Simulation study of broadband long-pulsed amplification in high-power laser systems

Accurately and efficiently predicting the fundamental-frequency temporal shape of broadband long-pulsed lasers is very important in research on the properties of high-power laser amplifiers. In this study, we first propose that analytic electric polarization in the temporal domain is applied to broadband long-pulsed pulse amplification. We first verify the accuracy of this algorithm in the dozens of picoseconds range and the results are consistent with Miro software. Then we simulate the
more &raquo; ... nd long-pulsed amplification. The simulation results indicate that the front edge of the output pulse is more enlarged than the end edge owing to saturation and that the gain narrowing induces severe amplitude modulation. Analytic electric polarization in the temporal domain is effective and precise for investigating the broadband pulse amplification in the time scale from dozens of picoseconds to nanoseconds, and the computation time can be decreased by at least 4 orders of magnitude.

AbstractPrevious studies in humans have shown that brain regions activating social exclusion overlap with those related to attention. However, in the context of social exclusion, how does behavioral monitoring affect individual behavior? In this study, we used the Cyberball game to induce the social exclusion effect in a group of participants. To explore the influence of social exclusion on the attention network, we administered the Attention Network Test (ANT) and compared results for the
more &raquo; ... subsystems of the attention network (orienting, alerting, and executive control) between exclusion (N = 60) and inclusion (N = 60) groups. Compared with the inclusion group, the exclusion group showed shorter overall response time and better executive control performance, but no significant differences in orienting or alerting. The excluded individuals showed a stronger ability to detect and control conflicts. It appears that social exclusion does not always exert a negative influence on individuals. In future research, attention to network can be used as indicators of social exclusion. This may further reveal how social exclusion affects individuals' psychosomatic mechanisms.

Recent studies have demonstrated the diagnostic and prognostic values of global glomerulosclerosis (GGS) in IgA nephropathy, aging, and end-stage renal disease. However, the fine-grained quantitative analysis of multiple GGS subtypes (e.g., obsolescent, solidified, and disappearing glomerulosclerosis) is typically a resource extensive manual process. Very few automatic methods, if any, have been developed to bridge this gap for such analytics. In this paper, we present a holistic pipeline to

In addition, we conduct the fine-grained classification for the sub-types of GGS. Our study releases the open-source quantitative analytical tool for fine-grained GGS characterization while tackling the technical challenges in unbalanced classification and integrating detection and classification.

Improving Bearing Fault Diagnosis Using Maximum Information Coefficient Based Feature Selection

Effective feature selection can help improve the classification performance in bearing fault diagnosis. This paper proposes a novel feature selection method based on bearing fault diagnosis called Feature-to-Feature and Feature-to-Category- Maximum Information Coefficient (FF-FC-MIC), which considers the relevance among features and relevance between features and fault categories by exploiting the nonlinearity capturing capability of maximum information coefficient. more &raquo; ... ation feature subset obtained by a Feature-to-Feature-Maximum Information Coefficient (FF-MIC) matrix and a strong correlation feature subset obtained by a Feature-to-Category-Maximum Information Coefficient (FC-MIC) matrix are merged into a final diagnostic feature set by an intersection operation. To evaluate the proposed FF-FC-MIC method, vibration data collected from two bearing fault experiment platforms (CWRU dataset and CUT-2 dataset) were employed. Experimental results showed that accuracy of FF-FC-MIC can achieve 97.50%, and 98.75% on the CWRU dataset at the motor speeds of 1750 rpm, and 1772 rpm, respectively, and reach 91.75%, 94.69%, and 99.07% on CUT-2 dataset at the motor speeds of 2000 rpm, 2500 rpm, 3000 rpm, respectively. A significant improvement of FF-FC-MIC has been confirmed, since the p-values between FF-FC-MIC and the other methods are 1.166 × 10 − 3 , 2.509 × 10 − 5 , and 3.576 × 10 − 2 , respectively. Through comparison with other methods, FF-FC-MIC not only exceeds each of the baseline feature selection method in diagnosis accuracy, but also reduces the number of features.

Consumption coagulopathy in acute aortic dissection: principles of management

The effect of acute aortic dissection itself on coagulopathy or surgery-related coagulopathy has never been specifically studied. The aim of the present study was to perioperatively describe consumption coagulopathy in patients with acute aortic dissection. Methods: Sixty-six patients with acute type A aortic dissection were enrolled in this study from January 2015 to September 2016. Thirty-six patients with thoracic aortic aneurysms were used as a control group during the same period.
more &raquo; ... on coagulopathy was evaluated using standard laboratory tests, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and thromboelastograghy at five perioperative time-points. Results: A significant reduction in clotting factors and fibrinogen was observed at the onset of acute aortic dissection. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and thromboelastograghy also revealed a persistent systemic activation of the coagulation system and the consumption of clotting factors. In contrast, although platelet counts were consistently low, we did not find that platelet function was more impaired in the acute aortic dissection group than the control group. Conclusions: After surgery, clotting factors and fibrinogen were more impaired than platelet function. Thus, we proposed that hemostatic therapy should focus on the rapid and sufficient supplementation of clotting factors and fibrinogen to improve consumption coagulopathy in patients with acute aortic dissection.

Characteristics of Isolated Small Bowel Crohn's Disease: A Comprehensive Comparison with Small Bowel and Colon Involved Crohn's Disease

Some studies showed that small bowel involved Crohn's Disease (CD) was more serious, which required early identification and aggressive treatment. However, studies investigating small bowel involved CD, especially isolated small bowel CD with large sample size, are limited. Methods: From November 2013 to August 2018, consecutive patients who were confirmed to have small bowel involved CD by double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) were retrospectively reviewed. more &raquo; ... whether colon involved: isolated small bowel involved (case group) and small bowel + colon involved (control group). Results: 204 patients (154 males and 50 females) with small bowel involved CD (98 in case group and 106 in control group) were chosen. Compared with the control group, the case group had a higher proportion of bowel resection history and stricturing behaviour, while had a lower proportion of elevated platelet and erythrocyte sedimentation rate level. The two groups had no difference in bowel resection risk since the DBE procedure (P=0.277), but the case group had a higher probability since the onset of the symptoms (P=0.003). Diagnosis at > 40-year-old, thickest bowel wall>7mm, and stricture found in DBE were risk factors for bowel resection, while patients with irregular ulcer, received infliximab, corticosteroids, or enteral nutrition after DBE may have a lower risk. Conclusion: The isolated small-bowel CD was concealed and would be easily overlooked, though they may be more serious. The prognosis might not be as bad as it used to be considered if the disease could be diagnosed, evaluated comprehensively, and treated appropriately early.

Emotion cause extraction aims to identify the reasons behind a certain emotion expressed in text. It is a much more difficult task compared to emotion classification. Inspired by recent advances in using deep memory networks for question answering (QA), we propose a new approach which considers emotion cause identification as a reading comprehension task in QA. Inspired by convolutional neural networks, we propose a new mechanism to store relevant context in different memory slots to model

Performance evaluation shows that our method achieves the state-of-the-art performance on a recently released emotion cause dataset, outperforming a number of competitive baselines by at least 3.01% in F-measure.

Precise Condition Synthesis for Program Repair

Due to the difficulty of repairing defect, many research efforts have been devoted into automatic defect repair. Given a buggy program that fails some test cases, a typical automatic repair technique tries to modify the program to make all tests pass. However, since the test suites in real world projects are usually insufficient, aiming at passing the test suites often leads to incorrect patches. This problem is known as weak test suites or overfitting. In this paper we aim to produce precise
more &raquo; ... tches, that is, any patch we produce has a relatively high probability to be correct. More concretely, we focus on condition synthesis, which was shown to be able to repair more than half of the defects in existing approaches. Our key insight is threefold. First, it is important to know what variables in a local context should be used in an "if" condition, and we propose a sorting method based on the dependency relations between variables. Second, we observe that the API document can be used to guide the repair process, and propose document analysis technique to further filter the variables. Third, it is important to know what predicates should be performed on the set of variables, and we propose to mine a set of frequently used predicates in similar contexts from existing projects. Based on the insight, we develop a novel program repair system, ACS, that could generate precise conditions at faulty locations. Furthermore, given the generated conditions are very precise, we can perform a repair operation that is previously deemed to be too overfitting: directly returning the test oracle to repair the defect. Using our approach, we successfully repaired 18 defects on four projects of Defects4J, which is the largest number of fully automatically repaired defects reported on the dataset so far. More importantly, the precision of our approach in the evaluation is 78.3%, which is significantly higher than previous approaches, which are usually less than 40%.

Therefore, the primitives learnt from natural images can be utilized to evaluate the visual information by computing entropy. Meanwhile, considering the binocularity in stereo image quality assessment, a feasible way is proposed to characterize this binocular process according to the sparse representation coefficients of each view. Experimental results on LIVE 3D image databases and MCL database further demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves high consistency with subjective evaluation.
