ABSTRACT Water is the natural resource responsible for the planet's existence, since it is the source of life for various plant and animal species. When it comes to the use of water by man, it assumes a representative role in addition to the preservation of life as well as a factor in the production of various goods for final and intermediate consumption. Although essential to life, water is a limited resource and its scarcity is worsening due to the population growth due to the lack of management and sustainable uses of natural resources. With this in mind, the article in question aims to deal with the reuse of water with a view to an alternative for waste and saving water in homes, demonstrating a project to manage water use more effectively and without waste through reuse. water for a single family home. In this context, water reuse or reuse is the process by which water from household use is reused for non-potable purposes.
Lung transplantation
2015
Einstein (São Paulo)
Lung transplantation is a globally accepted treatment for some advanced lung diseases, giving the recipients longer survival and better quality of life. Since the first transplant successfully performed in 1983, more than 40 thousand transplants have been performed worldwide. Of these, about seven hundred were in Brazil. However, survival of the transplant is less than desired, with a high mortality rate related to primary graft dysfunction, infection, and chronic graft dysfunction,

... in the form of bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome. New technologies have been developed to improve the various stages of lung transplant. To increase the supply of lungs, ex vivo lung reconditioning has been used in some countries, including Brazil. For advanced life support in the perioperative period, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and hemodynamic support equipment have been used as a bridge to transplant in critically ill patients on the waiting list, and to keep patients alive until resolution of the primary dysfunction after graft transplant. There are patients requiring lung transplant in Brazil who do not even come to the point of being referred to a transplant center because there are only seven such centers active in the country. It is urgent to create new centers capable of performing lung transplantation to provide patients with some advanced forms of lung disease a chance to live longer and with better quality of life.

Global warming and socioeconomic conditionsComment on "Modeling the impact of global warming on vector-borne infections" by Eduardo Massad, Francisco Antonio Bezerra Coutinho, Luiz Fernandes Lopez and Daniel Rodrigues da Silva
2011
Physics of Life Reviews
Communicated by J. Fontanari The review by Massad et al. dealt with global warming and vector-borne infections [1] , in which they did not only present a mathematical model, but explained step by step all terms that appeared in the equations. The non-autonomous model was applied to malaria and dengue infections, obtaining the time dependent threshold for transmission R(t), which was studied by the sensitivity analysis. The authors have made numerous important contributions in this area. Two

... ures of the model deserve some comments. The model considered a time-delay only in the passage from susceptible to infectious mosquitoes. The extrinsic incubation period depends strongly on temperature [2], as well as the transition time from egg up to adult mosquito [3], while the intrinsic incubation period (negligible compared to long life of humans) apparently does not depend on temperature. Neither the incubation period (humans are lead directly from susceptible to infectious stage) nor the transition time of aquatic phase were considered in the model, but the authors privileged extrinsic incubation period in their model through the time-delay. This choice can be understood as aiming to retrieve the formulae proposed by Macdonald for R 0 [4]. With respect to the seasonal variation, this effect was allowed only to 'mosquitoes production from eggs'. The authors considered a constant fraction per time p s describing the surviving on aquatic phase and becoming adult. The introduction of seasonality in the model is not clearly justified, because this is not related to any entomological parameters, as well as the step function θ seems artificial. Instead of interpreting the forcing parameters c and d as describing the durations of summer and winter seasons, the forcing term should be linked with the temperature dependent transition rate from eggs to adult (redefining p s ). Allowing to the temperature be dependent on time, T (t), the parameters c and d can be fitted from a time-series data [5], e.g., T (t) = c + d sin( 2π 365 t + φ), and the function θ arises naturally through the lower and upper bounds of temperature at which transition from aquatic phase to adult can occur [3] . Therefore, all entomological parameters used by the authors can be set depending on the function T (t) (in some extent they did it in the last model): r M , τ I and μ M , which are, respectively, intrinsic oviposition rate, extrinsic incubation period and mortality rate of mosquitoes.

Breastfeeding-associated hypernatraemic dehydration
2009
Einstein (São Paulo)
Objective: In the last few years there has been an increase in case reports of hypernatraemic dehydration in breastfed newborns. Insufficient intake has an important role in the pathophysiology of this condition. The aim of this study was to evaluate exclusively breastfed neonates admitted for hypernatraemic dehydration. Methods: Retrospective study of breastfed neonates diagnosed with hypernatraemic dehydration, between March 2002 and March 2008, in a level 1 maternity. Rresults: Nineteen

... were identified (0.44% of neonatal intermediate care hospitalizations), 53% of them were male. The annual distribution revealed a higher number of cases in 2008: 26.3% in only three months. Median birth weight was 3,000 g and the median gestational age was 38 weeks. Vaginal delivery was the most frequent form of birth (42%), and 79% of mothers were primiparas. Admissions were made through the emergency department in 68.4%. The main reasons for seeking medical attention were: poor oral intake (32%), weight loss (26%), and jaundice (26%). The median age at admission was four days. Percentage of weight loss: 6.7 to 40%, median was 11%. Dehydration signs were absent in 42% of the patients. Median Na+ values were 152 mEq/l. Jaundice was the most frequent comorbidity found (74%). Intravenous fluids were administered in 89% and acute neurological complications were found in 21%, there were no deaths. Cconclusions: Breastfeeding-associated hypernatraemic dehydration seems to be a consequence of breastfeeding difficulties in inexperienced mothers. Since many cases are paucisymptomatic, there should be a high level of suspicion, especially in those patients with jaundice.
Using an operating microscope to re-treat an inferior premolar with two canals
2014
RGO: Revista Gaúcha de Odontologia
This report aims to present a clinical case of endodontic re-treatment performed on a left inferior premolar with two canals of difficult localization. The importance of anatomical knowledge and the use of an operating microscope, especially in complex reintervention are discussed. An endodontic re-treatment was performed on element 34, which had a prosthetic restoration and vestibular fistula. In clinical examination, it was observed a negative result to the sensitization test and a positive

... sult to vertical percussion test. After all the obturating material was removed, an operating microscope was requested to assess a possible fracture or the presence of another canal. It was noticed the presence of another canal that was treated and obturated as the existing canal. After 12 months, a new radiographic exam was performed, whose result was found asymptomatic and radiographically normal. In complex peculiar anatomy cases, the operating microscope is vital for the localization of extra canal to guarantee treatment success.
No Code Anomaly is an Island
[chapter]
2017
Lecture Notes in Computer Science
A software product line (SPL) is a set of systems that share common and varying features. To provide large-scale reuse, the components of a SPL should be easy to maintain. Therefore, developers have to identify anomalous code structures -i.e., code anomalies -that are detrimental to the SPL maintainability. Otherwise, SPL changes can eventually propagate to seemly-unrelated features and affect various SPL products. Previous work often assume that each code anomaly alone suffices to characterize

... SPL maintenance problems, though each single anomaly may represent only a partial, insignificant, or even inexistent view of the problem. As a result, previous studies have difficulties in characterizing anomalous structures that indicate SPL maintenance problems. In this paper, we study the surrounding context of each anomaly and observe that certain anomalies may be interconnected, thereby forming so-called anomaly agglomerations. We characterize three types of agglomerations in SPL: feature, feature hierarchy, and component agglomeration. Two or more anomalies form an agglomeration when they affect the same SPL structural element, i.e. a feature, a feature hierarchy, or a component. We then investigate to what extent non-agglomerated and agglomerated anomalies represent sources of a specific SPL maintenance problem: instability. We analyze various releases of four featureoriented SPLs. Our findings suggest that a specific type of agglomeration indicates up to 89% of sources of instability, unlike non-agglomerated anomalies.
A Flexible Model for Crosscutting Metadata-Based Frameworks
[chapter]

Lecture Notes in Computer Science
Frameworks aims to provide a reusable functionality and structure to be used in distinct applications. Aspect-oriented frameworks address crosscutting concerns and provide ways to attach itself in the application in a transparent way. However, using aspects the variations in the behavior can only be customized by aspect inheritance, which can increase exponentially the number of aspects and difficult the pointcut management. This paper proposes a flexible model which combines techniques for the

... insertion of crosscutting functionality with the structure of a metadata-based framework. This model allows (a) the maintenance of the class obliviousness, (b) the independence of the crosscutting technology and (c) the framework customization by composition. Additionally, the paper presents SystemGlue, which is a crosscutting framework that implements the proposed concepts. A modularity analysis was performed in an application that uses this framework to evaluate if the objectives were achieved.
