2012 Chinese Optics Letters (COL)
Seven color separation criteria are evaluated and compared for multi-ink printer characterization, which is a union of five 3-ink and six 4-ink cellular Yule-Nielsen spectral Neugebauer (CYNSN) submodels. In the experimental stage, testing reflectances from printing samples and Munsell color samples are employed. The results show that the prediction and actual accuracy of all the seven selection criteria are approximately the same for printing samples. As for the Munsell samples, the combE00 &

2018 Medicine
Rationale: Idiopathic hypoparathyroidism (IHP) is a rare endocrine condition, which is frequently represented by neuropsychiatric disorders. Hence, the misdiagnosis rate of the disease is rather high, especially for neurologists. Patient concerns: We reported a case of misdiagnosed, atypical IHP. In addition, the literature on IHP and the misdiagnosis published in China in the past 2 decades has been reviewed and summarized. Diagnoses: Blood testing confirmed that parathyroid hormone (PTH) = 0
more » ... g/mL and the final diagnosis was IHP. Interventions and outcomes: With calcium and vitamin D supplementation, the patient's myasthenia improved significantly, and muscle enzymes returned to normal gradually. One-year follow-up demonstrated that the patient's myasthenia disappeared, and the blood calcium and PTH levels were normal. In addition, the literature on IHP and the misdiagnosis published in China in the past 2 decades has been reviewed and summarized. Lessons: The misdiagnosis rate of IHP in China was high in the past 2 decades, which might be attributed to the misdiagnosis as epilepsy or mental diseases. A clinician should be able to understand the disease and emphasize the screening of high-risk population, especially for those patients with hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, and increased blood creatine kinase with unknown causes or nontypical clinical symptoms. Abbreviations: CK = creatine kinase, CT = computed tomography, IHP = idiopathic hypoparathyroidism, PTH = parathyroid hormone.

2013 BioResources
Modification of sodium lignosulfonate (SLS) via combined oxidationsulfomethylation was employed to prepare concrete superplasticizer. It was found that the oxidation of SLS by peroxyacetic acid facilitated the subsequent sulfomethylation. After modification, both the molecular weight and sulfo group content were significantly increased, and thus the performance of SLS as water reducer was improved. With the water to cement ratio at 0.4 and 0.3% (w/w) modified SLS, the fluidity of cement paste

2018 BMC Ophthalmology
To evaluate the changes of choroidal vascular structures in patients after phacoemulsification surgery. Methods: A self-control study was conducted on 36 eyes of 36 patients who had uneventful phacoemulsification. Choroidal images were acquired preoperatively, 7 days (D7), 1 month (M1), and 3 months (M3) after surgery from enhanced depth imaging (EDI) optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans. Choroidal vascularity index (CVI) was used to assess vascular status of the choroid using image
more » ... tion by the Niblack method. The postoperative values of mean CVI were compared with baseline by paired t-test. Univariate and multiple linear regression analyses were performed to determine the associations between CVI and other factors. Results: The mean age of the recruited patients was 63.1 ± 6.9 years. The mean CVI at baseline was 60.1 ± 5.5%. After surgery, the CVI significantly increased to 61.7 ± 5.3% at D7, 63.6 ± 4.4% at M1 and 64.8 ± 4.0% at M3 (p = 0.035, 0.0006, < 0.0001, respectively). Univariate and multiple regression analysis revealed a positive association between CVI and subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT) at pre-operation and no significant association with age, axial length (AL), intraocular pressure (IOP) and gender at all timepoints. Conclusions: Phacoemulsification induced increased CVI in patients diagnosed with cataract. Evaluation of the long-term change of CVI following surgery may provide valuable information for studying the relationship between phacoemulsification and disorders of the choroid.

To render high-fidelity wearable biomarker data, understanding and engineering the information delivery pathway from epidermally retrieved biofluid to a readout unit are critical. By examining the biomarker information delivery pathway and recognizing near-zero strained regions within a microfluidic device, a strain-isolated pathway to preserve biomarker data fidelity is engineered. Accordingly, a generalizable and disposable freestanding electrochemical sensing system (FESS) is devised, which

The FESS serves as a foundation to realize a system-level design strategy, addressing the challenges of wearable biosensing, in the presence of motion, and integration with consumer electronics. To this end, a FESS-enabled smartwatch was developed, featuring sweat sampling, electrochemical sensing, and data display/transmission, all within a self-contained wearable platform. The FESS-enabled smartwatch was used to monitor the sweat metabolite profiles of individuals in sedentary and high-intensity exercise settings.

2019 Nature Communications
Selective hydrogenolysis of biomass-derived glycerol to propanediol is an important reaction to produce high value-added chemicals but remains a big challenge. Herein we report a PtCu single atom alloy (SAA) catalyst with single Pt atom dispersed on Cu nanoclusters, which exhibits dramatically boosted catalytic performance (yield: 98.8%) towards glycerol hydrogenolysis to 1,2-propanediol. Remarkably, the turnover frequency reaches up to 2.6 × 103 molglycerol·molPtCu-SAA-1·h-1, which is to our
more » ... owledge the largest value among reported heterogeneous metal catalysts. Both in situ experimental studies and theoretical calculations verify interface sites of PtCu-SAA serve as intrinsic active sites, in which the single Pt atom facilitates the breakage of central C-H bond whilst the terminal C-O bond undergoes dissociation adsorption on adjacent Cu atom. This interfacial synergistic catalysis based on PtCu-SAA changes the reaction pathway with a decreased activation energy, which can be extended to other noble metal alloy systems.
