BAP: A Binary Analysis Platform
[chapter]
2011
Lecture Notes in Computer Science
BAP is a publicly available infrastructure for performing program verification and analysis tasks on binary (i.e., executable) code. In this paper, we describe BAP as well as lessons learned from previous incarnations of binary analysis platforms. BAP explicitly represents all side effects of instructions in an intermediate language (IL), making syntaxdirected analysis possible. We have used BAP to routinely generate and solve verification conditions that are hundreds of megabytes in size and encompass 100,000's of assembly instructions.

Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma: An Unusual Neurosurgical Entity
1985
Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences
ABSTRACT:Adenoid cystic carcinoma, or cylindroma, usually presents in the salivary glands or in the upper respiratory passages. We report an unusual case of adenoid cystic carcinoma in a 45-year-old woman who presented with a three-year history of progressive right trigeminal sensory palsy, most pronounced in the second division. There was, in addition, a right trigeminal motor palsy and a partial right 6th nerve palsy. CT scanning showed only a small soft tissue mass spanning an enlarged right

... foramen ovale. Solid adenoid cystic carcinoma was resected from Meckel's cave via a middle cranial fossa approach. A subsequent biopsy of the right maxillary antral mucosa found tumor tissue. We concluded that the tumor originated in the maxillary antrum and spread posteriorly along the infraorbital nerve to enlarge in the foramen ovale. Radiation to a total of 5,000 cGy was given. At 22 months there was neither radiographic nor clinical evidence of recurrence. At 30 months, the development of unsteady gait signalled the presence of recurrent tumor extending backwards from Meckel's cave into the right cerebello-pontine angle.

Congenital Pulmonary Stenosis Resulting from Dysplasia of Valve
1969
Circulation
A distinctive type of pulmonary valvular stenosis, termed "pulmonary valvular dysplasia," is described from six necropsies and 10 living children. The anatomic features of the stenotic pulmonary valve are unique in that there are three distinct cusps and no commissural fusion. The obstructive mechanism is related to markedly thickened, immobile cusps, characterized by the presence of disorganized myxomatous tissue. Several clinical features tend to distinguish this form of pulmonary stenosis.

... each of 16 patients studied, a pulmonary ejection murmur was present, but this was not associated with an ejection click. Other features suggestive of this type of pulmonary stenosis were slow body growth, abnormal facies, and a positive family history of pulmonary stenosis. The electrocardiogram showed a greater degree of right axis deviation than is found in most cases of dome-shaped pulmonary stenosis. Right ventriculography revealed distinctive features of the pulmonary valve which were characterized by lack of typical dome-shaped deformity and by the presence of thick cusps. Experience with simple incision-valvulotomy was associated with a high (38%) operative mortality and significant residual stenosis in survivors. The suggested operative procedures include excision of a valve cusp, placement of a right ventricular outflow patch, or replacement of the pulmonary valve.
Posaconazole Mono- or Combination Therapy for Treatment of Murine Zygomycosis
2008
Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy
We compared the efficacy of combination posaconazole-liposomal amphotericin B (LAmB) therapy to monotherapy with either drug in diabetic ketoacidotic or neutropenic mice with disseminated zygomycosis caused by Rhizopus oryzae. Combination therapy was no better than LAmB alone, and posaconazole monotherapy did not improve survival or reduce fungal burden versus placebo.

Munc-18-2 regulates exocytosis of H+-ATPase in rat inner medullary collecting duct cells
2004
American Journal of Physiology - Cell Physiology
Munc-18-2 regulates exocytosis of H ϩ -ATPase in rat inner medullary collecting duct cells. .-Exocytic insertion of H ϩ -ATPase into the apical membrane of inner medullary collecting duct (IMCD) cells is dependent on a soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor (NSF) attachment protein target receptor (SNARE) complex. In this study we determined the role of Munc-18 in regulation of IMCD cell exocytosis of H ϩ -ATPase. We compared the effect of acute cell acidification (the stimulus for IMCD

... tosis) on the interaction of syntaxin 1A with Munc-18-2 and the 31-kDa subunit of H ϩ -ATPase. Immunoprecipitation revealed that cell acidification decreased green fluorescent protein (GFP)-syntaxin 1A and Munc-18-2 interaction by 49 Ϯ 7% and increased the interaction between GFP-syntaxin 1A and H ϩ -ATPase by 170 Ϯ 23%. Apical membrane Munc-18-2 decreased by 27.5 Ϯ 4.6% and H ϩ -ATPase increased by 246 Ϯ 22%, whereas GP-135, an apical membrane marker, did not increase. Pretreatment of IMCD cells with a PKC inhibitor (GO-6983) diminished the previously described changes in Munc-18-2-syntaxin 1A interaction and redistribution of H ϩ -ATPase. In a pull-down assay of H ϩ -ATPase by glutathione S-transferase (GST)-syntaxin 1A bound to beads, preincubation of beads with an approximately twofold excess of His-Munc-18-2 decreased H ϩ -ATPase pulled down by 64 Ϯ 16%. IMCD cells that overexpress Munc-18-2 had a reduced rate of proton transport compared with control cells. We conclude that Munc-18-2 must dissociate from the syntaxin 1A protein for the exocytosis of H ϩ -ATPase to occur. This dissociation leads to a conformational change in syntaxin 1A, allowing it to interact with H ϩ -ATPase, synaptosomeassociated protein (SNAP)-23, and vesicle-associated membrane protein (VAMP), forming the SNARE complex that leads to the docking and fusion of H ϩ -ATPase vesicles. soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein target receptor; cell pH; acid secretion
