiration (ETc) is very useful for developing sustainable water resource strategies, particularly in the North China Plain (NCP) with limited water supplies. Weighing lysimetry is a well-known approach for measuring actual ETc. Here, we introduced an alternative to lysimetry for ETc determination using Insentek sensors. A comparison experiment was conducted for maize plants at Xuchang Irrigation Experiment Station, in the NCP, in 2015 and 2016. Insentek
more » ... ETc was evaluated using data on clear days and rainy days independently. We found that daily ETc increased gradually from VE (emergence) to VT (tasseling) stages, peaked at the R1 (silking) stage with the highest value of 7.8 mm·d−1, and then declined until maturity. On average, cumulative total of lysimetric ETc was 19% higher than that of Insentek ETc. The major depth of soil water extraction might be 60 cm for maize plants on lysimeters according to soil water depletion depth monitored by Insentek sensors. Daily ETc significantly related to soil water content (SWC) in topsoil (0–30 cm) in an exponential function (coefficients of determination (R2) = 0.32–0.53), and to precipitation (Pre) in a power function (R2 = 0.84–0.87). The combined SWC (0–30 cm)–Pre–ETc model may offer significant potential for accurate estimation of maize ETc in semi-humid environment of the NCP.

The Technical Analysis on Upgrade and Coupling of Low-Quality Coal

Experimental study was conducted with regard to upgrading low-quality coal by low temperature pyrolysis technology and fluidization classification technology, which laid the theoretical foundation for research and development of low-quality coal upgrading process. Firstly, a pyrolysis pilot experiment of long-flame coal was performed and the optimum pyrolysis conditions were found. more » ... ile dry ash-free was about 22.89% and the content of semicoke ash was about 16.1%. More than 5% of the ash needs to be removed before entering the pyrolysis fluidized bed. Thus, classification tests were carried out to pick out the coal particles with the target size of 500 μm, using a gas-solid fluidized bed coal picker. It was found that the separating effect of coal particles was the most satisfactory when the inlet velocity at the bottom was 3.27 m/s. The percentage of particles with diameters less than 500 μm was as low as 28.7% in the coarse samples. Based on the test results, a novel process of low-quality coal upgrade and coupling was proposed, which realized the sorting, grading, drying and pyrolysis of low-quality coal through the multi-stage fluidized bed integrated process.

Investigating the Asymmetric Core/Periphery Structure of International Labor Time Flows

This paper studies the core/periphery hierarchy of the capitalist world-economy in the current globalization era. The central and novel argument is that the network of international labor time flows reveals the core/periphery hierarchy of the world-economy with regard to the international division of labor. Based on the analysis of the labor time network of forty economies from the world input-output table, I find that the core/periphery structure of the world-economy has in large part remained
more » ... unaltered for 1995-2009, though the asymmetry of international labor time flows decreased slightly between 2003-2009. Through regression analysis, I find that per capita income of a country is strongly associated with its command over global labor time. The regression analysis also lends evidence to the existence of oligarchic wealth. This wealth is not available to all countries, implying that the struggle of a country to improve its position in the capitalist world-economy tends to put downward pressure on the income of other countries.

Objective To explore the effect of exercise intervention for arthralgia in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods Totally 80 patients with knee osteoarthritis recruited were selected as the research objects. Patients were divided into observation group (n=29) and control group(n=51). The disease awareness, Body Mass Index (BMI), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score, WOMAC score and clinical syndrome quantitative score of the two groups were observed and recorded. Results After 12 weeks of treatment, the cognitive function scores of 2 groups were significantly increased, and cognitive function score in observation group were higher than that in the control group (P<0. 05). The VAS score, WOMAC score and clinical syndrome quantification score in two groups were significantly decreased, and lower outcomes of VAS, WOMAC and clinical syndrome quantification were found in the observation group compared with those in the control group(P<0. 01). The overall effective rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P<0. 01). Conclusion The application of exercise intervention for arthralgia is potentially effective to increase patient's awareness, relieve the knee pain, improve the function of the knee joint and relieve the clinical symptoms of patients.

Numerical Study of the Simultaneous Oxidation of NO and SO2 by Ozone

This study used two kinetic mechanisms to evaluate the oxidation processes of NO and SO2 by ozone. The performance of the two models was assessed by comparisons with experimental results from previous studies. The first kinetic mechanism was a combined model developed by the author that consisted of 50 species and 172 reactions. The second mechanism consisted of 23 species and 63 reactions. more » ... esults showed that the optimized reaction temperature for NO with O3 ranged from 100~200 °C. At higher temperatures, O3 decomposed to O2 and O, which resulted in a decrease of the NO conversion rate. When the mole ratio of O3/NO was greater than 1, products with a higher oxidation state (such as NO3, N2O5) were formed. The reactions between O3 and SO2 were weak; as such, it was difficult for O3 to oxidize SO2.

Bovine serum albumin (BSA) molecular-imprinted polysiloxane (MIP) membrane was prepared by sol-gel technology, using silanes as the functional monomers, BSA as the template and CaAlg hydrogel film as the matrix. The stress-strain curves of wet CaAlg membrane and molecular-imprinted polysiloxane membrane were investigated. We evaluate the adsorption and recognition properties of MIP membrane. Results showed that the adsorption capacity of BSA-imprinted polysiloxane for BSA reached 28.83 mg/g,
more » ... ch was 2.18 times the non-imprinted polysiloxane (NIP) membrane. The adsorption rate was higher than that of the protein-imprinted hydrogel. BSA-imprinted polysiloxane membrane could identify the protein template from competitive proteins such as bovine hemoglobin, ovalbumin and bovine γ-globulin. In order to obtain the biomaterial that can promote cell adhesion and proliferation, fibronectin (FN)-imprinted polysiloxane (FN-MIP) membrane was obtained by using fibronectin as the template, silanes as functional monomers, and CaAlg hydrogel membrane as the substrate or matrix. The FN-MIP adsorbed more FN than NIP. The FN-imprinted polysiloxane membrane was applied to culture mouse fibroblast cells (L929) and the results proved that the FN-MIP had a better effect on cell adhesion than NIP.
