In the experiments of specific deuteration of cytochrome c3 (D. vulgaris, Miyazaki) , it was found that the deuterated methyl group of methionine-methyl-d3 in the medium was incorporated not only into the methionine residues of the polypeptide but also into the C-2 and C-7 positions of the heme groups. ... e transformed from acetate groups by uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase. This pathway cannot explain the incorporation of methyl groups into the C-2 and C-7 positions from methionine. Therefore, our result is the strong evidence for the existence of previously unknown pathway of anaerobic porphyrin biosynthesis in D. vulgaris. Intermediates from uroporphyrinogen III to coproporphyrinogen III would be formed through methylation at the C-2 and C-7 positions , followed by decarboxylation of the acetate groups at the C and D rings.

... ura, decompressive skinplasty with artificial dermis was performed in 5 patients for whom simple skin closure caused the intracranial pressure to elevate under intracranial pressure monitoring. Artificial dermis was grafted onto the region to cover the skin defect and sutured to the skin with 4-0 nylon sutures. Two weeks after surgery, the silicone layer of the artificial dermis was removed and ointment treatment was continued until complete epithelialization was achieved. In all cases, decompressive skinplasty contributed dramatically to decreasing the intracranial pressure in patients with uncontrollable brain swelling. The technique of decompressive skinplasty with artificial dermis contributed to dramatically decreasing the intracranial pressure. More cases are required to investigate the indications for this technique.

Cytochrome c 3 (cyt c 3 ) can mediate electron transport across phosphatidylcholine (PC)/cardiolipin (CL) and PC/ phosphatidylglycerol (PG) membranes. ... phospholipid composition and membrane fluidity. The rate-limiting step of the two-molecule process was lateral diffusion of cyt c 3 in membranes. The rate constants for the three single-molecule process cases were similar to each other. To elucidate these reaction processes, interactions between cyt c 3 and phosphate groups and between cyt c 3 and the glycerol backbones of phospholipid bilayers were investigated by means of 31 P and 2 H solid-state NMR, respectively, for CL and PC/CL membranes. The results showed that the polar headgroups of both phosphatidylcholine and CL are involved in the binding of cyt c 3 . Also, cyt c 3 penetrates into membranes, which would induce distortion of the lipid bilayer. The molecular mechanisms underlying the single-and two-molecule processes are discussed in terms of membrane structure.
