We present a novel technique for calculating forest correlations based on cell counts. It is applied to the line lists from 7 QSOs observed at high resolution (Δ v<25). Two spectra (Q0055-259 and Q0014+813) appear to be sufficiently free of biases to obtain meaningful estimates. We find for both positive correlations, with a maximum of 0.5-1, on the scale of 0.5-3 h^-1 Mpc (comoving), or 100-600, which is consistent with the primordial power spectrum inferred from optically-selected galaxyarXiv:astro-ph/9507033v1 fatcat:4tuqcbdxqff5xghnxwxi4hid7a

I describe briefly the Cosmic Microwave Background (hereafter CMB) physics which explains why high accuracy observations of its spatial structure are a unique observational tool both for the determination of the global cosmological parameters and to constrain observationally the physics of the early universe. more »... eries of new results has recently culminated with the outcome of the WMAP satellite which confirmed earlier results, set new standards of accuracy, and suggested that the Universe may have reionised earlier than anticipated. Many more CMB experiments are currently taking data or being planned, with the Planck satellite on the 2007 Horizon poised to extract all the cosmological information in the temperature anisotropies, and foray deeply into polarisation.
The Planck mission prime objective was a very accurate and complete measurement of the temperature anisotropies of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). Cosmological results from the intensity data of the nominal mission of 15 months duration were disclosed on March 21 st , 2013. Fortunately, the satellite kept acquiring data for at least twice longer, and we announced in February 2015 new results based on all the data acquired, both in temperature and polarisation. We address, by means of Numerical Simulations, the most fundamental issue in the theory of cosmic strings: the existence of a scaling solution. The resolution of this question will determine whether cosmic strings can form the basis of an attractive theory of galaxy formation or prove to be a cosmological disaster like magnetic monopoles or domain walls. Accurate cosmological parameter estimates using polarization data of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) put stringent requirements on map calibration, as highlighted in the recent results from the Planck satellite. In this paper, we point out that a model-dependent determination of polarization calibration can be achieved by the joint fit of the TE and EE CMB power spectra. We demonstrate that, in ΛCDM, the combination of the TE and EE constrain polarization calibration with sub-percent uncertainty with Planck data and 2 with SPTpol data. We arrive at similar conclusions when extending ΛCDM to include the amplitude of lensing A_ L, the number of relativistic species N_ eff, or the sum of the neutrino masses ∑ m_ν. The uncertainties on cosmological parameters are minimally impacted when marginalizing over polarization calibration, except, as can be expected, for the uncertainty on the amplitude of the primordial scalar power spectrum ln(10^10 A_ s), which increases by 20-50 information can be fully recovered by adding TT data. For current and future ground-based experiments, SPT-3G and CMB-S4, we forecast the cosmological parameter uncertainties to be minimally degraded when marginalizing over polarization calibration parameters. In addition, CMB-S4 could constrain its polarization calibration at the level of ∼0.2 reach ∼0.06 calibrating against Planck polarization maps, whose statistical uncertainty is limited to ∼0.5
