Towards OpenTagging Platform using Semantic Web Technologies
[chapter]
2008
Web 2.0
A conceptualization of tagging data and activities is called "Tag ontology" and there are some implementations using OWL (Kim et al., 2008) . ...
Tagging is a way of representing concepts, with a free-form list of keywords, by using the cognitive association techniques of a tagger without enforcing categorization (Kim et al., 2008) . ...

In this paper, we present our development of a document management and retrieval tool, which is named Ontalk. Our system provides a semi-automatic metadata generator and an ontology-based search engine for electronic documents. Ontalk can create or import various ontologies in RDFS or OWL for describing the metadata. Our system that is built upon .NET technology is easily communicated with or flexibly plugged into many different programs.

FCA-based approach for mining contextualized folksonomy
2007
Proceedings of the 2007 ACM symposium on Applied computing - SAC '07
We present a novel approach to build the contextualized folksonomy and concept hieracrhies from tags of blogosphere based on Formal Concept Analysis. Our approach is based on the assumption that if a blog has the relationships with others, they would use the similar set of tags. We collect the sample data from blogosphere randomly and then build the concept hierarchies on the basis of the inclusion relations(tags) between the extensions(bloggers). We propose the formalization of the

Simple Algorithms for Representing Tag Frequencies in the SCOT Exporter
2007
2007 IEEE/WIC/ACM International Conference on Intelligent Agent Technology (IAT'07)
In this paper we describe the SCOT Exporter and its algorithms to create instance data based on the SCOT (Social Semantic Cloud of Tags) ontology for sharing and reusing tag data. The algorithms use tag frequencies and co-occurrence relations to represent statistical information via the SCOT ontology. We give an overview of the Exporter and the algorithms, and then discuss some experimental results.

Interaction between Cigarette Smoking and Iodine-intake and Their Impact on Thyroid Function
2010
Clinical Endocrinology
Objective Several population-based studies in iodine-deficient areas have shown an association between smoking and thyroid function. There are no population-based studies about the effects of smoking in iodine-sufficient areas. We examined the effect of smoking on thyroid function and the association with iodine intake in Korea, an area with sufficient iodine intake, much more than recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). Design Of 5018 subjects in a population-based cohort, we

... ed 3399 who had no history of thyroid disease were not taking thyroid medication and whose blood samples were available for measurement of thyroid function. Measurements Thyroid function test, questionnaire about smoking status and dietary intake. Results Of 3399 subjects, 397(11AE7%) had subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH). Female sex was an independent risk factor for SCH. Multivariate analysis in female subjects showed the following were independent risk factors for SCH: older age, positive antithyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) antibody status and iodine intake, whereas current smoking was inversely related with SCH. However, in male subjects, only age showed a weak association with SCH. When the interaction between smoking and other risk factors was analysed, smoking showed no association with anti-TPO antibody status, whereas it showed a significant negative interaction with iodine intake (odds ratio, 0AE930; 95% CI, 0AE869-0AE996; P = 0AE037). Furthermore, the risk for SCH was observed only in the never-smoker group; however, it was abolished in current-and ex-smoker groups. Conclusion Cigarette smoking was associated with a lower prevalence of SCH in a negative interaction with iodine intake.
Review and Alignment of Tag Ontologies for Semantically-Linked Data in Collaborative Tagging Spaces
2008
2008 IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing
As the number of Web 2.0 sites offering tagging facilities for the users' voluntary content annotation increases, so do the efforts to analyze social phenomena resulting from generated tagging and folksonomies. Most of these efforts provide different views for the understanding of various web activities. Results from various experimental research should be utilized to improve existing approaches underlying tagging data and contribute further to weaving the Web. However, in practice, there are

... t enough solutions taking advantage of these results. Even though we can mine social relations via tagging data, it proves no worth for users if this data cannot be reused. In this paper we propose a solution for tag data representation which allows data reuse across different tagging systems. To achieve this goal, we analyze current social tagging practices, existing folksonomy usage as well as Semantic Web approaches to data annotation and tagging. We survey and compare existing tag ontologies in an attempt to investigate mapping possibilities between different conceptual models. Finally, we present our method for federation among existing ontologies in order to generate re-usable, semantically-linked data that will underly tagging data.
