Anthropogenic forcing on the Hadley circulation in CMIP5 simulations

Poleward expansion of the Hadley circulation has been an important topic in climate change studies in the past few years, and one of the critically important issues is how it is related to anthropogenic forcings. Using simulations from the coupled model intercomparison projection phase 5 (CMIP5), we study influences of anthropogenic forcings on the width and strength of the Hadley circulation. It is found that significant poleward expansion of the Hadley circulation can be reproduced in CMIP5
more &raquo; ... storical all-forcing simulations although the magnitude of trends is much weaker than observations. Simulations with individual forcings demonstrate that among three major types of anthropogenic forcings, increasing greenhouse gases (GHGs) and stratospheric ozone depletion all cause poleward expansion of the Hadley circulation, whereas anthropogenic aerosols do not have significant influences on the Hadley circulation. Increasing GHGs cause significant poleward expansion in both hemispheres, with the largest widening of the northern cell in boreal autumn. Stratospheric ozone depletion forces significant poleward expansion of the Hadley circulation for the southern cell in austral spring and summer and for the northern cell in boreal spring. In CMIP5 projection simulations for the twenty-first century, the magnitude of poleward expansion of the Hadley circulation increases with GHG forcing. On the other hand, ozone recovery competes with increasing GHGs in determining the width of the Hadley circulation, especially in austral summer. In both historical and projection simulations, the strength of the Hadley circulation shows significant weakening in winter in both hemispheres.

Identification and characterization of suppressor mutants of stop1

Proton stress and aluminum (Al) toxicity are major constraints limiting crop growth and yields on acid soils (pH < 5). In Arabidopsis, STOP1 is a master transcription factor that controls the expression of a set of well-characterized Al tolerance genes and unknown processes involved in low pH resistance. As a result, loss-of-function stop1 mutants are extremely sensitive to low pH and Al stresses. Results: Here, we report on screens of an ethyl-methane sulphonate (EMS)-mutagenized stop1
more &raquo; ... on and isolation of nine strong stop1 suppressor mutants, i.e., the tolerant to proton stress (tps) mutants, with significantly enhanced root growth at low pH (4.3). Genetic analyses indicated these dominant and partial gain-of-function mutants are caused by mutations in single nuclear genes outside the STOP1 locus. Physiological characterization of the responses of these tps mutants to excess levels of Al and other metal ions further classified them into five groups. Three tps mutants also displayed enhanced resistance to Al stress, indicating that these tps mutations partially rescue the hypersensitive phenotypes of stop1 to both low pH stress and Al stress. The other six tps mutants showed enhanced resistance only to low pH stress but not to Al stress. We carried out further physiologic and mapping-by-sequencing analyses for two tps mutants with enhanced resistance to both low pH and Al stresses and identified the genomic regions and candidate loci in chromosomes 1 and 2 that harbor these two TPS genes. Conclusion: We have identified and characterized nine strong stop1 suppressor mutants. Candidate loci for two tps mutations that partially rescue the hypersensitive phenotypes of stop1 to low pH and Al stresses were identified by mapping-by-sequencing approaches. Further studies could provide insights into the structure and function of TPSs and the regulatory networks underlying the STOP1-mediated processes that lead to resistance to low pH and Al stresses in Arabidopsis.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Geo-spatial information technology can provide data resources, positioning benchmarks, basic framework and key technologies for disaster prevention and reduction. At present, there are some problems in China's disaster reduction services. Too much focus is placed on decision-making but not on early warning. In addition, the integration of technology, system and application of disaster reduction services is not enough. There is still a lack of a unified

In order to provide technical support for China's comprehensive disaster reduction decision analysis, from the perspective of surveying, mapping, and geoinformation, this paper introduces an integrated disaster reduction intelligent service prototype system, which is concluded key technologies such as indoor and outdoor integrated emergency location, multi-source emergency data fusion, disaster scene visualization, and disaster model analysis services. Moreover, the integrated disaster reduction intelligent service prototype system has been applied in relevant emergency departments in Tibet and Xinjiang, realizing the integrated sensing, positioning, integration, analysis and service of emergency information.</p>

This work elucidates dynamic control equations of the anchoring system and the derivation of displacement equations and corresponding vibration modes. Furthermore, the anchoring system is found to be composed of three different vibration modes: (1) when ω < (k1/ρ1A1)1/2, the vibration mode of the anchoring section is an exponential function; (2) when ω = (k1/ρ1A1)1/2, the vibration mode of the anchoring section is a parabolic function; (3) when ω > (k1/ρ1A1)1/2, the vibration mode of the
more &raquo; ... ng section is a trigonometric function, while all the free sections are trigonometric functions. With an increase of frequency, the amplitude of the bolt exhibits multipeak distribution characteristics and an intermittent amplification phenomenon. When the frequency reaches a certain value, the bolt of the free section exhibits only the amplified state. Under dynamic load, the amplitude of the bolt increases from end of bolt to the maximum in the root. On the other hand, when the frequency is low, the peak position of the roof bolt is stable, and the excitation wave component is the main influencing factor of the peak value of axial force at the root of the bolt, independent of frequency. When the frequency is relatively high, the peak value of the axial force is stable at the interface, and the higher the frequency, the greater the peak value of axial force. Axial force of the bolt has responded strongly to the frequency at the interface, and the farther away from the interface, the weaker the response.

Sequential Decision Analysis of Fire Emergency and Rescue on Urban Successional Building Fires

Successional building fires in cities may occur both in conventional and unconventional conditions. In the view of emergency response centers, a continuous coordinated work is requested to face (deal with) fires. In general, fires changes dynamically as situation changes, but the effects of sequential characteristic on resource scheduling were seldom considered by existing studies. The effect of fire importance on decision-making, meanwhile, was neglected in most studies. In this work, based on
more &raquo; ... the whole firefighting dynamic process of fire rescue decision environment, we come out with a sequential decision making method. This method introduces the importance of different successional fires and establishes a sequential decision-making model for successional building fires with multi-rescue sources. The objective function of this method is to minimize the burned area. Case studies demonstrate the methodology and its application in fire sequential decision-making with 5 successional fires in Nanchang city. The results indicate that our method can solve problems finding sequential characteristic of successional fires and importance on decision-making.

When the mechanical transmission mechanism fails, such as gears and bearings in the gearbox, its vibration signal often appears as a periodic impact. Considering the influence of noise, however, the fault signal is often submerged in the noise, so it is necessary to propose a feasible and effective fault extraction method. MOMEDA (multipoint optimal minimum entropy deconvolution adjusted) overcomes the tedious iterative process of MED (minimum entropy deconvolution) and overcomes the resampling
more &raquo; ... trouble in MCKD (maximum correlated kurtosis deconvolution). It is suitable for dealing with periodic impact signal. Besides, aiming at the poor ability of MOMEDA to capture the deconvolution result of target function in a strong noise environment, this paper proposes an improved MOMEDA gearbox fault feature extraction method. Considering that MOMEDA has poor anti-noise performance and can easily cause misdiagnosis in a strong noisy environment, this paper constructs an autoregressive mean sliding model to improve the noise immunity of MOMEDA. Firstly, the stability of the test signal is judged by the autocorrelation coefficient (ACF) and the partial correlation coefficient (PACF). Secondly, the ARMA (autoregressive moving average) model is constructed and a set of optimal model coefficients are obtained to filter the signal, which greatly improves MOMEDA's ability to capture fault features. Thirdly, the fault feature is extracted by MOMEDA, and the fault information is extracted accurately under a strong noise environment. Finally, compared with AR-MED, ARMAMED, and other methods, the advantages of ARMAMOMEDA are verified. Moreover, the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method are verified by simulation signals and experimental data from the Case Western Reserve University Bearing Data Center.

Close-to-nature management (CTNM) is the most promising option for plantation silviculture and has received widespread attention in recent years. Stand density is a key variable in CTNM, as it directly influences growth and yield. Research for the optimal density that maximizes the total harvest has been ongoing. In this paper, a dynamic programming model was applied to the CTNM of Phoebe bournei plantations for the first time to solve the problem of stand density and target tree density
more &raquo; ... . This paper took Phoebe bournei plantations in Jindong Forest Farm of Hunan Province as the research object. Based on the data of seven consecutive years from 2015 to 2021, Richard's growth equation was used to fit the height growth equation and basal area growth equation of Phoebe bournei. Stand growth was divided into five development stages according to the forest growth process and characteristics. Stand density and basal area were selected as two-dimensional state variables, and the maximum total harvest in the entire stand growth process was used as the objective function to establish a dynamic programming model. The optimal stand density and target tree density at each growth stage of the stand under three different site conditions were determined. According to the results obtained, the objective forest shape was designed for the stand under three types of site conditions, which can provide a theoretical basis for the CTNM of Phoebe bournei plantations to make the stand achieve the maximum harvest.
