Symptomatic adjacent segment disease after single-lever anterior cervical discectomy and fusion
2017
Medicine
The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence and risk factors of symptomatic adjacent segment disease (ASD) following single-lever anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) for cervical degenerative diseases. From January 2000 to December 2010, a total of 582 patients with cervical radiculopathy and myelopathy who had undergone single-lever ACDF surgery in the authors' institution were reviewed retrospectively. Patients who had a revision surgery for symptomatic ASD were

... d for this study. The authors analyzed the incidence for ASD after single-lever ACDF. And univariate analysis and logistic regression analysis were performed to identify the risk factors of ASD. Among the 582 patients, 36 patients received subsequent surgical management for ASD after initial single-lever ACDF for an overall prevalence of 6.2%. The average onset time of ASD was 8.5 (2-15) years. The univariate analysis showed that there were no significant differences in sex, duration of disease, BMI, DM, smoking, operative levels, and follow-up period (P > .05) between the 2 groups with and without ASD. There were statistically significant differences in age at the time of operation (x 2 = 4.361, P = .037), and developmental canal stenosis (x 2 = 4.181, P = .041) between patients with and without ASD. The variables of age at the time of operation and developmental canal stenosis were included in a logistic regression model. The logistic regression analysis revealed that age at the time of operation 50 years (P = .045, OR = 3.015, 95% CI = 1.024-8.882) and developmental canal stenosis (P = .042, OR = 2.797, 95% CI = 1.039-7.527) were the risk factors for ASD after single-lever ACDF. In the present study, the incidence of symptomatic ASD after single-lever ACDF was 6.2%. And the age at the time of operation 50 years and developmental canal stenosis were the risk factors for ASD. The patients 50 years old at the time of operation or with developmental canal stenosis are more likely to develop ASD after surgery, and the risk of reoperation will increase. Abbreviations: ACDF = anterior cervical discectomy and fusion, ASD = adjacent segment diseases, BMI = body mass index, DM = diabetes mellitus.
Retroperitoneoscopic nephrectomy for a horseshoe kidney with hydronephrosis and inflammation
2019
Medicine
A horseshoe kidney is the most common congenital fusion abnormality in the kidney, occurring in approximately 1 in 400 live births. Several complications including renal malignancies, ureteropelvic junction obstruction, urolithiasis, vesicoureteral reflux, and hydronephrosis can occur in this patient population. A 28-year-old woman was admitted to hospital because of chronic left low back pain. Microscopic hematuria was not seen. Computed tomography showed the horseshoe kidney and left

... rosis. On the basis of these findings and clinical manifestations, the final diagnosis was the horseshoe kidney with left renal hydronephrosis and inflammation. A retroperitoneoscopic nephrectomy on the left kidney was performed. Histopathological examination of the specimen confirmed massive dilatation of the pelvicaliceal system and chronic pyelonephritic inflammation. The patient was discharged on the 7th postoperative day with no complications and no back pain. She remained well at 3 months with normal activity and good cosmetic result. Retroperitoneoscopic nephrectomy can be a safe and minimally invasive surgery for horseshoe kidney treatment.

Colorectal Cancer Migration and Invasion Initiated by microRNA-106a
2012
PLoS ONE
MicroRNAs have been implicated in the regulation of several cellular signaling pathways of colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. Although emerging evidence proves that microRNA (miR)-106a is expressed highly in primary tumor and stool samples of CRC patients; whether or not miR-106a mediates cancer metastasis is unknown. We show here that miR-106a is highly expressed in metastatic CRC cells, and regulates cancer cell migration and invasion positively in vitro and in vivo. These phenotypes do not

... e confounding influences on cancer cell proliferation. MiR-106a inhibits the expression of transforming growth factor-b receptor 2 (TGFBR2), leading to increased CRC cell migration and invasion. Importantly, miR-106a expression levels in primary CRCs are correlated with clinical cancer progression. These observations indicate that miR-106a inhibits the anti-metastatic target directly and results in CRC cell migration and invasion. Citation: Feng B, Dong TT, Wang LL, Zhou HM, Zhao HC, et al. Latent Complete Row Space Recovery for Multi-view Subspace Clustering
[article]

pre-print
Multi-view subspace clustering has been applied to applications such as image processing and video surveillance, and has attracted increasing attention. Most existing methods learn view-specific self-representation matrices, and construct a combined affinity matrix from multiple views. The affinity construction process is time-consuming, and the combined affinity matrix is not guaranteed to reflect the whole true subspace structure. To overcome these issues, the Latent Complete Row Space

... y (LCRSR) method is proposed. Concretely, LCRSR is based on the assumption that the multi-view observations are generated from an underlying latent representation, which is further assumed to collect the authentic samples drawn exactly from multiple subspaces. LCRSR is able to recover the row space of the latent representation, which not only carries complete information from multiple views but also determines the subspace membership under certain conditions. LCRSR does not involve the graph construction procedure and is solved with an efficient and convergent algorithm, thereby being more scalable to large-scale datasets. The effectiveness and efficiency of LCRSR are validated by clustering various kinds of multi-view data and illustrated in the background subtraction task.
Research Status of Carbon Nanotube Fibers and Films Densification
2018
Journal of Materials Engineering
Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) exhibit good mechanical, electrical and thermal properties, and thus with wide application prospects, therefore, attracted wide attention are received from scholars of various countries. CNT fibers and films, composed by CNT bundles, are the main application forms of CNTs in macroscopic scale. However, the performance of CNT fibers and films are far lower than that of single CNT, which is mainly owing to their low density. The main approach for strengthening CNT fibers

Based on the truncated Dyson-Schwinger equations for fermion and massive boson propagators in QED_3, the fermion chiral condensate and the mass singularities of the fermion propagator via the Schwinger function are investigated. It is shown that the critical point of chiral phase transition is apparently different from that of deconfinement phase transition and in Nambu phase the fermion is confined only for small gauge boson mass.

Bulging of 1420 Al-Li alloy based on Pulse Current
2014
Procedia Engineering
The pulse current auxiliary forming technology has been widely applied for the fabrication of complex sheet metal parts. However, the potential of high-density pulse current to generate high electromagnetic forces, which can be taken as drive forces in forming process, hasn't been paid enough attention. Compared with the traditional gas bulging technology, bulging based on pulse current has two main advantages. One is that metal sheets can be formed directly by electromagnetic forces instead of

... the air pressure, and thus the airtightness of die is not an issue. The other is that the forming performance can be improved by the electro plastic effect induced by pulse currents during deformation. In this paper, to validate the effectiveness of this novel method, a special electromagnetic system for bulging of 1420 Al-Li Alloy has been designed and fabricated, in which a highdensity pulse current flows through two parallel 1420 Al-Li Alloy sheets in opposite directions to generate repulsive forces for bulging. Finally, both the numerical and experimental studies are carried out to study the forming behaviour of sheets.
Multiple-View Spectral Embedded Clustering Using a Co-training Approach
[chapter]
2013
Lecture Notes in Electrical Engineering
It is a challenging task to integrate multi-view representations, each of which is of high dimension to improve the clustering performance. In this paper, we aim to improve the clustering performance of spectral clustering method when the manifold for high-dimensional data is not well defined in the multiple-view setting. We abstract the discriminative information on each view by spectral embedded clustering which performs well on high-dimensional data without a clear low-dimensional manifold

... ructure. We bootstrap the clusterings of different views using discriminative information from one another. We derive a co-training algorithm to obtain a most informative clustering by iteratively modifying the affinity graph used for one view using the discriminative information from the other views. The approach is based on the assumption that the clustering from one view should agree with the clustering from another view. Comprehensive experiments on four real-world multiple-view high-dimensional datasets are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Improving Corrosion Resistance and Biocompatibility of Magnesium Alloy by Sodium Hydroxide and Hydrofluoric Acid Treatments
2016
Applied Sciences
Owing to excellent mechanical property and biodegradation, magnesium-based alloys have been widely investigated for temporary implants such as cardiovascular stent and bone graft; however, the fast biodegradation in physiological environment and the limited surface biocompatibility hinder their clinical applications. In the present study, magnesium alloy was treated by sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and hydrogen fluoride (HF) solutions, respectively, to produce the chemical conversion layers with the

... im of improving the corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. The results of attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicated that the chemical conversion layers of magnesium hydroxide or magnesium fluoride were obtained successfully. Sodium hydroxide treatment can significantly enhance the surface hydrophilicity while hydrogen fluoride treatment improved the surface hydrophobicity. Both the chemical conversion layers can obviously improve the corrosion resistance of the pristine magnesium alloy. Due to the hydrophobicity of magnesium fluoride, HF-treated magnesium alloy showed the relative better corrosion resistance than that of NaOH-treated substrate. According to the results of hemolysis assay and platelet adhesion, the chemical surface modified samples exhibited improved blood compatibility as compared to the pristine magnesium alloy. Furthermore, the chemical surface modified samples improved cytocompatibility to endothelial cells, the cells had better cell adhesion and proliferative profiles on the modified surfaces. Due to the excellent hydrophilicity, the NaOH-treated substrate displayed better blood compatibility and cytocompatibility to endothelial cells than that of HF-treated sample. It was considered that the method of the present study can be used for the surface modification of the magnesium alloy to enhance the corrosion resistance and biocompatibility.

2017
DEStech Transactions on Computer Science and Engineering
The level of two-link tank was controlled for THKGK-1 advanced process control device based on double baroceptors. The method of PID control and fuzzy control were used respectively to control liquid level on the existing experiment equipment and software environment. During the experiment, firstly, PID control experiment was done on single baroceptor. Then the experiment was repeated on double baroceptors, and observation and analysis control effect was done according to the actual control

... lts. Secondly, fuzzy control method was put forward and a fuzzy controller was designed by analysis experimental results to find the shortages, and then experimental verification work was done. Finally, the real-time curve of level control and real-time data were displayed in the MCGS configuration software. The two experimental results show that PID Control can control the level of twolink tank, but the effect is a bit poor. It can be improved the performance using PID control based on double baroceptors. The fuzzy control improves the dynamic performance and steady-state performance and obtains better control effect.
